Yes, because law is the basis for all morality. A 14 year old is not an adult, and if you are trying to find a way to make having sex with a 14 year old as a an adult any less creepy and wrong, I really want nothing to do with you.

And Destiny was trying to mount a legitimate defense, but the downvote brigade swept in and censored it. Not saying I agree with his point, of course, but we should be able to discuss the issue in a mature way without degrading into a poltically motivated poop flinging fest.

I don't get why people use reddit to do anything other than troll and post horrible pictures, it seems to all intensive purposes to be just a horrible place filled with trolls and children, why do pro players even bother having accounts there??
|
This is so dumb. The Stephano incident was utterly retarded. This is just as stupid.
The SC community was bad enough with the moronic witch hunts when they were internal. Now we have assholes who know nothing about this community watch dogging our players for no reason other than so they can feel good about themselves as they fall asleep?
This is terrible. This game is played by young nerdy dudes with a competitive thirst. They're going to say stupid things and do stupid things. We can tell them to mature without contacting fucking sponsors and harassing people.
Actually, why the fuck are they going after Destiny? They're either really bored or are planning a crusade.
|
Wow - some people need to get a life. It seems like they feel inadequate about their own lives and they try to create a false sense of success by ruining others'. I'm not condoning any of the actions taken by SRS or their victims - but seriously. This whole he said/she said thing needs to stay in middle school.
|
Wait, so these people actually think stephano is a legit pedophile?
they have to be the stupidist retards of all time...
stephano was clearly joking, whether it was a funny or poor joke is irrelevant, he still wasnt being serious. look at all these meme's they're spending their time making.
If these are the same people who like to contact sponsors and create drama to get players in trouble then they are cancer
|
Seriously guys, just quit this bullshit. Why make such a fuss about what people say, my god are you all a bunch of children? This reminds me of high school Why are people trying to make look people bad? Props for Destiny, at least he says what he wants and thinks and doesn't give a shit about those pety little twats who are trying to stirr up trouble.

What is Reddit and why do people care what goes on there? Like really...
|
I agree this group is a problem, and will be a player again in SC2. What we need is sponsors that understand the scene is full of people under the guise of anonymity, and will act accordingly. But that seems like a pretty tough task.

statutory rape noun U.S. Law . sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of consent, which age varies in different states.
fun fact: this age limit varies not only in US states, but in country to country too. for example, in sweden it is 15yo. odds are pretty good that when destiny said "14 year old" he meant "person just about old enough to be of consentual age" and fun fact: if both you and your partner is of consentual age, then it cannot possibly be statutory rape. it can be normal rape, but that would require 1 person to disagree with the act, which we assume is not the case since nothing of the sort was mentioned.
so in short, noone is trying to justify statutory rape. get your facts straight.
whether intercourse with someone barely of consentual age is pedophilia however... well, its not.
from wikipedia: Pedophilia This article is about the sexual interest in prepubescent children. For the sexual act, see Child sexual abuse. For the primary sexual interest in 11–14 year old pubescents, see Hebephilia. For mid-to-late adolescents (15–19), see Ephebophilia.
I would say 14 years old is a long way away from prepubescent.
quick note: no I am not sexually attracted to people younger than legal age. I am 20.

Morality is an individual pursuit. Your morals are different than mine.
My point was that you saying statutory rape, which is based on law, not morals, has different criteria depending on country.

People on reddit have way too much time
|
The vast ignorance and antipathy that so many TL members showcase regarding Reddit is much more annoying than any drama SRS or other trolls could cause.
|
This kind of thing always empowers the psychotic minority.
|
YOU are the one hurting this community by making threads about this irrelevant garbage.
|
Can someone please take the time to explain the situation so that people who don't understand the whole situation (like me) can form an unbiased opinion? All I'm seeing here is "Fuck you SRS, fuck this shit, fuck off."
|
There's a lot of people posting saying that this is just hatemongering, but the bigger picture is that SRS is the embodiment of what we all hate about the reddit and screddit community. They are witch-hunters in the purest form, and they represent a huge negative influence on the community.
|
If these SRS people continue to exist, our players will have a difficult time earning a living of streaming if they are not careful enough to run the risk of saying something controversial. This is hard to avoid for some people, especially destiny who stands up hard for his opinions. Other people are not so different. It is not uncommon for us to say/do something questionable.
The least we can do as a SC2 Community is to find a way so these SRS people will shut up. 1. Contact the SRS people themselves and tell them to give players/streamers a break and not make a big deal of anything by emailing the sponsors. We ask them to stop and tell them anyone can make a mistake. There is no point in trying to ruin someone's career.
2. If they do not agree and continue to prey on our players, we should take a more stronger action by using our mob power to get back at them. We find IT experts among us to trace their IP addresses, emails, personal and we harass them. Basically internet vigilante justice. This will might them stop. This sounds very extreme, but its still an option.

This thread is pointless, along with the arguments going on in it.
Though, I'd like to help you clarify something as a random helper Mr. Apack! Law cannot be the basis for morality as that does not logically work, at least not in a progressive society. This is because there would be no standards objectively set outside of the "law" - pretty comparable to the arbitrariness problem. If there are no standards, there is no obligation to society's standards. Therefore, ethics have to be the standards for law. Not the other way around as it wouldn't make any factual/morally objective sense; in short, law wouldn't mean anything if there was no ethics that it came from.
That's the sprinkling of philosophy I'll leave, and with that said I'll vanish off into the night. Philosophy man to the rescue. Saving illogical statements from the scary depths of subjectivity.
Seriously though, close this thread T_T;; Nothing good is going to come from this.. It's depressing these are popping up more and more D:

I was reading through the threads and it was really, really funny. In a sad way. In a sad, people who literally can't imagine how other people can see things differently than them way. But I chuckled.
