I just "finished" broken sword 5.
It was awesome to see it in steam and was really happy to play it. Bought it and then finished it. The game as NO ENDING.
So i look up on the internet and i read on the steam page that this is just HALF the game. The rest will be released in first semester of 2014 (for free though).
What kind of company realease HALF a game. (yeah christmas release).
I know it's written on the steam page. But when you go to see Harry potter 7 PART 1, you get a full movie. Not a half movie of 40minutes.
What if the business collapse before the release ? I would have bought half a game.
How a company could collapse in 3month after the release of a game you would ask ? Look at the company that made Flashback; It was out in september/ocotber. And they collapsed a few weeks from now on.
Ranting on a bad game is one thing but ranting on HALF a game. i would never had thought it would happen.

So what, you don't know how to read ?
|
Well hopefully for you no one else read the description either and it will sell well enough that they can make the second half Probably they ran out of time / resources and were like 'well lets not make what we've done so far a total loss' and tossed out what they had.
With a title like Broken Sword tho, is the ending really going to be that interesting? Without looking anything up at all I am imagining some generic JRPG lol. As long as the first half of the game ends with an interesting boss fight, that's probably fine.
Was it too short? What did you pay for it? If you had fun playing it, I would think that's a good purchase considering how many boring games that aren't fun get released.
I think I can only grant you that they should have put 'part 1' or something in the title.

Hi mister stove ! :p
I don't think you played a Broken sword title if you are talking about boss fights ^^ That's a point and click. You don't have fun playing a point and click game that has NO ending
|
They still make point and click adventures? Was this funded on kickstarter or something lol? Well, I concede the point that the game should have had an ending haha.

Yes it's kickstarted. It seems they have the money to finish it. But they released it unfinished i feel for christmas.
Thing is it's not a "anticipated access" it's sold as a full game. But with in description that it is part 1 and part 2 a free update...
|
You seems to rant about the company because they sell it in two parts, while some are doing stupids fundraiser, selling beta, selling game with a lots of already planned DLC ( I even heard of buying DLC before the game is out ...), so no, no others good insight, sir.

You've apparently never watched Lord of the Rings.

Screen suddenly goes black, with no ending (until the end of the final book/ movie).

you get to be excited twice for the game, whereas in games like spacemarine 40k for example the story "ended" while introducimg new characters and your guy is imprisoned falsely. over a year later there, i still have no idea what happens, i think there was some dlc , but those fuckers brought out 48 crappy 80 cent - 3,20 skin dlcs where i couldnt bother looking through them all on steam
now to be honest, first semester 2014 isnt too far away, and i like the "half a game because we need more time or no game because no money left"approach better than dlc,

I don't know anything about the game or the publisher but it's $20 on steam, and not $50-60 like most full games. So you paid half the price for half the game I guess? And then the second half becomes free? Doesn't sound worth complaining about in my honest opinion.

Cool, even less reason to complain.
Some full games are still only 5-8 hours. Some half games are 8+ hours; I dunno about the game in question, but as long as it wasn't a 2 hour stint then I'm sure you still got your money's worth.
Doesn't seem much different than a mid-season finale of a TV series. Half a season?? Don't get to find out what happens?? Blasphemy!
What's even more confusing is that as the OP noted, it clearly said it is half the game in the page. I mean you knew exactly what to expect, how can you be upset? If it upsets you then just wait for the other half to come out then buy it and pretend it was a single release the whole time. Really now, it's not a big deal at all.

This is a bit off-topic, but how does BS5 compare to BS4, because BS4 was complete shit (I never even finished it I hated it so much)

Well the game is not bad. It is just unfinished. It's playing like a BS 1 or 2. Really old school. I finished it in 3 or 4 hours.

You know exactly what to expect ? Have you ever see half a game released ? No. Do you read EVERY line on each steam game that you buy ? Because i sure as hell didn't when i bought it.
It's not Half a season. You are comparing to something that is not comparable. It would be Half an episode.
The season is : "Broken sword". You have 5 épisodes. Imagine it as a serie. It's 4 full episode and 5th is.. half the time with half the content.
Finished it in 3hours. And that's not the point.

You don't know the game so maybe that's why you don't get it.

I watched all 3. So in the first one Boromir dies than you see the hobbit escaped. Imagine that the movie would have end when they entered the elves places. With no explanation. Hey ! Hi Galadriel ! Credits ! I think that's a good comparison

No, the series is Broken Sword, the season is Broken Sword 5. You finished half of that season 5, hence half a season, mid-season finale. I don't see how it's not comparable.

I didn't know I wasn't permitted to voice my opinion if I hadn't played the game, but that sounds like a silly thing to say considering it doesn't make anything I said less true. Maybe you should have had a footer note at the bottom asking us to not even bother commenting if we haven't played it.
The only way I could understand someone being upset with this is if they had charged you $50-60 for the game, or if they were going to change you another $20-30 for the remainder of the game. Right now it's just a first world problem at it's best.
I'm not saying it isn't silly, but it's not worth ranting and raving about in my opinion.

Why are you so aggressive ? Do i sound aggressive to you ? Sorry if that's the case because that's not how i would want to voice it.
I should not rant because i got half a game.

I wouldn't classify anything you nor I said in this thread as aggressive, not sure how you got that vibe. When I think aggressive I think caps/insults/cursing/barrage of questions. I'm just arguing my point.
I'm sure you made this post expecting other people's thoughts on the matter and I'm just giving my 2 cents. You think it's stupid/annoying/whatever that someone has released a game in 2 parts and I think it is completely acceptable and not a big deal. It's all subjective, no one said we have to agree on anything.

So this is not aggressive ?
I see your point. I don't say you are wrong. I just don't understand how you feel it's okay to release half a game. That has never happened before. It's not a mid season thing. But to see that you would have to play the game. You can't know for sure without playing it is what i was saying. You can't commentate the content of a game if you haven't played it. No ? Maybe i'm wrong though.
But i think we have to much opposite opinion to try to explain this. I don't understand your point, you don't understand mine. I think it's going to circle for eternity
