Good luck, good luck! Always good to have more Rioters around here. ^^
Working up the totem pole is hard, no doubt about that. Hope it works out for you.
Also, if you get it, get the Wrenchies more privileges, kk? /totally-not-part-of-the-Wrenchy-take-over-Riot-plan
[EDIT]: Re some of the posts about management, I don't think Riku's plan is to get in to Technical Coordinator and then leap into some leadership role but more to work hard, learn on the job and get the required experience to move onto bigger tasks one at a time. So more a long term goal of "want I want to be eventually in the future" than anything else.

If you are completely incompetent, you'll still find it hard to get a job just through personal connections. wrong even if youre completey incompetent connections can still get you a job, something i see quite a bit having a borderline management position on a gigantic construction project the incompetence will just get you fired later (depending on how high up your connection is) but usually not stop you from getting the job, unless the position absolutely 100% requires a specific certification or degree that you dont possess this may be the case in some companies with jobs that dont matter much. but in a company that knows what its doing and is hiring for a real professional job, they invest so much in new hires that there is no way a connection alone will get you a job. it will however put you further down the line depending on the influence of the person referring you. they are still going to interview you and you are still going to have to try. i work in a professional environment and still see this all the time more often than not the interviews are nominal
btw thats also how i got my job, my "interview" was just my prospective boss taking me out to lunch and explaining what id be doing

You probably will get an interview, but I don't really think you will get any where "Job wise" cause you've never really had experience in what they're looking for. Even if it is an entry level position, they style require a lot of experience in the field. I worked for WCG for a few years, MYM and a lot more "gaming companies" and I applied to a lot of positions in what you're looking for and I've never even gotten a call back.
Thanks for your feedback and support.

this pretty much makes you immediately underqualified for the position you are applying to exactly what i was about to say you cant get into a new field of employment straight into a leadership position because you have no idea what you are talking about. i guess if you fuck one of the bosses its possible but who would do that. the fact you are dating a top level designer or something for the company basically makes you a shoe in for the job no matter what happens. in your situation id be more worried about your boyfriend, because if you get hired there, even if you do interview well he will be associated with you, so depending on the size of the company (i have no idea how much staff they have on site) he could get in a lot of shit, atleast from coworkers, if you fuck up.

Yep, that's the plan! ;D
I am happy with being a hard working and learning how the company works before I even consider applying to move up in the company.
Also, I just got a call this monring from a CAD supplier I use often. They requested I give them my resume because people are looking for people trained in their CAD system (it's rare for people coming out of college, but I learned it during an internship). They seemed very eager to present me to companies that use their products, so I may just be going into engineering with this high demand.

Good luck with your application! I think your interview will be a walkover but a little bit more luck never hurt right?? Fighting!

From my experience it is one of the best ways to get good employees.

What kind of engineering have you studied?

Haha, that's kind of a hard question to answer.
At my college, we are required to become proficient in all forms of engineering, as more than one is generally needed for any project. I've focused my studies in mechanical engineering, but I've taken:
Engineering Design • Intro to Computer Science • Robotics • Structural Mechanics • Mechanics & Wave Motion • Engineering Systems • Electromagnetic Theory & Optics • Experimental Engineering • Chemical & Thermal Processes • Design Representation & Realization • Electric and Magnetic Circuits • Digital, Electric & Computer Engineering • Advanced Engineering Systems • Continuum Mechanics • Cost Estimation and Modeling • Project Management • Materials Engineering
Next semester I'm taking Structural Mechanics, Computer Music and Principles of Computer Science (along with some humanities courses and a sort of Engineering internship class).

I fixed it for me.
Gl with your application. Since Riot is basically exploding since LoL is getting popular, I think youll have good chances.

And, yeah, they certainly are popular. @.@ I've heard the numbers from Serif and they are absolutely ridiculous! It's starting to make WoW's community look small.

If you get the interview, you should totally make a new costume and wear it to the interview. Something kick ass and a bit formal at the same time like Aristocrat Vayne. Anyways, good luck and I hope you get the job, I'll be hounding you for free skins.

Very cool!
I only meant to ask if you did Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering but I wasn't that specific. EDIT, forgot to say I've done Mechanical Engineering myself.
Anyway, I enjoy reading your blogs.
I hope you get the job and have alot of fun at Riot Games.
P.S. Do you have a 3D printer at college? You should be able to print some cool stuff for your cosplay.

We do have a 3D printer, but the costs of using it are absolutely absurd. >.<

What sort of leadership position are you looking for though, if you don't really have work experience or a related degree yet? By the looks of it you'd get an entry-level position right?

I'm assuming it's entry level, but it seems to pay well.
I know someone who is currently working in the position I applied for and didn't have a degree at all nor related work experience.

Ah, I guess I was just wondering like, are you expecting to lead a small team of CM's or something? Or do you expect to be one of those CM's yourself.
|
Man I wish I knew someone who could get me a job. It's literally impossible to get a job even for people with a degree right now in CA. And you have like no experience and really no related school courses and you just know someone to get you in. epitome of what you know vs who you know.
good luck.
ps- get me a job

I think I will be coordinating the communication and progress of a few different departments. I probably will just be checking to see if everyone is on track, make sure the right information gets handed off and things like that.

I know someone who got my resume reviewed, not "got me in."
As for experience, I have quite a lot of experience, including four different major engineering projects (one for LANL, one for Mazda) and two internships where I had to do project management regularly. Not to mention, I was in the Army ROTC program, which looks pretty for leadership roles.

well then, I stand corrected.
