Getting cheap audio equipment

Hey guys,

I have about $250USD to spend on whatever I want at the moment. I'm thinking of getting a PMP - most probably the Cowon J3. There's a J3 for sale on Amazon for about $180, but it's only 8GB (microSD card). Should I get the cheapest one and try to get a big microSD with the remaining money?

The other option is to continue using PowerAMP on my Android (T.T) and get a 64GB microSD card and a portable amp - Fiio E5?

I need suggestions because I'm really new to this business and have never owned an amp before.

Ah snap, I just realised that the equipment that I want on Amazon doesn't ship to Singapore.

hmmmm, well in my opinion, just use the earbuds with your pmp, so no need for amp. Use the leftover money for more space/ better player.

Fiio E5 is a great choice if you want to walk around with your cans though. It wont make a huge difference in sound tbh, might just make it a little louder. IMO you never really need an amp unless you have studio (high impedance) headphones.

order of importance:
music quality (includes soundcard etc) -> headphone quality -> storage space -> amp

Is there anywhere I can get a soundcard for my laptop? I don't think you can change laptop soundcards, but is there a means of improvement?

there are external soundcards you can plug in over usb for example. those work on laptops too. Internal cards is a no-go because they don't have those, notebook sound is integrated onto the motherboard.

Nevermind, come to think of it, I'll just get the FiiO E7 DAC and Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX certified speakers.
