Hello TL!
It has been a while since I've been on here a lot but I have a feeling that this will change soon. In less than a week I will fly to London to start an internship at Twitch and with them I will work in gaming and esports full time for six months.
In the last two years I have been fairly absent from active participation in the community. I stopped casting regularly in 2011, but funnily enough had my largest casting gig with WCG at Gamescom 2012.
Apart from that though, I focused on my studies and normal life. Honestly, I had a lot to learn in life. During the times where I casted loads of Starcraft (2010 - 2011) I was not as socially capable as I would have liked to be (I was a total nerd) and I was very unhappy with my studies. Commentating was escapism for me and at some point I realized that I couldn’t keep doing it without my regular life being sorted. More about that can be read here.
Going to Stuttgart was an amazing decision and it feels like my life only really started there. Found amazing friends, studies are super fun, city life is the shit. With my move there I started getting into self-improvement via seddit (reddit.com/r/seduction). Pick-up is really nice, even though I have not made the progress I would have liked to make in terms of being comfortable cold-approaching people (anyone, not just women) and getting out of my head more. Part of that could be that I’m in (mutual) love with a really awesome, cool and pretty woman so I can’t really complain, haha. The self-improvement part really stuck with me though and I made it my mission to become as good as I can be when it comes to good nutrition, healthy lifestyle and most of all a great mindset and being a great person to be with. My self-confidence has gone from zero to where I would have never imagined it.
I also started developing a decent sense of what I want in life. For the longest time I was quite uncertain about the career I want to pursue. I dabbled in programming, but even though I consider myself talented I never really had fun with it and couldn’t immerse myself in it. It took me a while to realize and accept games as my true and only passion. Ever since then I’ve been really happy on a very basic level though. Legitimizing ‘games’ as a career choice for myself (wherever it may take me) was a huge step for me and my self-perception. Combining this with my increasing interest and ability in leadership and management gave me a clear (albeit not specific) goal: some sort of management position in the gaming/esports industry.
A lot of these developments took place while I lived in Groningen, Netherlands for a semester abroad for the past 5 months (Sep 13 - Jan 14). The time I had there was incredible, really. I made a ridiculous amount of friends; I feel like experienced friendship on a whole new level. I spent so much time with such good people, shared many experiences and philosophies, got to know a lot of good music… Seriously, if you have the opportunity to study a semester or two abroad, go and fucking do it. I have friends everywhere now. Good friends, who seriously expect me to visit them, and they are everywhere. Brazil, Mexico, USA, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Spain, Belgium, Russia, China, Australia, New Zealand… After I finish my bachelors degree in 2015 I plan to travel the world, see a lot of these people and meet a bunch of new people as well. Maybe for a year or so. But that’s another story.
Honestly, in Holland I didn’t study that much () but the stuff I did study was nice. I was enrolled in International Business and had subjects like People Management and Consumer Behavior, as well as Career Development, which essentially was just another ‘write-your-CV-and-your-letter-class’. However, it ultimately gave me the inspiration to just go for it and apply at Twitch. I was a bit apprehensive at first (I’m still soooo afraid of rejection) and thought ‘this is never going to work’ but I just went for it and … well, I got it. Yay!
Starting this whole career endeavor with a really nice internship at Twitch is like a dream come true. I’m flying to London on Saturday evening and I’m gonna crash with a dude (who is my best friend’s best friend - Holland connections yay) for a few nights, until I hopefully find a place*. In one week from posting this I will actually be sitting in the new Twitch office. Can’t even wrap my head around this right now. I’m looking forward to see Meltdown London and London in general and everything haha. I’m sure I’ll need some time to get used to that huge city. It’s gonna be awesome. Awesome work and events and games and shit for 6 months, hell yeah
Much love TL, it’s nice to be here again. Signing out, see you soon. If you wanna follow along, I'm on twitter and instagram.
tl;dr: I’m going to London, life is good.
*If anyone has or knows of a free room in a cool flat share in London, please let me know!

Second time I am recommending this today, which is a bit odd but look up couchsurfing.org. If nothing else you might find someone to put you up for a bit before deciding on a place.
|
So you're the guy that will receive all the angry pm post about twitch lagging ?
Good luck !
|
fix lag fast plz. (scnr)
i wish you will have a great time in london.

Thanks Victor, hope I'll see you soon!
Couchsurfing is awesome, already did it in Groningen and it was super good, thanks for the tip. Luckily I have someone to crash with while I look for places.
I knew the lag thing would come and haunt me. I shall represent the community, go to London on my trusty steed (Ryanair plane) and FIX THE LAG!!!
