If it was Derrick Williams or even Jonas Valanciunas, I wouldn't really care. It was just awful awful luck, since you know, it's the Clippers. In hindsight, you might have top-3 protected it, (duhhhhhhhhhh) but the trade was the right move. Caron's contract on the other hand... Statistically improbable or not, there was no reason to leave it unprotected. Even if it had netted Derrick Williams or Valanciunas, I would still have said it was a dumb move. In fact, I thought it was stupid before we knew where it ended up.

But...apparently they are bringing over some big guys from Europe next year. That seems right to me as there just aren't many good big men available. Hopefully they will pan out better than Tiago Fucking Splitter.

I bet hardly anyone is on the record calling that move stupid - because it wasn't stupid. There are tons of transactions out there that happen the exact same way. Your original point is fine - Neil Olshey isn't some kind of RC Buford, my god, he was Mike Dunleavy's apprentice! But the trade was perfectly reasonable, Baron's contract was really really bad - a complete albatross. Add to that the fact that we had a 0% guarantee that the Amnesty Clause was coming in the next CBA, it was the right move through and through. Geez, even with the amnesty, I doubt Sterling would offer it. I doubt anyone would have taken that contract with top 5 lottery protection. Top 1, probably, yes. Oversight, hindsight, Clippers' Dynasty Q_Q EDIT: Well, maybe you did know this would happen, so that's not fair for me to say. Nevertheless, I still think it was the right move for the franchise long term.

Forgot about the Dunleavy factor. I guess we should be giving Olshey credit for doing as well as he has in light of who he developed under

Rumor has it that it's some European scrub who'll never see the NBA... god damn it Warriors.

The Magic get the cap room and picks that HOU is best-equipped to provide, the Rockets get the Allstar Center they've been seeking for years who actually wants to play there long-term in Bynum, and the Lakers get D12 and is one of the teams that could arguably convince him to stay with the large market/Hollywood angle. Hope it happens. Is my reading of the trade correct: Bynum to Rockets, D12 to Lakers and Orlando get picks/young talent from Rockets. I think Houston's making a big boo-boo if they want to build their franchise around Bynum. Lakers would be laughing (AGAIN) if this deal went through.

Bynum to Houston is begging for another Lamar Odom incident.
