Dear Blizzard Entertainment,
it is not within my intentions to ciriticize you or any of your products. In my time volunteering at a kindergarten I notice that beeing nice and calm is the best way to encourage people to do better.
Thats why I always try to stay positive and one of my basic rules is: "Before you criticise someone, first try to make it better yourself." And here I am offering myself to make it better.
I am talking about your story-writing department. I could write the story and script for your next starcraft product. You wouldn't even have to pay for it. Writing a story based on this great franchise would be an honor for me. I am not kidding.
I even have some experience in writing. I wrote an article for the local newspaper once and I can do limmerics:
There once was a ghost with a gun who decided to fight not to run alot of zergs came your story was lame I cant believe my money is gone
Sincerely yours,
Jan

I just bought it, but I haven't played it, yet. It can't be THAT bad...

wait until you get at the "Just like a bike" part.

5/5 would read again. I only saw the cinematics but I must say + Show Spoiler +the "point blank shot" one is fucking genious. I can't wait for their warcraft movie now. That being said, video games writing is very very rarely good in my opinion, and even if let's say brood war's was better, it was by no mean good.
|
Lmao... I don't know why but that limerick just put me into giggle fits hehehehe A+

Your opinion will be your own. (And is a blog really needed? We have a thread just for the story...)
Personally, I enjoyed it, and I honestly don't get the mass amount of hate. Sure I also enjoyed the SC1 storyline, however that being said I also didn't think the HOTS storyline was bad... Not at all.
"I cant believe my money is gone" <- If you're this concerned with your $40 USD or whatever you paid for it. Watch a stream online or a youtube video about it... Instead of buying it in day 1 then complaining about how you lost money because you took a gamble on the story.
I don't get people.

Ok, to be honest, the story is not THAT bad and I still like Blizzard. But there were some moments in the story were I had the urge comment. I posted this letter on the Blizzard facebook page and the ppl there took it the way it was intended, - as a fun letter.
Edit: I made a blog because this is meant to be the start of a series called "friendly letters". Also the reason for a blog is, that I didnt want to have a serious discussion about it. People should enjoy the read, thats it.

The story for vanilla SC1 was pretty damn good, though it was a while (read: roughly 5 or 6 years) since I played through the campaign, so it's possible that I'm idealizing or glamorizing (not sure of the correct term in English) the story a bit. Story in BW was pretty crap though, and I played through that campaign a bit more recently. WoL didn't deliver on the story either, but at least there were some cool cut-scenes. Assuming that the HotS storyline is of similar quality as the one in WoL, I'd say that esperanto might as well be allowed to write the story for LotV

Honestly the hots script looks good to me , you should of seen the script of the new Tomb raider.
|
haven't played HotS or watched any cinematics other than the intro
but I am curious about the leaked ending cinematic a while ago
can anyone verify this because I assume it is true
+ Show Spoiler +does Kerrigan kill Mengsk and get her revenge
the WoL was bad. I am not suprised the HotS story is also bad.

prediction, future Legacy of the Void storyline reviews:
"the only void that exists in this story, is the one between the writer's ears"
"this game is well named, the storyline will leave a 'void' in the hearts of gamers for ages to come"
"my recommendation: a-"void" this game."
|
Seriously the whole romance thing was painfully pathetic (in the true meaning of that word). The hints of it were annoying in WoL, but it really took off in HotS.
Other than that, I honestly don't mind the overall plot much. It's really hard to screw up a sci-fi spectacle plot, it's still going to be fun no matter how silly or dumb or whatever. One way you can screw it up is with writing and character development, and boy have they done that.
|
It was the same song and dance as the wings of liberty campaign: great gameplay/a lot of fun, but an atrocious plot that seems bent on retconning the old story out of existance.
My initial reaction was one of disgust, but I've gotten over it; at least the campaign was fun -- what I will really be staying for in the end is the multi-player, as Wings and Hots have soured my taste for the plotline.
|
I will agree a lot of the dialogue is so cheesy I have to mute it, lol. And I'm fairly tolerant of bad dialogue. Surprisingly Kerrigan sounds better in the beginning than in the end...
+ Show Spoiler +The conversation between Matt Horner and Mira Han was quite entertaining. Two voice actors that actually know what they're doing.

I actually enjoyed the campaign. I realize that a lot of games nowadays will never be up to the old standards of games before huge commercialization, so I just take them for what they are and enjoy them. There were some parts with bad writing, and overall it felt like it wasn't the huge story continuation I was expecting compared to how much work/hype went into just the campaign alone.
I'd say my major problem I have with the campaign is it is much too easy, and the extra achievements per level have stepped down in difficulty as well, no longer requiring a higher difficulty to beat. In comparison I found WoL on hard more difficult than HotS on brutal.

I'm going to link people back to this post in the future when the prophecy is fulfilled.

Warning, LotV spoiler ahead
I bet they are going with the hollywood cliche of unite to beat the new evil bullshit.
They will completely fuck the war between races and make zerg, terran and protoss get under the same banner in order to defeat the xel'naga or whatever.
Then at some point Zeratul will sacrifice himself to save either Jim or Kerrigan, after they developed some other toss character to take his place. Eventually Kerrigan will "sacrifice herself" to save Jim. But actually she hasn't died because they need her for a possible SC3.
Jim then tries to lead the toss, zerg and terran forces against the evil, but fails. Then our new protoss hero steps in and helps, but they are overwhelmed. In the last minute they believe in the heart of the cards and make a miraculous comeback, defeating the void.
