So I have played every race up to Diamond so far and I cannot really decide which I want to pursue in higher levels of play. I would like to make the correct decision before it is too late for me to switch.
If you guys don't mind, can you please respond to this in the comments below answering the following?
1) Based off of WoL what, in your opinion, is the hardest race to play? (Highest skill ceiling)
2) Based off of WoL, what, in your opinion, is the race that is most admired when played well?
I basically want to choose the race that is difficult to play, while also gaining admiration or respect for playing it well at higher levels, and feeling like I didn't simply win a match because I am "imbalanced."
Thanks. Dragonfly

Based of WoL? 1)Terran 2)Terran

imo terran definitely is the hardest to play i can play high diamond level zerg, low diamond (okay high plat) level toss, and dogshit terran. and i almost have 500 terran wins, its not like i didnt try!

The person you beat will always say you won because of imbalance, no matter your race. Don't worry about their respect and just play whatever race you like the most.
That being said, random is the hardest, and considering there are no good pros who play random, it'd get you the most respect.

At highest level of play each race is very challenging, and with how much stuff that is going on and the possibilities in SC2, it's hard to say there's one race that sticks out as blatantly harder to master than the others- this ends this little disclaimer.
For diamond+ however, I'd say Terran for both categories. Forgiving however the newest patch will affect the game, up to now Terran has been almost synonymous with difficult to play. I will admit a lot has to do with the options in game, Terran has had quite a few methods to engage opponents with, and that comes with the advantage of versatility, with the burden of having to know the race inside and out.
If ya want my opinion outside of this criteria, maybe play a few more games even, go for a race that has mechanics and game-play that you enjoy most. Hell, I chose my race after my favorite players from BW: BoxeR and Fantasy, I wanted to play with the tools they played with. If I hadn't gotten into SC back in 2007, and instead started today, I'd likely be playing 'Toss to match skill with nerd ballers like MC and Grubby

Terran is so narrow in the ways you can be effective. Thankfully WoL will make Terrans without Marine Hive Mind less sorry.

Zerg is definitely the most boring to play. If you are looking for a fuckton of work go with Terran. Protoss is alright because of all the gay shit you can do.
But Zerg is definitely the most boring and routine.

If all three of your races are consistent, then I would advise Random (as in picking a race randomly before each game, or else you're going to get raged at so hard). Having the goal of getting back into mid-Masters as a random player really motivated me to start playing the game again. Just make sure you play macro or don't cheese too obnoxiously (idk if there's a difference or not but apparently there is according to opponents), or else your opponent will BM you for half-an-hour afterwards. But if you do play macro games and actually outplay them, you will get respect from a lot of the players you meet.

For BW nostalgics who never played BW and complained SC2 is much different from BW. The difficulty and race roles in each matchup is VERY MUCH similar

Unless you are GSL, you will never reach the "skill ceiling" so any race capability is much more than you can utilise.
Or if you feel so strongly, just select one of the following criteria and choose your race (with justification): - Least played (I am hipster. No mirror matchup) - Most admired (I so skillful, admire me pls) - Most OP in general consensus (I play to win yo) - Most UP in general consensus (You only win cos of your race) - Most APM required (LOL.. no skill. Your race so little APM)

People will respect your character, not your choice of race. There's nothing respectable about trying to gain respect for its own sake.

Terran all the way. yo hit em up in game. Jitzu 131

I don't always play starcraft, but when I do, I prefer terran. It has the highest capacity for making me feel impressive, though usually I just mess everything up. In terms of respect, I think people respect those who play the race they do, or maybe thats just me. Also,
People will respect your character, not your choice of race. There's nothing respectable about trying to gain respect for its own sake. I think that is wrong. Laddering is generally done to improve or accomplish something for yourself, it is not a humble activity. Best mirror matchup too.

The problem with your question is that at the release of the game it was: 1. Zerg 2. Zerg
Now it's Terran, but there is an expansion coming out in March so you should try each of the races new units and pick the one you like best. Since no one knows who it will be two years from now.

It used to be Zerg and Zerg, but now it's Terran and Terran. Terran is also by far the most fun race, and the least poorly designed. And it's the only race with a decent mirror match.

Also even if you're not allowed to answer that, the races are difficult in different ways, so you can't really give an accurate comparison
Personally I played mostly Random, but perhaps a little more Toss in WoL, and I'm considering doing the same except with Zerg instead in HotS. Not decided on that yet though
