As we get closer to the 1st year anniversary of SC2 Quote of the Day, I thought I'd give you guys a brief update on the state of things, plus an announcement. Be sure, it's not an announcement of announcement, just the announcement itself, so let's get it out of the way before the hype consumes us:
+ Show Spoiler +
We are planning to do a SC2 Quote of the Year 2012 TL poll (quote nominations selected by the SC2QOTD team from quotes recorded in 2012): one poll to find the quote, and one quote to rule them all... for 2012.
That was the announcement, stay tuned for something to be posted here over the next few days and please let your voice be heard when it comes to it... we are also planning some t-shirts/stickers giveaways to go with this
What's going on with SC2 Quote of the Day, then? In case you are interested keep reading
Brief history: the unfortunate idea for SC2 Quote of the Day struck sometime in December 2011 during a sleepless night on a German holiday (blame it on too many bratwursts and weissbiers). The first version was implemented over the Christmas holidays last year and released to the public on the 1st of January 2012 (with the quote that inspired it all), and it truly sucked (no screenshots were taken, thank God). The site was reworked shortly afterwards and it sucked a bit less, then reworked again in June to the current state with the addition of the quote archives, and hopefully it's a bit more bearable now (mind you, the quotes may be sick but the site still sucks).
State of things: so it's been almost a year of collecting quotes, the team has grown from an army of one to a band of 5, with many other active helpers who consistently submit quotes during events. We also launched a store with the idea of having merchandise with quotes to support the site - it has proven "challenging" to sort out the legal side of licensing for some of the designs we had in mind so we had to settle for what's currently in the store, which we hope is at least a nice way for people to show support for what we do, if for some weird reason anybody wanted to do that.
Future plans: well, we mainly plan to keep doing what we do, so basically we'll keep providing live event coverage in quotes on twitter (@sc2quotes) plus publishing a "quote of the day" on the site. We also really want to implement some new features on the site that people asked for, in particular for making the quote archives easier to navigate (e.g. text search function), and we are working on some mobile apps ideas, but in general we are open to feedback and suggestions, so if you have any please feel free to leave a comment here, chat us up on twitter or send an email from the site. Also we will definitely keep pursuing some of the merchandise ideas we have, with our priority being working with some of the quoted personalities (players/casters) on some cool designs (for t-shirt and possibly stickers) that would benefit them directly and help us support the site.
Closing, thanks to the many of you in the community who have shown support so far. I also wanna take the opportunity to say we are on the lookout for a few more volunteers who might wanna join our team as lately it has become extremely difficult to cover all SC2 content around the clock - there's no such thing as too much SC2 but it's the voice of sleep deprivation speaking here!
Happy holidays from the SC2QOTD team!
