BLOG stands for Web Log right? NO! It stands for Bowling Log. I just joined a league, and I didn't bowl much through college so I think I'll track my progress. If I can bring my average up to 180s then I'll be where I left off in High School. I'll try to even give a game by game analysis as best as I can remember.
Scores for 9/09/07: 134, 196, 127
Introduction: Well I haven't bowled much lately so I wasn't expecting consistency. The lanes were well oiled which was good, but not exactly what I'm used to. I was adjusting my starting location and throwing parameters all day.
Game 1: I barely had anything figured out by the time our 5 minutes of practice was up. I got off to a piss-poor start where I couldn't even get my ball to hit the correct region of the pocket. By picking up a reasonable percentage of spares, I maintained a score that wouldn't hurt my team too badly.
Game 2: There was a lot of luck here. Even though I opened with an open, from the second frame to the seventh or eight I had a nice chain of strikes and 9-spares. IIRC it started 37 X X X 9/ X 9/ 9/ or something like that. I ended up with another open somewhere towards the end of the game, and thus didn't break 200. It's hard to tell if I should have kept throwing the ball the way I was, or if I was indeed getting very lucky and was correct in my decision to keep adjusting my throw to try and get a more attractive and precise hook.
Game 3: I kept getting owned by the 10 pin. I think for the day I was 2 for 6. Normally I'm more like 80-90% because I have a fairly consistent form with a 15-16 pound house ball (I don't use my normal ball because it hooks too much). The opens were killing me early, and then to make matters worse I had 4 splits in 5 frames. You know how a turkey is three strikes in a row? We need a new term for 3 splits in a row! Most of them were makable, save the 7-10 (the 4-7-10 was a bit intimidating also).
Conclusion: I need to try to find a strikeball that I can throw consistently without needing much luck. My consecutive strike record was in 12th grade when I opened a practice game with a 7 bagger. I'm hoping to at least match that record this season. Feel free to ask questions if something I said didn't make sense or if you aren't up on some terminology but are interested.

Nice. In fact, I bowl when I get the chance, but only once a week (if that). I actually use a custom-made ball that weights 16 lbs and, I think, is supposed to hook a lot. My dad taught me the correct form and everything, but for some reason, I just can't make it work. The guys I know, people I bowl with can surpass 200 and at least get decent results, but I can't. I THINK I found a form that works for me, though so that's good. My average is, I think, 120. Bowling's such a fun sport, but my friends are so gay (don't go bowling with me), and I don't want to go by myself since I'm so imagine-conscious...
Anyway, I'd be glad to talk more if you want to continue about bowling. I want to get at least semi-serious meaning I'd be interested in joining leagues and stuff, but it doesn't seem like that'll happen...
Btw, my high was a 195. I cried red tears that night.

Btw, my high was a 195. I cried red tears that night. What do you mean by a custom made ball? Do you just mean you went to a pro shop and they fitted you for a decent model? Or did you do some kind of special ordering? Does the ball have fingertips? If not, is it plastic? My ball is a 16 lb Battle Zone Missile with fingertips.
If you can't make it hook then I guess you aren't using correct form even if you know what it is. The first time you get nearly 200 is usually a very happy occasion. My personal high is 236 (which I've gotten about 3-4 times, some kind of a strange ceiling for me).

Getting 180 honestly isn't that hard if you consistently get lucky with hitting the pocket. I'd say you can't get 200+ on just luck, though.

I bowled a few weeks ago and I had to stop after 2-3 games because I was tearing the skin on my fourth finger.(45 degrees inside the knuckle). By the next week it had calloused a bit and now my finger can stand up to the strain of 16 pounds with fingertips and ridiculous form once again.

Breaking 100 is a momentous occasion for me and friends when we bowl, haha.

Yup, got my fingers fitted at a pro shop at some bowling allley. All I know that its name is fireball -_-
EDIT: Oh, it hooks alright. It just hooks either too much or too little; I can NEVER hit the pocket. I do think I found out why, however. I never used the full force of the swing (the arc motion).

I never used the full force of the swing (the arc motion). You amount of force you use, alone, shouldn't be a problem so long as it isn't extremely weak or way too fast. Whatever speed you want is fine, you just need to adjust where you start your approach. The faster you throw it, the more you start towards the right. If you throw it slower, you need to start more to the left so the ball has more opportunity to hook before it gets to the pins. Hitting the pocket is just a matter of practice, and adjusting your approach so that the ball ends up where you want it.

Paging [GiTM]-Ace Every week at clan wars he would tell me about him bowling the day before. I think he gave it up (because he realized he sucked?)

Bowling is fun from time to time, I can't see how anyone could do this professionally though.
I'd think it'd get boring over time? Doesn't seem to be much finesse to it...

Well, a complete newbie can't even follow a high-level starcraft game, but you can follow the pba pretty easily I think.
