Title says all. I have stopped playing Starcraft 2 since a couple or months. I just get too angry when I lose and I find TvP extremely dull aswell as TvT against Mech, I don't enjoy the game enough anymore. I started watching anime and a ton of tv series, but I have caught up with all of them. The pain of waiting every week! So now I spent my days after school by just browsing the web and doing nothing.
What crossed my mind was exerting myself a bit more and doing some homework for subjects I normally don't make any, but I lack the motivation for most of my classes, they don't interest me enough and I can't sit down and do something productive unless I have a test. There is also no need to exert myself any more than I do now, because the Dutch high school system doesn't promote this in any way. You can get into any university, not that I have a real preference. My dad thinks it's a good idea to study at an American university, this would mean higher grades would be preferred. But I don't know if that's what I want to do. Anyway ontopic again, i'm just bored really =.=
I always have played games my whole live, they challenged me and they allowed me to compete against people all around the world. I really need this competition to enjoy games, I rarely finish Singleplayer games. Starcraft 2 is my first computer game, after playing solely on consoles, I can't play on consoles anymore after playing Starcraft lol. Anyone have some ideas for a good competitive game? I have tried Quake live but I just didn't enjoy it, I don't really know why :/ Seems like the perfect game for me to enjoy. The boredom almost has gotten to a point where I don't even want to try to find something enjoyable. I actually got slightly excited last week when I had a Latin test where I needed to learn 200 or so translated lines. Then when starting, I realized there is nothing my that I hate then just memorizing stuff(and then forgetting about it the day after). Anyway, when I realized I got excited for something like that I knew something needed to be done, haha.
Writing this blog already has given me a good idea. I am thinking about maybe picking up Counterstrike? I don't know if it's still an active game however.

A lot of people still play CS, but you could also, try out fighting games they're competitive and pretty fun especially since most matches won't last longer than a few minutes you can get a lot of play time without getting as frustrated as you do at SC2. Although the same is similar of CS

try tribes ascend, that's what i'll do. Downloaded it yesterday.
in regard to TV series: try watching some series that have finished already. Spares you the waiting pain at the end x)

I really need something different than een RTS, I played Starcraft a bit too much the last year ^^

CS 1.6 and CSS are still active, thought I can't say anything for the competitive communities there and how accessible they are. Unless you're going planning to go semi-pro or something, just try either one and see which you like best, don't stress about which is the "real" one or whatever. There are definitely clans around, look and see which are more competitive/suited to you.
Tribes:Ascend is a good choice as well. It's fun, you get to go really really fast, and there's a really high skill cap once you have a rough understanding of the game mechanics.
There are also the dota-likes. LoL, and HoN are free, and if you get access to the Dota 2 beta, try that as well. I've played all 3 an enjoyed them immensely, though I've pretty much gotten sick of dota-likes for a while now for my own reasons. But they're all decently fun, and you'll have a lot more fun playing with friends.
TL;DR: CS1.6/CSS, Tribes:Ascend, LoL/Dota2/HoN are my recommendations, in no particular order, try them all, they're worthwhile.
EDIT: scratched BW since you said you're not looking for an RTS.

just play LoL like everyone else...

try Sim City 3000 or Sim City 4 (with the expansion). great games in general and you can have a lot of fun customizing your city.

"Dutch high school system doesn't promote this in any way". You do know that with straight 8's you will have a free pass to any univercity, else you will have to 'fight' for it like everyone else. So, they do promote you to keep your grades up. I would suggest you tried About games, Tribes is really good

I agree with tribes as stated above \o/ gotta go fast

Need For Speed World is what I usually play when I am sick of SC2. Also I've been playing alot of casual Street Fighters.

This is new? Could you elaborate? I know of very populair studies like medicine where having higher grades is favorably but they are even changing this. I have never heard of needing good grades to get into a particular university. Not that it matters, there is very little difference between university's. Only between faculty's you can find big differences within science subjects. I won't get straight A's anyway, I really dislike to study for something like latin/history, teh fuck did I choose these subjects for anyway? I'm so stupid haha.

If you have 8's you bypass the "loting" (numerus fixus) and can join any study you want.
There aren't any good universities because Holland doesn't work like that, even though Leiden is pretty famous.
But if you want to do a study with a numerus fixus, you can get excluded. But if you have 8's, you will get in, no matter what.
Depending on the studies, this can be a huge deal. Medicine for example is very hard to get into because there are very few spots.
This isn't new either, this has been in place for a long time.

Ok, yeah I knew this. However, this is only for few study's and it differs from university. I can only think of medicine, maybe law and psychology? I plan on studying physics and all the university's I have been to are almost begging people to join beta subjects like physics.

Get into Street Fighter 4. Or read books. There's enough good books out there to last a lifetime.
|
I've stopped playing SC2 aswell, and have been enjoying both Fallout 3 and Tribes Ascend greatly.
Tribes is quite challenging and also I need some filler until Dota2 comes out !

I agree with read books or find something productive to do that you enjoy. I'm sort of the same way in that I've stopped playing starcraft for a bit and i end up on the internet doing nothing for long periods of time. I decided to start learning to read chinese (I already speak with some proficiency since my parents are fluent) and that's something that I find fun. You don't like memorzing things and it looks like you don't really enjoy latin/ languages but there are plenty of other hobbies that you can spend those hours learning to do things and maybe something with more tangible results will cure your boredom as well. I think learning an instrument or getting good with some sort of software like photoshop or music synthesizing programs or something could be an enjoyable and somewhat productive thing to do. Or if you want more videogames then counterstrike is pretty fun. You won't really have a hard time finding pubs to play in from my experience but I'm not well versed in the CS scene like starcraft.

If you are getting bored you could try new personalities and exchange time from time. you obviously have everything in life and the only way to enjoy life is to suffering a little.
multiple personalities is so fun when you are bored. they usually make enough problems so when you get back you will have a lot of things to fix.
enjoy. I know they do.
