What the hell do people do in the evenings?
I'm just going to be blunt here, I really have no friends and I've been trying to overcome my issues with anxiety. I'm trying to stop wasting so much time playing games or just sitting around in general. But I find that I really have no idea what the to do when it gets dark. I could read, or do stuff on the computer (such as this!), or watch TV, or attempt to sleep. But I'm trying not to waste so much time on things like these.
So I ask you, people of TL who have more social aptitude than I (which would probably be most if not all of you). What should I be doing during this time?

Girlfriend, game or read. Or watch a movie. I'd say reading is a really productive habit to get into. Girlfriend is nice because she has a great family that's fun to be around, so it's not just us two being bored together. Gaming is fun because a lot of my family games, and we get on Teamspeak and play League all night.

I train for rugby twice a week -- it's also a great way to make friends and socialise. Other nights I watch TV and go to the gym. If not, I'll just torrent a movie and enjoy that.

It sounds like you are in high school from what you wrote, so maybe try to find a job? It will force you to be not at home and deal with people. Could possibly help with your social problems. The added benefit of money to do whatever you want with is cool too.

Work on friendships/relationships during the day and then the evening activities will come. Really not much to do when you're alone every night.

-Schoolwork -Job work -Go out with friends -Girlfriend -Games/ hobbies -Screw around on the computer
Honestly, I don't think those answers are anything you wouldn't have thought of on your own.
Just be happy and don't waste your life... different meaning for each person.

One thing you might try to do is set aside maybe 20-30 minutes each day to get on the phone and talk to someone. Doesn't matter who, but you have to talk to someone each day. A lot of times this could help you to sort of stumble upon opportunities, set up meetings / fun activities / dates. Hell, call your grandma, it might help you get over some of your anxiety. I am kind of the same way with people so I sometimes force myself to start conversations, getting on the phone is a great way to do it.

do you have a job or go to school? every friday ask your coworkers/classmates that you talk to what they are doing that night.. see if they want to hang out (like go with them to whatever they are doing)

Because I'm working full-time, the only times I have to work out are either really early in the morning or at night, so I spend a few evenings a week doing that. I also cook sometimes, an extra-large portion so I can refrigerate it and just heat up leftovers some other time. If you have a kitchen, I highly recommend learning to cook, and spending a few nights a week doing that. It's a skill that will definitely come in handy.

RECORD A RAP ALBUM... sorry for the caps, I just got all excited.

Like other people said, I do some jogging and exercises, read, movies/series, games, little things around the house that need doing like straightening up my room, etc. When I was still studying, I'd have dinner with my friends or hang around school with them until early evening, but of course things are different now that I'm working. If you're still in school, maybe there are organizations that you could join? Even if you're not, what are you interested in? There might be groups for that, especially outdoor stuff like ultimate frisbee, mountaineering, and hiking.

Get a hobby/gf/go run or atleast do some sort of physical activity. And you should go see a doctor if you have an anxiety.

I go out in the dark of the night and break into peoples houses to steal valuables. If someone wakes up and catches me I tie them up and talk to them through the night so I fulfill my social needs. When the sun begins to rise I grab the valuables I got (stole), sell them at a pawn shop and use the money to support my gaming career. + Show Spoiler +I actually just play sports. Play team games and you make friends

Go out. Just fucking go out. Shoot some hoops, and ask to join other's games if they have an odd number. Run at the nearby park or trail and say hi to people you see. Go to the gym and ask people how to use the equipment if you don't know. Read a book. Spend time with your family. Just fucking go. You aren't as important as you think you are in the lives of people you have never met.

Depends on a lot buddy, what age are you, go to school? have work? Personally I am 21 and in college, I make friends pretty easily. All I had to do was just get over being scared to do it. Talk when there are lots of people around that will get peoples attention and then they will want to do things with you. You like to read? Find a book club, joining things like that, or sports teams are best ways to meet people and will keep you more productive.
I have friends and I honestly dont know if that helps a whole lot, most of the time none of us know what to do so we just all end up doing one of those things you listed like watching a movie together or playing some kind of game.

The world always needs more volunteers.
Check for your local volunteer emergency service/response teams.
For your situation, it sounds like the safest way to meet people: it gives you a good reason to be interacting with other people.

Sign up for ball room dancing. That will solve all your problems.

Seriously though, try going out somewhere (if you're old enough, that is). Just go out to a club or the like (why not a BarCraft? Check the "BarCrafts" pert on TL and see if there's one near you), have a few drinks (not too many, because that WILL come back to bite you in the arse later), and try to talk with some people.
Not a club person? That's ok, find people who share your interests and practice these interests together. It's as simple as that, really.
