So after my first attempt that I made two summers ago with a SC2 skin, I attempted last summer to make a Dota 2 skin. Much to my dismay, not only is valve much less organized with its art than Blizzard, but they also had a lot less in DDS files than I had hoped.
You can see my Sc2 one here:

You can download it here.
Quick note: It is not very user friendly to use if you have never used rainmeter before.
Fast forward a year later and here I am today with all the images I needed from valve and my brand new Dota 2 rainmeter skin!

I'm much happier with this one, and decided to go with a much more minimalist approach, using only the top bar from the Dota 2 menu, and the bottom right corner of the in game bottom bar.
The top bar has 4 custom buttons for anything you desire. There are also two other buttons for utorrent and music. They both create drop downs, one that works to control the media player, and one that tracks your torrents.
Here is an image with the drop downs:

The bottom bar has 3 custom buttons that you can do as you wish with. I personally use the courier delivery button for email, the boots as eclipse and the flying courier as Skype (A program I hope I can convince my friends to stop using).
The settings button in the top left can be used to customize said buttons and comes up with a menu that you can used to change not only the paths of each of these buttons, but also the names of the four custom ones on the top bar.
Here is an image of what it looks like in use:

Finally there is the power button in the top right which is used to turn off your computer (What else would it do -_-). Don't worry it uses a confirmation box to ensure you don't accidentally click it and shut down your computer. The confirmation box is exactly like the one given when you quit Dota 2.
If anyone is interested in using this, and I hope you do, it is available to download below:
Requirements:
rainmeter 3.0 installed Aero enabled
With Wallpaper
Without Wallpaper
This is just my first release of it, so if anyone decides to use it I would love to get feedback, or if anyone encounters any bugs with it please feel free to report it here so I can fix it. I'm currently in the process of trying to make a file viewer to use when editing paths and hope to be finished that before the end of the summer.
Also if anyone has any other games they would like to suggest for my next rainmeter skin attempt let me know.
Thanks a lot for reading and I hope you enjoy!

T-this is beautiful D:
It definitely does not look user friendly, but damn it is awesome anyway. Good job sir.

It is more so than my sc2 one was (had no way to edit without going into the actually .ini files).
I'm hoping the eventual file viewer will make it much easier to edit and use.

I'll be keeping an eye on this then. Playing with rainmeter is something I used to enjoy a lot (even though I barely knew how to use it at all... and I still am very bad at it.) and this sort of lit the spark again. I might install the program once I get back from work today :3

thats amazing. Where can i download it? I dont see the link anywhere
|
Links are at the bottom of the blog (version with wall paper or without). Also rainmeter is available at the link that says rainmeter 3.0
|
the link takes me to "submit new deviation"
|
Wups! My apologies just fixed the links.
|
I'm awful with rainmeter so it might just be me, but im not sure how to install it. From my understanding, since its in a .rmskin format I should be able to install it off the bat, but when i try it says invalid package: the skin packager tool must be used, and from there I get lost
|
O shoot, that's my fault, give me like 2 minutes and i'll have a fixed version up.
|
OK it should work now, try the new file.
|
Works now! Ill mess around with it for a while and tell you if I find anything wrong
I'm only getting the top bar and the icons are all moved over to the right a little such that it looks like http://i.imgur.com/vEIn1W9.jpg Im currently in china so imgur only works for a little bit before it gets shut down and i dont know if that uploaded correctly My resolution is 1366x768. The drop down boxes are running off of my screen such that I can't select anything after music (which is completely hidden by the bar) so it seems like a resolution problem. I also can't switch the icons because the area where I choose the directory for the file is off the screen. Everything is selected by default but all that's showing up is the top bar
I'm gonna sleep now but ill be back tomorrow
|
Ya the resolution would be the problem. Its currently build for 1920x1080 resolution. I'm going to have to go through and readjust all the values to get it to adjust to other resolutions, which should be in my next release.
I'd say aim for sometime next week and i'll have it updated to auto fix to resolutions.
|
ok sure thing, ill wait for that then
|
dude. can you fix the resolution? mine either.its 1366x 768 tnx
