For a 30 man setup you should have that 3 KP for the mafia.
Say you have 30 players, 6 mafia with 2 KP. If the town mislynches every day the mafia will win after night 6 (assuming no KP went to waste on veterans, medics, etc). That's a lot of mislynches you have to endure in order to win.
While not directly applicable, it should be noted that in real life mafia games (of which player size isn't usually over 12) the setups are designed so that the mafia wins if the town mislynches either 2 or 3 times. (Note: the 2 or 3 is a bit player dependent and mostly a personal preference. In 7-8 player games 2 mislynches is good for a setup; 3 mislynches is good if you got 11-12 players. Even still, players have differing views on how many mislynches should be required for the mafia to win).
When you design a setup, the mafia KP is not the first thing you figure out. Instead, you ask the question, "how many mislynches should the town receive before they lose?" Then you determine that number (again, personal preference factors in a lot) and base KP on how many blue roles you have that interfere with that number. In theory, for a 30 man game, you can have 2 mafia and give them 5 or 6KP a night. Town gets 5 or 4 lynches to hit one of them. In reality this is probably close to balanced, but obviously this game wouldn't be very fun if hosted (for one it would probably only last a week and a half or so).
So instead of thinking of just the direct effects of mafia KP ("zomg 3 KP is sooooo much!!") ask yourself the question, "how many mislynches should the town get before they lose?" or "how many lynches should the mafia survive to be victorious?" then see what works. 30 man setup with 3KP....Mafia will have to survive at least 5 lynches to win, and that's probably pretty good for 30 players. (Personally, I'm more of a fan of giving town less lynches to win, but again, personal preference).

Foolishness is probably town, that post is very correct, I can't see any reason mafia would spend time posting that or pay enough attention to realize this is the case.
I very much agree with the idea that most games should be balanced around having a similar number of mislynches required for town to lose, and correct lynches for town to win. It's always the first stat I look at when I balance games. This obviously becomes a lot more difficult to figure out when you add killing roles and even third parties, but for a baseline when designing setups it's usually good to figure out early "If this was vanllia townies vs mafia goons, what amount of KP and what number of mafia would be balanced".
I'm also a fan of kurumi's idea here to allow mafia to sacrifice KP for a role, because it reduces the swingyness of the setup. Although I haven't analysed if mafia should have more KP than they do because 6 goons with 3kp against a role-filled town may be kinda hard, but that needs analysis.
