So you've got a wedding coming up, and you need to pick your best man. You have two people you consider very close with, and you need to pick one of the two.
1. Your little brother. This is the guy you've lived with in the same room for 18 years with. He's younger than you by 3 years, so you rarely go to him for advice. On the contrary, you've watched him grow, guided him through life, and gave him all the best advice you have as an older and more experienced brother. Because of this, he respects you greatly and considers you the closest person to him. He would take a bullet for you without hesitation. You consider your brother, your soon-to-be wife, your mom, and your dad to be the closest people to you. If there was an accident and you had to choose someone to save, it would be an impossible choice between the four of them.
2. Your best friend. This is the guy you've known since kindergarten. You grew up together, hung out with the same group of friends, talked about girls with, went to the same parties with, etc. You guys "separated" in college, but still kept in contact during breaks and whatnot. You always went to him for advice and vice versa. You would both have each others' backs through almost anything. You would say you'd take a bullet for him, but you'd hesitate.
Basically you feel you are closer to your brother, and if there was an accident where you could only save your brother or your friend, it would be your brother for sure. But you did more growing up stuff with your friend. Who would you choose to be your best man? Will it be an easy choice for you, either way? I am very curious about your answers, and more importantly, your reasoning.

Best friend, because you had a choice of picking him as your friend. Growing up with your brother makes you close, but as you grow up your lifes will probably drift apart. I'd pick my best friend any day.

I picked my older brother.

I picked my Brother, last year.

I don't have a brother, picked my best friend. Would have picked my best friend anyway since it seems to me more effectful to give the honor to a friend rather than your brother since you probably have a lot of friends and you give the honor to one of them in specific... with a brother, it somehow feels a bit too natural.

Easily brother. Best friend(s) are ushers.
|
My best buddy for trust-related issues. My friends are great people, but you don't choose family
|
my older brother.
simply because he is my best friend as well without a doubt. we are just thinking alike, we share interests and we lived more than half of our lifes together. no friend or girlfriend relationship could ever change anything about him being the most important to me

Choose both. I've been chosen as a best man twice, and both times the groom and bride had/will have two guys each.
|
Getting married in may, picked my younger brother. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter and your friends can still leave you but family is forever. GL, there is no wrong choice imo.

If anything, you're more likely to lose touch with a friend than a family member.
I'm going to pick my younger brother too, and it's interesting that nearly every comment here approves of the family bond over the friend bond, even though the poll is in favor of the opposite.

I'd say it depends a lot on the culture behind the religion. Jewish, Islamic, and other more "ethnic" marriages (at least for the states) differ heavily from the traditional Christian marriage.

My older brother picked me as his best man, and I would name him as my best man for my wedding in a heartbeat. Given that we're Chinese and not Christian, it could just be cultural preferences, but I do feel that I am far closer to him than all of my friends.

Go with family.

Pick me!
[edit] Honestly I didn't know you could pick family as your "best man". I always thought it was traditional for it to be out of family.

Little brother, 100%.
Edit: this is fucked up though: "If there was an accident and you had to choose someone to save, it would be an impossible choice between the four of them."
Shouldn't be a wedding then. Hell, life aint all black and white but love's supposed to pump your system full of enough chemicals to make that choice easy. I'd take a bullet for either but would put a bullet through all if it meant saving my wife (or kid(s)). Sacrificing your life is easy, sacrificing your humanity is hard but that's the question you should ask yourself. Would you? For her?
