The subject of this thread is not a license to roll out your inaccurate, misinformed, poorly conceived, tired, and downright offensive theories about race relations. |

So you think its perfectly okay to make racist comments? Just because alot of people do it , doesnt make it any better...

I am a black sc2 player so this is a direct attack on me and you know what I AM deeply offended how can he call himself a PROFFESIONAL CASTER? HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF A PROFFESINAL CASTER LIKE ORB SAID CRACKER ASS WHITE KID? You guys just dont understand this shouldnt be underplayed there needs to be consquences for this , there isnt a place for this kinda racism in proffesional e sports.

Words are bad and orb should feel bad for using them. I hope he understands his fault when he sees the thousands of comments about him spread across multiple websites. After all, a mob could never be wrong.
It always struck me as bad enough that modern gaming services like Battle.net have use moderation at a micro level based on what kind of language you use during your recreation. It's worse when political correctness incites a huge group of people to call someone a racist just because he was dicking around on the internet. It's Blizzard's business what they do with orb's account, and it's EG's business what they do with orb as a player, but with respect to /r/starcraft and this thread, we should all of us be doing anything else with our time besides gossiping.

God this is so hilarious. HAVE Any of you ever watched his stream? HE DOES BM ALOT AND IS A RACIST he almost always ends the statment with nigger when he is pissed. SRSLY GO LOOK AT HIS TAG it says ABSOLUTE JUDGEMENT. The fact that he lied about this PROVES THAT HE WAS ASHAMED.

This is just a way for all the TL imbeciles to have a big circle jerk and act all self righteous and it is disgusting to try and ruin someone for your own pleasure.
Everyone acting all hurt over this needs to grow up.
I believe that you are completely wrong. In any other non-esports public sphere, we would not be having this discussion, because he would have been fired by now. If this was a TV sports caster, a news reporter, politician or any other public figure, they would be fired, dead in the water and NOBODY would be defending them publicly. The fact people are defending him just shows how immature the scene really is.

It's the fact he lied about it to everyone that makes it unforgivable, at least to me. If he owned up to it, admitted his mistakes, and gave a sincere apology stating he'd work on his behavior.. I don't think the outcry would be as bad as it has gotten

True!
(not a refutation, I agree that it's not true)

Orb has seriously been topping the charts ever since this controversy started:
+ Show Spoiler +
The sooner EG can give their verdict, the better. (Then after another few days and threads arguing over whether or not EG made the right decision, maybe we can all move on.)

I think instead of calling them 'niggers', he should have called them 'Whiteys' or 'Germans' or 'Jew-Bitches'.
I wonder if that would change people's perception of the situation.

Players who insult other players while on the ice is fine if its insulting them about the game...but when it goes personal(making fun of someones family players get fined over it) And insults to other players can't even be heard or seen by the audience and they make it a big deal.
This community has been in a bubble for a decade(most of esports has) and it's always wanted more exposure and to go more mainstream. But yet they don't want to act proffesional in the eyes of the mainstream. Only if they get caught. In "real professional sports" the things that players say to each other on the field are just as bad as what Orb has said. If they get caught they given a little apology and get fined, and in the end it doesn't mean anything. Orb got caught, orb sort of apologized, orb is going to go on doing what orb does. The only real difference is that in Orb's case people will still hound him about this for ages. I honestly feel sorry for him, he obviously just doesn't know any better. I blame his environment. :/
Exactly if they got caught. Orb got caught...but fines really dont work in esports becaue the pay cheques for most are so small that if you wanted to make it comparable to nhl fines you would fine a player like a dollar( since nhl players get fined like 5-20k). I don't think orb should lose his job over this. But to not expect backlash when you get caught is naive imo.
I think hockey players will still get hounded for all the stuff they do until the next big story breaks. Oh noes another head shot!!!!! Which will be the same for this. But i think this is a good lesson for everyone to take note of.
I really dont blame his environment i grew up the exact same way and same environment and i really dont bm(i might call someone a cheesy fucker but thats about it).

I really don't care about what he said, and I don't care whether he stays or goes.
Orb has been relatively hated guy for a while, no surprise to see everyone jumping on him the first time they have somewhat of a reason to do so. Orb kind of buried himself with those lies though.

This is spot on. Remember Tiger Woods? Or a more recent example: Rush Liimbaugh.

what he did was wrong and deserves punishment, anyone who disagrees with that is out of there mind. now lets just leave it up to EG to decide what they want to do.

LOL. Go watch HoN/Dota/LoL, any other game. The language those players/casters use makes this look like small potatoes.
It's people like you that will kill e-sports. People like you who cry bloody murder whenever anyone in the e-sports scene crosses the street when it doesn't say walk.

Because Tiger was forced to quit golfing and Rush was forced to stop being a windbag.
Oh, wait.

I said this earlier, but the thread is moving so fast I'd like to reiterate:
List of things this whole fiasco is NOT actually about, which nobody really gives a fuck about:
1) whether or not orb is actually racist. Or if using a racial slur in such a way automatically makes someone a racist 2) how "offensive" it is to say racist words on a "personal" stream 3) how the semantics of the word has changed, or how other streamers/casters have used bad words, or how hiphop/creative works may use it
What this is about, why the community has had such a response:
1) race issues are still precedent in today's society and resonate with people. It's pretty clear language is still a very powerful tool 2) professionalism of our community members and their obligation to represent the community responsibly 3) How our gaming culture is evolving into something where our trash talking is more civilized and doesn't use racial or homophobic slurs to strengthen attacks (btw, this is something the "real" mature world arrived at long ago). When a person in the public eye does it, it matters. Whether or not people agree with that (or should agree) is a big hurdle. 4) Ultimately, the recourse is EG's and EG's alone. Personally I think this event itself has been a pretty big linguistic wake up call to a young white nerd who has never dealt with such reality

Now THIS is so true.
That being said, I hope Orb gets a chance to redeem himself.

I'm not sure whats worse, Orb's behavior, or the reaction to it.
The longer this goes on the more the E-Sports elephant crys.

Since you are from Germany, you should try this experiment. Get involved with a large Sc II organization that talks about reaching the mainstream. Then on your stream repeatedly say things like : "fucking cockroach jew" " go get gas chambered" on several occasions. Tell us what happens. You understand the difference between mainstream and a local country club?
