I'm reading Twitter and people are saying to judge the trade as "Williams+JJ+Crash+Lopez" vs Miami in a best of 7.
It's like people don't realize that team isn't a powerhouse like the 08 Celtics or the 2011 Miami Heat. THEY HAVE NOT ONE GREAT 2 WAY PLAYER. They are going to get fucking murdered.
ETA: Jesus can that team even beat Indy or Philly? Can they even beat the Knicks? Forget Miami, Boston or a healthy Chicago.
Good fucking god Joe Johnson is making 24.9 million in 2015-16.
How the hell is Billy King still a GM?

Source indicated earlier that the Nets would proceed with JJ deal whether or not they get commitment from Deron Williams to stay w/Brooklyn.
Hahahaha...

Ya trying to figure out their logic for trading for JJ is puzzling lol. Unless their ultimate goal was to have this go public so that Howard could think like "oh shit I am running out of time to get max in NJ", I don't really understand what the hell they're thinking. Are they hoping ATL would help cover some of his salary for them being so nice/stupid?
Now that Howard has said he wants to be traded, why would they still go after JJ? The whole JJ trade was before the Howard request, so I would think that NJ would have shifted gears to there, right?
I saw some report Kirilenko is coming back to the NBA and wans to play for Nets. Prob hoping he can sucker a few million from King as well lol.
edit: just saw its been confirmed I guess. Thought it was still speculation ...gonna have to check details of deal in a bit.

holy shit I'm still shocked this is going to happen. Seriously how fucking DUMB do you have to be?
|
I hope The Nets will enjoy their 1 year window .___.
Or maybe this is just a mandate from Prokhorov? Maybe he doesn't care about the tax at all? I mean, he is the richest owner in the NBA right? If so, I LOVE this move.
EDIT:
Paul Allen 14.2 Billion Mikhail Prokhorov: 13.4 Billion
Too bad =(

Even if they could afford this lineup:
Williams + JJ + Wallace + Humphries + Lopez.
Does this team even win a fucking game vs Miami?
|
I could see that starting lineup winning games against Miami. I dunno about any type of series.
|
You think that team wins even 1 game vs Miami in a series? Miami might have the best three players on the court in that series. It would be just like them beating the shit out of the Knicks.
|
The Knicks managed to win a game though! There is hope! For winning one game, anyways.
|
Sweeps are more rare than they seem, I think there's only been 62 or so in NBA history. Even the worst NBA team can beat the best NBA team. That's why it's a professional sport. The Heat are still way better. But that starting lineup could take a game off the Heat. I can't remember watching any recent game where Wallace guarded James though, since he's been on the Bobcats.
More importantly, what if Deron doesn't sign and the Nets are left holding the paper? Ha.
|
Sweeps are rare but look at Miami's playoff series the last 2 years. Outside of losing to Dallas, when they have had all three of their stars healthy they have just killed people. 12-3 in the EC last year, killed the Knicks and OKC when healthy this year, and just ripped Boston apart when Bosh finally came back.
Why would that team, that will need time to gel to even sniff the ECF have any shot if taking a game off of Miami? I seriously think that team is so bad people will rage when they see it in action. They literally HAVE TO WIN NOW. For fucks sake Joe Johnson is going to end up making $25 mil in a few years! That's Kobe money! Kobe! Kobe that play with Bynum + Pau and couldn't make it to the WCF 2 years straight! And Joe Johnson is not even in the same fucking stratosphere. He isn't even a top 5 SG and is at best a top 20 player.
They are cooked.
|
Look, I get your point. Joe Johnson is a middling star* with, arguably, the worst contract in professional sports. Deron Williams is a baller but a tad overrated. Their front court is stout but pretty lame. Their 3 is an aging "athlete first" energy guy, also with a questionable contract. They are way worse than The Heat.
But this is a 1st to 2nd round team in the East. Was it a good move long-term? NOOOOOO. Was it even a good move short term? Not really. But they could win 1 game against The Heat. That's all I was saying.
|
Yes and I'm saying if THAT is your ceiling why even make the move? Spending that much $$ means you have to win now. And you're aiming for "dont get swept by Miami"?
That should tell you this is a disaster waiting to happen. The Nets must be ready to trade someone else because that team is trash.

yeah that's not a great lineup right now and it's just terrible going forward
|
So here's thing I've been thinking: The Nets still have their amnesty, maybe they just use it on Johnson after 2 seasons. I mean, could Prokhorov be that rich? Maybe he'll just swallow that $68 million dollar.
This was also an outrageous move because they didn't even try to get Howard first and this basically, seals them out of making a deal. It's crazy! Howard is telling the universe that the Nets are the only team he'll extend with, and Billy King trades his entire team and shutters his cap with Joe Johnson? Dude. Go learn how to do your job.
|
They can't amnesty a guy put on the team after the CBA. And they've already amnestied Travis Outlaw anyway.
I just had to look at Marshon Brooks stats because I thought he was just "ok at best on a good day" last year on a terrible team, which isn't a good sign.
And this is what I see: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/brookma01.html
I looked his MP because I thought his numbers were "decent, but not great" because he played like 22 MPG. Turns out it was damn near 30.
God I hate Billy King.
|
Well, if Danny Ferry didn't already win Executive of the Year, he'll be getting it next season when the Hawks get Dwight and CP3, lol.
|
Dwight to ATL, DAL, LAL?!?
|
Others have summed up the Nets' stupidity. In any new CBA I'll be siding with the players this time. The owners are just too dumb to warrant any sympathy now.
|
Oh and the Nets killed any chance of acquiring Dwight now unless they then flip some acquired players. Maybe Wallace/Lopez/filler?
I really don't get it. I hope Billy King has a plan because if this is his master stroke trade (JJ...) then he shouldn't be in a job.
Hawks fans should be popping the bubbly today. What a scam.
