I mean, thats not a big deal right? car accidents and hospitals are just broken bones. But after work I decide to drive to suburban just to see how he was doing. And I was wondering why suburban anyways because there are 2 other closer hospitals. I get there and see Jessi and Walter there. Jessi is crying, but she always cries anyways. Walter is on his laptop. Everybody else is in the cafeteria. Find out he was unconscious since the crash.
It's 10pm at this point, I got out of work at 9:30, and the accident happened around 7:45. Normally the hospital doesn't talk to anybody but family, but luckily Jessi's dad works at suburban as the head ER tech, so he got the surgeon to talk to us. When he said surgeon, there was a little bit of wtf.
And then I heard him say that on a scale from dead to 10, Pablo was at a 1.
Blood pressure issues, but we knew that he didn't have external bleeding because they were all driving in convoy it had to be internal. Bad stuff.
We managed to contact one of his other friends, who had a number for his parents. His parents are actually from Argentina. They were in town for holiday and happy.
12pm the doctor tells me that the good news is Suburban is the trauma hospital in the area, so he is in the right place. Bad news is they had the neurosurgeon come in. Did I mention Pablo is a professional dancer? The friend we got hold of was one of his students. He also instructs.
They aren't normal dance partners, but both are very high level.
Parents being here and not knowing english and seeing a whole group of us is overwhelming. So we went home after getting contact info exchanged.
1:45am. We find out that Pablo passed away at about 130.
The other girl in that video? An-so died a month ago.
I can't get over the fact that it was the most random accident ever. This isn't some kid racing or taking a high powered car out on the freeway. Pabs has been driving fast cars forever, and he wasn't even going fast. It's literally 2 minutes (with the traffic light) from where they started. There was no alcohol involved.
This guy was always had a smile. Always friendly. And now he's gone.
People move away, or have fights, or break up, or whatever. But still this is the fastest and most unexpected way to lose a friend. And this is permanent. I feel like I need to do something. Like it's wrong to just lay here in bed and cry.
God damn Pablo. I miss you.
