Day 1: The coup suceeded, I am now the ruler of the jetpack birds. The galaxy will tremble before our might, led by Selkie! Now that our internal politics have been sorted out, it is time to look outwards, to colonize and rule the stars!
We have a strong homeworld, with technology to leap light-years to other worlds, and bring the glory of the jetbirds to all! Here is the view of the galaxy, according to our astronomers:
Hmmm. There appears to be stars that are colored.... I wonder why that is....
Admiral! Send out the fleets on a mission of exploration and conquest! All will bow before our might!
Good. Now that our fleets have been launched, it is time to build the empire. My coup has left me rich, along with keeping intact the current infrastructure of our majestic planets. It is time to improve our science, our economy, and our industry! The unstoppable machine that is jetbirds will march onwards! Anticipating a thousand-year empire, I have devoted much of my funds leftover from fleet-building towards improve our economy and our sciences! I am wary, however, of the mysteries of space- while we boldy go where none have gone before, there are risks, and so I have order a portion of our funds towards improving our ship building.
As for technology, I have dictated to our scientists that they are to focus on improving the speed which our ships travel the stars, to reach them earlier. It is fortunate that we had a genius already discover the way to pin-point distant stars, so we may reach out and take them. I dare say that his techniques can not be improved on- I shall not even attempt it! After improving our fleet's speed, I have also ordered that our engineers improve our ability to scan through space, to see what we can see.
A good start to my rule. I shall rest now, and tomorrow, see what reports come in, and new orders to be submitted. It is as they say: No rest for the wicked.

Day 2.
It is good to be the king. Or commander. Or ruler. Everyone is calling me one or another, and in a sense, I am a bit of them all. Trifles! Insignificant! The colors around the odd stars has turned out to be, of all things, OTHER CIVILIZATIONS. Yes, we had found life on other planets, but none of it intelligent! Apparently, these other races are not only intelligent, but space-faring as well. It is a good thing I have ordered our army to increase, we shall continue to increase our forces.
Ironically, it appears that each star has its own color due to the race's ships in orbit, simply due to how each species works, small parts of the stars's light changes, and only that color is emitted, making it clear where each civilization is located. How did we learn that these were other civilizations? We received messages from space. For eons we have scanned the stars, looking for signs- now we have them, and we can transmit information quickly indeed. Within hours, our scientists and theirs were working on developing language so that we could communicate, and as both of our most brilliant scientists were on that matter, we were able to talk. Not only talk, but we have an alliance agreement to defend ourselves and each other against more vicious races. Naturally, the Jetbirds will be the ones to rule the stars- but we must go about it carefully- full on aggression against everyone else we meet will, in time, cause everyone to band together against us. We can naturally win in such a scenario, but why take the risk? Better to have someone else hand us the stars... As such, we have a formal treaty with "Maroon", to better rule the galaxy "together"
I received multiple reports from my scientists today, multiple breakthroughs were made both in the realms of ship speed and the ability to scan space. Such rapid development even I had not anticipated, they have all been given bonuses and told to improve our weapons- something they went to, I was told, with much bloodthirsty glee.
As I look over the map of the stars, I can see that most of the 'others' have begun expanding as well. However, some of them appear, of all things, to be having internal political problems, and are not taking to the stars at all! This bodes well, as I can claim territory near them.... before moving on, and crushing them.
As for our empire? Its growth is a wonderful thing. No sooner do we land and claim planets in a system than entrepreneurial fellows land, and begin building economic and industrial production. I must see about giving those fellows a tax break, to better encourage them...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey there! I'm playing a game called Neptune's Pride, a "slow" RTS played over several weeks. It is real-time, and it's slow. For more information on the game, I have a thread here: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=343505 (if you want to play, read it!)
I will be RPing this particular game on this blog - wish me and mine luck! (12 person free for all... I hope I'm not the first to go!)
Couldn't someone use this info to own you in that game? I certainly would. :p
Very enjoyable read overall, and creative. 5/5
edit: How much time does it take/day to play this?
|
About 5 minutes a day to execute orders - how long you want to spend planning those orders though...
And I doubt the people I'm playing with are searching TL for information
For the TL game I'm trying to set up, I won't be posting as it happens
Ok, thats nice. I've read 2 reviews so far. Will do tutorial and other stuff tomorrow morning. Thanks for mentioning this game!
Also... is this free or do you have to pay $$$? Didn't see that mentioned in either OP o.O Nvm. It is free but you have to pay for a premium/X amount of months to really enjoy all the features.
It's free for standard settings, you can pay to play custom settings, and you can pay to make a custom settings game that you can invite people to.
Which is what I've done.
I've set up a game for TLers to join, for free, that they can play with custom settings. Kind of a very large loophole it seems. (Instead of 8 people buying a key to play together, one person buys a key and everyone else rides on it XD)
Day 3. Little progress was made, the empire was simply solidified.
Our brave explorers have started to reach the ends of space, and we are finding ourselves squeezed by other empires. Our allies to the south are just that, allies, and we share a common front against Orange, a small and unworthy empire.
I have ordered our fleets to converge to a forward command center, from which they will launch a spearhead assult into the heart of Orange's empire. Coinciding with this assault, our allies will overrun the border planets, drawing out the enemy fleet. We will divide and conquor the empire, and share the spoils of war.
I am getting nervous about white, to the far galatic south. He is becoming... large... and has a large and well-developed economy behind him. His military might is lacking, but it might not be the case by the time we can get to him....
Day 7.
War. The all-consuming beast.
From day 4 onwards I have been in a constant state of war, with no time for quiet reflection. White allied with Maroon and I, and together we planned to sweep northwards.
Little did we know that northwards had the same plan.
We started with invading orange, and things were going well. Then a massive, 400+ ship fleet appeared at my northern border, intent on extermination, while orange decided to go out in a blaze of glory, and launched every ship at the heart of my empire.
This was worrisome, but could be dealt with.
Then maroon proved treacherous.
Instead of cleaning up and pacifying orange, he turned on me, and started to eat at my vulnerable core production worlds. That was it. I ordered every fleet to defend our homeworld, where our citizens live, work, and play. The green menace attacked with some 200 odd ships, and we only just held. Light green's ally has taken over orange's former empire, and is busy taking over our former colonies.
The edges of our empire have been abandoned, left to their own devices. I have left a token force at each planet, with luck it'll deter the invaders.
Luck. Ha. Those worlds are too rich to be ignored.
Instead, it is likely that they will be put to the torch, all of them.
In a few hours the last of our fleets will come straggling in. I have sent all our technology to the enemies of the northern alliance - maybe they can rule the universe instead. We will bunker down on our homeplanet, and pray that we become too tough of a nut to crack, and be overlooked... to come back another day.
My emergency plan, one I have not shared with anyone, is to take everything, and flee to the edges of space. This is only as a last resort, but I have quietly begun preparations.
