Hey I'm not really used to doing this kind of blog thing but recent developments have me wanting to tell people what's happening with me as a way to keep calm.
So for the last 5 months I have been coughing quite a bit. After a few doctor visits and medicines and it didn't go away I kinda just got used to it. But for the last month or so it has gotten worse and has been causing me to throw up after coughing in that I have lost more than 20 pounds in a month. So I went back to the doctor and he ordered an X-ray and they saw something on there that quote "didn't belong." so the next day I was scheduled for a cat scan (with contrast for u med buffs out there) and they saw a mass. Well 2 days later (today) I had an appointment with a pulmonologist (respiratory doctor) and he went over the cat scan with me. I have 2 masses in between my lungs. A 4.5cm and a 2.5 cm one. So after going over options I'm having a procedure so they can biopsy one of them. And hopefully we will find out from there. My grandpa died from lung cancer (something something carcinoma not a smoker neither am I) so that pretty much terrifies me. Will update when I get more info.
(update) So next Wednesday I'm meeting with a surgeon in Indianapolis (I live in Indiana) to schedule my biopsy. I seem to be getting sicker with a little blood in my vomit. Hoping that we can get the biopsy scheduled soon. Having my biopsy today. Up early. They are doing a mediostienoscopy that's where the cut right above your collar bone and but the probe down there.
Biopsy came back
ITS NOT CANCER! It is histoplasmosis which is a fungal infection. I go to a doctor next week and will get several rounds of anti-fungals and I should be cured!! Thank all of you for all the encouragement and kind words!

Best of luck, buddy. I hope everything turns out alright.

Hey. One of the things that helps me when I get sick is Hydrogen Peroxide. I recommend getting some food grade hydrogen peroxide (NOT THE STUFF YOU PUT ON CUTS). What you do with the Hydrogen Peroxide (H-P I'll refer to it), is you dilute 3 drops in a water bottle or liter of water so, 3 times a day. (Note only take this 2 hrs after you eat, and 1 hour before, so be prepared to not eat for 3 hours or so). Then you start to titrate up by 1 each day, so tomorrow you would do 4 drops, 3 times a day, then 5, you get to about 25 but it start to taste repulsive at that high of amount so I usually go up to 15. Once at your max, you titrate back down to 3. I wish you well, and know that the TL community is here for you. Here are the studies to verify my claim: + Show Spoiler + Hydrogen Peroxide Cancer Treatment: + Show Spoiler +http://www.cancertutor.com/Cancer/HydrogenPeroxide.html

I hope all goes well for you.
For those of you who don't like going to the doctor or whatever, if you have a persistent cough that does not go away after a couple weeks, seek treatment

Please ignore all the quackery linked in this post. There isn't a shred of legitimate clinical proof that H2O2 does as they claim.
Their reasoning is faulty to begin with. Cancertutor starts with, "It has been clinically demonstrated that the spread or metastatis of cancer is inversely proportional to the amount of oxygen around the cancer cells. The more oxygen, the slower the cancer spreads. The less oxygen, the faster the cancer spreads. If cancer cells get enough oxygen, they will die (cancer cells are anaerobic). It is thought that hydrogen peroxide kills cancer cells because cancer cells do not have the mechanism to break down hydrogen peroxide that healthy cells have."
To start, one should read http://jmcb.oxfordjournals.org/content/4/3/174.full which states that yes hypoxia is generally linked to cancer growth but not surprisingly, the tumor releases angiogenesis growth factors, recruits local blood cells, has the oxygen and nutrient pathway restored, and continues to grow. There is no evidence whatsoever that cancers are anaerobic nor that they will die in the presence of "enough oxygen", whatever that means. A nice follow-up is the effect of interstitial fluid pressure on the angiogenic behavior of solid tumors (see C. Phipps, M Kohandel in Computational and Mathematical Methods in Medicine, June 2011).
Finally we come to http://cancerres.aacrjournals.org/content/72/21/5600.full, which has as the first sentence of the Introduction, "Tumor hypoxia is a poor prognostic factor for patient outcome (1, 2). This is likely from hypoxic induction of angiogenic factors, chemokines, oncogenes, and other drivers of tumor progression (3) that confer metastatic competence (4)." Simply stated, the arrival of additional blood supply provides cancer cells that may have undergone additional mutation as a result of hypoxic induction a pathway towards aerobic growth and/or metastatsis.
If all the math and bio talk is overwhelming, see http://www.cancer.org/treatment/treatmentsandsideeffects/complementaryandalternativemedicine/pharmacologicalandbiologicaltreatment/oxygen-therapy which states, "Available scientific evidence does not support claims that increasing oxygen levels in the body will harm or kill cancer cells." This includes H2O2 therapy.
I understand this is a frightening time for you, but it is in your best interest to listen to your doctor and follow a legitimate treatment course.

I wish you all the best, friend

that's heart breaking, dude. you sound brave and calm, which amazes me. Best of luck and warm greetings your way. You got this.
|
Best of luck, mate. I hope it's just a granuloma. Did you get a PPD test? (small injection of tuberculine)? You sound really calm and brave for what you're having. Best of luck. Do tell us how your biopsy goes...
|
On ya buddy. Hope it all goes well.

I had something similar for a little over 6 months when I was 19. I didn't go to any doctor at all, I just mean the insane cough with mucus, throw up, blood, and weight loss. Every OTC medicine in the world didn't help, but Dayquil was by far the most amazing. It slowly went away after the 6 month mark. I say this because I'm not only interested in your well being, but the results of all of your biopsies and treatment. Best of luck.

Thank all of you for all the encouragement and kind words! That's good news! Hope you learned your lesson and will visit the doctor a bit earlier if you have problems. Man, you have to stop abusing those Infestors, they are dirty dirty creatures.
