Yo what's up fellow TL'ers,
So to get the hate out of the way this is not a road to pro or whatever kind of blog! i'll explain what this is about but i'm gonna warn you, this is a bit of an emotional rollercoaster to me so some paragraphs might be a bit long.
Some of you guys already know me, but most of you don't, so let me introduce myself: I'm Tech and i'm a SC2Holic. ( crowd says "Hi Tech" ) and i am here today to talk about what drives me and why this blog is important to me and how it affects my view of myself not only in the game but outside of it as well.
So why am i writing this? I would like to share my thought process and my story with you guys so that either you get a good laugh reading it, like the way i aproach whatever i face but i think most of all to inspire others to pursue ideas and ambitions.
So now the story of my SC2 life, and boy it's one to remember on my part, in a nutshell. I've started playing SC2 at a time where many others started as well, which is when SC2: WoL and this is where my rollercoaster begins. At first SC2 started out to just a fun to play game, but soon grew to be much much more for me. The game became a passion and started to tickle my competative senses, which in order made me spend more and more time to improve my play and lift it to the highest level reachable for me.
I'll spare you the details of my first season, but in a nutshell i practised, i watched replays/vods, joined a amateur clan to do clanwars, and made my way into masters fairly quickly. I started to branch out with streaming and coaching which started to give me a solid base of people who liked the way i played and coached so i was actually starting to even think about doing this on a more serious basis and even cutting down hours at work to improve more, and coach more.
And then shit hit the fan. I lost my job due to the economical crisis here in the Netherlands, and i had to take up a job that i REALLY didn't like and made me work ungodly hours all across the week ( like nightshift into afternoon shift into morning shift in the same week ). This resulting in me being exhausted most of the time where i really wanted to play and coach.
So does this actually prevent me from doing what i love to do? The answer is no, but my life would be just fine and dandy if this is where it stops. No, this is just the beginning of the end ( at least that's how it feels for me )
After about 3 months i found a new job which would allow me to pick up my SC2 addiction again. All went well first few weeks ( in which i was in training etc ) but then something drastic happened. I went to the doctor because of few of my coleagues said i was looking pale. I went to the docctor and when they did some tests and asked some questions i got some bad news.
They tested my blood, in which they found that my bloodpallets where extremely low and my HB value was to low to technically even stand up. i was rushed to the ER where some more tests were performed, and before i knew it i was hooked up to all the intensive care equipment and my family was called to come in.
3 days of intensive care, then 3 weeks of daily intensive treatment got me back on my feet, followed with 3 months of heavy drugs to keep me from getting back whatever i had ( which they still don't know exactly ), i want to get back into the saddle to subdue myself into my passion again, playing and coaching SC2.
I will post in this blog every other day to talk about what and how i was doing ingame, or outside of the game.

Hey Tech, as a guy who was that lucky to be coached by you, I must say I had a great time talking with you, watching your streams and imrpoving a ton. Then you suddenly stopped all the sc2 action and I was pretty sad about that and didnt know what happened. Thanks to this blog I now know how it was. I really hope you will get better soon and start the sc2 stuff as soon as possible and with the same joy as before. Good luck and I am looking forward to read another part of this blog. Keep it up! PS: I am really curious why now, when starting playing starcraft again, are you massing those footmen and other arcades that much? Do you just enjoy it and don't feel like playing standard games yet?
|
That's a fair point, and i'm happy to answer to your question.
When i was on the meds my energy level and concentration was rock bottom. When i would work 2 hours i would be completely drained of energy and my mental state really didn't allow to play intensive games. So i played alot of arcade games that really didn't put a strain on my energy level.
I started to play 1v1's again and i will post about them tomorrow when i have done a reasonable amount again.

Holy shit man, I hope you recover. Good luck to you from a fellow SC2 addict and TL'er <3

Hello hello!
Wow two crazy days of SC2 but HELL that was fun. So what have i been up to? stomping ladder noobs like a baws hehe.
I started playing a few games yesterday with the thought process of just getting my hands to warm up and get my muscle memory back. i was not expecting alot from it, altho i did expect to be placed into diamond.
and it felt really good to be back into the 1v1 "scene". I was actually way calmer then i was half a year ago. I see my mistakes more clearly and am actually thinking about my points to improve instead of just saying it.
So today i decided to pick up streaming again, and stream a 2 hour ladder session. On top of that i want to start up on an idea i had a while back which is a "how to improve" series. I've learned alot on my own, but having the right tools and the right mindset ould have helped me improve faster and more effective.
that said i wanted to talk a little about the 2 hour ladder session before explaining my idea. I started today, and yes i was placed into diamond yesterday at the end of the day. So my focus was on getting used to my new hotkey setup and just getting my muscle memory back. This came rather quickly to my suprise. After 1-2 games i was already back into controlling my army/obs/phoenix while keeping up my macro cycles.
i was happily gaming and streaming, having fun singing along with some of my songs i have in my playlist when something big hit me.
+ Show Spoiler +
I can tell you 1 thing, I squeeled like a little baby! Wow i didn't nkow/realize that i was doing that well so soon again. By no means is this the level where i wanted to be, but it 's weird to only play a total of 30 games and already being close to your previous level again.
So i brought up my notepad, and started working on my how to improve series. What i really want to show everyone is not just a general how to improve but also how much time certain things take. So for today i wanted to start by showing how you develop a gameplan, and how much work it is to get one down on paper so you can start practising it. i only prepared the basic steps and showed on stream from finding replays till fully written down gameplan.
I developed a gameplan that suits my style in about 45 minutes which i am uploading to youtube as we speak. This is the link to the youtube video. http://www.youtube.com/edit?ns=1&feature=vm&video_id=DLWyn87phUU
That's it for today,

wow congratz for getting to the level you were before so damn quickly! I was watching your stream and I can deffinitely say that your positive mindset made the stream much better, also it helps you imrpove more quickly and I am working on not-raging too, but sometimes I just can't help myself when a meching player sieges and my army evaporate... anyways, thats another story, I hope you will keep streaming as much as possible and I am looking forward to all those "how to improve" shenanigans :D cya!

Happy easter to anyone who reads this
Easter is ofcourse a time that you spend with family so that's what i did. I did play about 30 games over the course of the whole weekend but that was no where near the amount i played last week. It was also good that i didn't play that many games because i was getting tired quickly last few days.
So i just played a few games here and there and also played with a few former teammates just to see how i matched up against them right now. i had some fun games and learned that i still have a decent amount to learn before getting back on my old level of play.
I secretly put down a goal for myself before i started to ladder again, which was to get masters on all three main servers ( AM/EU/KR ). I still have yet to play a single game on KR and i really don't know what the lag would be, but i'm really looking forward to it.
Hoping to get onto KR server either later tonight or tomorrow after work, we'll see

Hi guys, here another update from me
i've played some games offstream and also today i streamed like 2 hours worth of games. after the first 3 days of gaming i realised that i just cannot do game after game after game over an extended period of time, so i decided on 2 hour blocks of gaming or gaming+streaming. After this block i quit for that day and maybe watch some streams from other people to get inspiration and to find solutions to my weaknesses. I also make sure i do get somee relaxtation is for example arcade games or stuff like that.
I've tried to play a few games on KR but on the first game it was really apparent that the lag from EU to kr is too much to handle. I was getting half a second delay on all my actions and i was even glad i won the first game as is. so i switched servers right after.
After a few teamgames with FXOFuture i started streaming and did 11 games in that 2 hour block. and to my suprise i went 8 wins and 3 losses. i'm starting to identify my weak points in my play and will practise on these specifics when i start reaching my ceiling with the way i play right now. I figure till i am at 50/50 win/loss i should not worry too much about the gamestyles. I did identify that my PvT early game, early midgame is troublesom, PvZ midgame if they open up swarm hosts and PvP lategame.
i was really happy today that i got 5 viewers, because i really apreciate support from the community to get better and provide a fun stream. Today i did decide to not talk during streaming because my girlfriend was watchinga movie and we are in the same room, unfortunatly i don't have a seperate space to setup my computer since we are only in a normal appartment. When i stream again during the day i'll keep the commentary going.
All in all very satisfied with my results and happy with my decisions on how to not "overwork" myself.

Good times come, good times go
For the first time in 3 days i'm feeling a bit better again so my last few days were not productive at all. I had to take care of alot of stuff for my new education plan that i have and that also cut into alot of my time to play. But some things are just more important then playing a game of starcraft.
I have new appointments with the hospital to do some more tests to determine if i need new medications or that i would need more then that in order to get back to 100% again.
Ofcourse while i was not able to play, i did watch some streams and watched the state of the game episode about imbalances in the game, and what i picked up mostly from that episode is the new metagame that is arising in both PvZ and PvT so i will further investigate that ( and hope to get some replays to learn it ) coming week when i'm feeling better again.
I did sign up to that new coaching site to get that going again, but so far my confidence in that site is fairly low, but we'll see what is gonna happen. I would really like to pick up coaching again because that is what i like to do within SC2.

So what have i've been up to since my last blog?
MAPMAKING!
Only playing the game seems not the way for me to keep having lots and lots of fun.
So i've opened up the mapmaking tool and just started building, and i've posted a new blog for that map just for people that like to test it out. For those that are interested in it go check out http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?id=406926 and leave a reply if you tested it out.
i'll start playing some games again tomorrow, since i won't have any docters appointments or any other responsebilities to attend to.

The hard part after a while is to actually keep my game count up when i find so much other fun stuff to do, wether it be inside SC2 or outside SC2.
I have been playing games and trying to freshen up my PvT and my PvZ builds and they are suprisingly effetive. And guess what, i watched some of the GSTL and what do i see? The exact same PvZ build that i came up with :<
Ofcourse i cried a little inside that i wasn't the only one to come up with the new mid game play in PvZ. The idea is that instead of the old WOL type robo twilight style that most people used at the end of WOL, you get a robo and stargate at the same time. This will allow for a more flexible response to whatever the zerg can throw at you. I've been figuring out the kinks in the build, and the correct responses since swarm hosts still kill me if they mass them together with queens. But that's something i will figure out sooner or later.
I want to expand my streaming beyond just SC2, that's why i am going to do a retro gaming night this friday! I'm currently looking for a private website because there are plenty of nerds that taken all the names that i would use, and most of the twitch.tv channels that are taken are not even used QQ so don't know yet what i'm gonna do with that

Thank you alot Joedaddy
Yesterday i went all out and streamed for a total of 10 hours ( :O ). not all SC2 but also my first retro gaming night. I really enjoyed playing "The secret of Monkey Island' and my viewers had a good time as well. I've noticed for myself that i could just relay, have fun and just let it all go ( figure of speech ofcourse xD )
In my SC2 ladder games i've noticed that i was messing around too much altho it seems people like to see me losing horribly with builds that i've never done before so i guess that's ok lol. i'm just not good enough to randomly do stuff and fix it if it's a really really bad choice. but besides that i played rather ok. I'm currently also looking into establishing a proper overall name for my stream so that it's not all locked into SC2, so i came up with the name Tech Gaming TV.
So i also set two nights as permanent streaming nights which would be wednesday and friday. Wednesday would be my mapmaking night and friday my retro gaming night.
If you have suggestions on what game i should play next in my retro gaming night, tweet them at me or leave them here in this blog ( twitter.com/techstarcraft2 )
cya laters!

Been a few days since i posted so wanted to let you guys know i'm doing good. Got some new meds for this weird sneezing i keep getting and so far they seem towork quite well. Finally sleeping ok again so that means more energy leftover during the day
been doing all kinds of small chores around the house that were left alone for quite some time and laddered some more today. My goal was to stay in top 25 in my division which is not the highest division out there, but top 25 starts at 1100 so it's also not that bad either. i was happily gaming and was seriously laid back when i started noticing i was kicking butt versus 1200-1300 players so i was really glad i was making the progress that i wanted to.
So i got my new stream channel/twitter and youtube set up and i'm liking it. Currently working on the youtube the most since i want to get the playlists nicely seperated instead of having everything just on 1 big clutter fest. so my new links as of 24-4 are:
twitter.com/techGTV Twitch.tv/techGTV youtube.com/techGTV
If you like my current stream please go follow my new one to see when i go live tomorrow night will be my second retro gaming night and i haven't quite decided yet which game i want to play.
I'm thinking to do like maybe tomb raider ( one of the early ones ofcourse ) or some other FPS game like wolfenstein 3D so if you have suggestions tweet them at me so when i wake up in the morning i know what the public wants to see
so cya guys tomorrow at retro night and have fun playing da games!

sup sup!
so i was pretty sick over the weekend and played maybe 4 games, which i all lost. So i was pretty bummed out by that but today i started to feel better again and streamed a bit. It was a bit of a weird session for me since i did about 10 games, and 1 was a PvZ and the rest was PvT. I took a nosedive in my first 3 games and got absolutely slaughtered because i took bad engagements. The other games i actually all won, so i was feeling pretty good about myself in that regard.
I want to get more engaged into coaching again so i decided to give away 10 hours of free coaching.
Send me a PM on TL or go to nerdupgrades.com and find me as a coach. The first 10 people will get an hour of free coaching from me
