Preface
And so it begins. Today is the first of december 2013 as far as you are concerned at least!
Next year we will have elections for the European Parliament somewhere between may 22 and may 25 in most countries, even though many countries still lack a specific date. I started early to avoid getting all informations in the campaign. So why not share the information I dig up? The end-result of this should be a decently informative opening post in a thread about the EU-elections 2014.
Since I know that EU is a subject most people feel are far removed from their everyday life, it would be the easiest thing to just forget about and let the election campaigns decide what to vote for if voting is worth it at all! Well, as much as I dislike the structure of EU, the low contact with everyday people and especially their self-agrandising, shameless and uninformative self-promotion, it is an important part of every europeans life, whether we like it or not. Lets face it: I am skeptical about Eus construct, not as much its underlying purpose. Nobody could possibly be better at relaying information about the European Union (except maybe a confused american looking for the latest on Europa Universalis V )!
Since we are late in the year 2013, why not make an advent calendar out of it? Yeah. What could possibly go wrong? So in 23 more posts I will walk you through some of the dusty basics about EU and hopefully spice it up with some stories and a slight sprinkle of personal notes. All of it slightly angled to make it more readable and more balanced than the slightly selective official history, but with enough detailed objective information to blow the current state of the EU-campaign out of the water in that department!
