Hey folks, recently I've been getting into watching movies. For example: Studio Ghibli movies, Wolf Children, Frozen, and other generally light-hearted movies like this. However, the sources I was using to find out about these movies have run dry, so you are my next resource. Based off of the rest of the post could you please recommend some good movies for me? Thank you.

Just a couple excellent light-hearted movies off the top of my head.

Do you think you could elaborate on "generally light-hearted movies"? I am only familiar with frozen of the list you provided so if I were to give a recommendation I would need a little more elaboration as to what you are looking for. Thanks

Thanks for the recommendations so far. By light-hearted I mean generally non-horror/suspense/etc. It's difficult to describe. It tends to be coming of age, adventure or comedy-drama movies, where the film isn't entirely plot-driven, but instead the focus is shifted to the mood, music, and atmosphere. If you give some of the Studio Ghibli movies a whirl(Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service) it would demonstrate what it means.

Mmhmm, I stumbled across the Movie thread, but it wasn't really what I was looking for until these last few pages. Even then most of the discussion has been about the exact movies I posted above, and 1/2 of the posts are by me aha.

Unfortunately, I've already seen Man on the Moon. All of Jim Carrey's movies are at least entertaining, and most of them are funny as hell, but not exactly ideal for this. Thank you for posting.

I'd say:

coming of age/childhood or younger adult innocence stuff:
the girl who leapt through time (2006)
moonrise kingdom (2012)
ink (2009) (I really like parts of it, but it's pretty weak in some parts)
big (1988)

animated lighthearted:
most pixar/disney/dreamwork films are pretty good, honestly just watch a bunch of them
films by wallace & gromit folks (pirates in an adventure with scientists, chicken run, wallace and gromit short films and the feature length film)
who framed roger rabbit
space jam

some quirky lighthearted atmosphere:
amelie (2001)
pleasantville (1998)
stranger than fiction (2006) (I don't remember much, but I think it is offbeat and fun)
being john malkovich (1999) (maybe not lighthearted but certainly unique)
i'm a cyborg, but that's ok (2006)

some bill murray films are pretty classic lighthearted, though not really any unique atmosphere or anything
groundhog day, ghostbusters, quick change, caddyshack

Summer Wars <-- I really recommend this one if you like miyazaki movies.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time -- this one is fun to watch too

Speedy Scandal -- not an anime, but it does fit your description

Pa bo or "miracle of giving fool" -- also not an anime, a little bit darker, but i still consider this a light watch

Those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head. If more come to mind i'll let you know.

Summer Wars turned out to be not as amazing as I hoped. It's a pretty good movie, and enjoyable to watch, but it's not one of my favourites.

EDIT: Just finished watching 5 Centimeteres Per Second - that was not happy at all! Now I feel bad for all of the characters. It was an awesome movie, but very bitter-sweet.

Woo! Finally finished just about every film in this thread, and most of them were awesome, so thanks! In particular, my favourites were The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, 5 cm Per Second, iNk, Pleasantville and The Incredibles. Being John Malkovich and I'm A Cyborg were extremely weird. BJM was great, but I could only make it about 30-45 minutes into the Cyborg one. When she started cutting her wrist it kinda freaked me out, and it kept freaking me out until I stopped watching.

So thank you in particular, N.geNuity, for your recommendations. Most of them were my favourites.
