HELLO TEAMLIQUID!
I recently picked up the game Altitude (alt: ISL referral link) again and, upon rediscovering how great of a game it is I also found out how I don't have any friends to play with. *utter dismay* So therefore this blog since there are a great many reasons as to why to pick up this game!
Funtimes!
Altitude seems to be literally designed around fun. I'd compare the looks of the game to that of Worms, with cartoony airplanes shooting cartoony shit at eachother. I'm well aware that the SC community likes to torture itself by picking up a game for which you have to have actual knowledge like Build Orders and What Do These Units Even Do? but none of that is needed for Altitude. The controls are pretty much limited to 1 button for firing gun a, 1 button for firing gun b and 1 button for dropping the bomb. The goal of the game? You control a small fighterplane, pick up a bomb, fly it to enemy territory dodging flak all the while and you dump the bomb on top of the enemy's base. It has an entry level comparable to that of Pong. On top of that, the Free Demo now has all 5 planes available so even downloading the demo you'll get a very good sense of the full game.
Alti appeals to the SC crowd
The seeming easiness of the game doesn't take away from its tactical depth though. It's a teamgame that allows you and your fellow fliers to work together in strategic ways. The gravity mechanics and the variety in maps make sure every game is different and based on your playstyle and the big array of weapons to choose from you can really shape every game you play. Like mentioned above there are 5 different types of plane you can fly, and, like the different races in StarCraft, every plane has its upsides and downsides. Not only are these planes really well balanced among one another, they can also complement one another when you're putting together a team. The game was developed by old school BroodWar players and it shows.
Support the SC scene
TeamLiquid and Altitude share a history. Two of the major Altitude clans have their roots in the TL user base and back in 2009 there even was a TL Altitude League!. Since then, the game has sponsored both a TL Invitational and a TL Open on Teamliquid. Since then, they've sponsored more Starcraft events in the Altitude NationWars and they are the sponsor behind the currently ongoing Altitude ISL. These guys have continued to support the Starcraft scene and the least we can do is try out their game to show our appreciation.
Be cool like me :D
I recently picked this game up again after I noticed them coming out and throwing some money at my beloved Broodwar. I play often enough, usually at evening times (Europe) and it just feels great to get back to this again. There's literally about 4 or 5 gvideoames I actually play, and I'm proud Alti is one of them. Downside is, I need some people to hang out with. There's still a TLnet Altitude channel on Quakenet (#TL.altitude) that I frequent but it's become rather empty. If you do decide to give this game a try feel free to add me and we'll play some games: 7fdd8066-bfb8-4417-8dec-7860abd9042f
That's it from me, going back to playing now. Hope to see some of you around ^^

So I just downloaded this game, been having fun so far.
Is there any reason to spend the 10$ for the full game? Can you unlock everything from just playing?

I believe the current model of the demo is that you can reach level 60, which unlocks all of the perks within the game, but you can't actually use all the perks unless you buy the game.
As a demo, you can still play all five of the planes, but you can only use one of three red perks (weapon loadouts) per plane, and you can only use rubber hull or heavy armour for your green perk, and turbocharger (and maybe ultracapacitor?) for your blue perk.
You can actually be competitive with three of the planes as a demo player, but you miss out on some of the more fun weapon choices.
edit- I would highly recommend buying the game. I'd say it's worth it since I've sunk 923 hours into playing it.

Cool thanks, I may end up purchasing the game but I think I'll fool around with the demo a little more first.

Here is me. Just bought it today because of this blog. Where is the best place to start? Seems like all football games.

10$ is totally worth it. I've put about 250 hours in since beta.
I usually play in Official #1 TBD or The Hideout. But yeah, there's so much football going on >_> If this thread is a bit of a success I'm gonna try and get tec to put the teamliquid server back up

No one has ever told me that they didn't enjoy/continue playing the game after trying it. I love the people who made the game happen, and the game itself. With that said, $10 for endless entertainment of ease is a small price to pay when compared to other lesser luxuries we enjoy every day.

i used to play this when it was free for the weekend this summer. its really really fun, but also a very situational game depending on your mood.

Unfortunately for me all the servers that have decent ping are empty. The only servers with action are always those with 300+ ping zzz. Would love to play it more though. If anyone wants to add me its fractalsonfire.
Is that serial number something you get when you buy it?

I think demo players get one too, you can find it in your account tab.

Man this game is addicting. I have no idea where 4 hours went. I'll definitely buy it when I get home today.

Hmmm, should this go to the Sports & Games section? =P
Anyhow, I had to insta-close after following the link because I'm still at work. Hopefully I'll remember to check it out when I go through the "subscribed threads" list later at home~
