I finally sent in my full application to Riot Games.
I'm excited, nervous and a little scared!
While I have been studying to be an engineer, I have also been taking project management and cost estimation and modeling courses. I am hoping I can get a leadership position at Riot Games. I am so in love with their company because of their great policies, attitude and creations! Not only is League of Legends an absolutely amazing game, but Riot is a great company for their policy that all players are equal and important, paying or not. Not to mention, they are also a bunch of fun loving rascals that will be as amazing as friends as they are as coworkers!
I revised, reviewed, edited and reedited my cover letter so many times that I thought my eyes would bleed! I must have spent 4 hours editing the finished product last night and spent another hour this morning before I was satisfied. Now it's off and sent and all I can do is bite my nails and wait!
While I've had internships and casual jobs before, this is my first time applying for a professional position! I wouldn't be as stressed if it was for an engineering company, because I know what to expect in those regards. This is just so complete new to me, I have no clue what I'm in for or what I'll be asked!

If I do get an interview, I'm probably going to die from excitement and nervousness. Certainly, I could get a better paying job, but working for such an amazing company on video games would absolutely be a dream come true!!!

Good luck, I had to make a tough call a few years back over entering the gaming industry or more boring software development. I chose the latter after concerns that if things went bad it would sour video games for me.
So if you get a position, don't let that happen to you!

I thought it was commonplace for people to get hired privately (through relatives, husbands, friends etc)

Haha, I'm not sure that'd be such a bad thing! I'd have so much more free time if I didn't play games all day!

good luck. I can't see riot doing anything but good things with you. God I'd love to get a job too XD. I think that having a job where they let you chose your "company name" like riot.Tryndamere being the ceo is an insanely good job.

Yeah, according to my Project Management class, something like 60% of people are employed through non-official methods (i.e. not from a posted a job opening).

Well, Serif works in a secluded little room attached to the server room, while I'd be working upstairs in the halls of cubicles. We probably wouldn't see each other much at work, because he also works in the evenings.

I was at a programming club and one of the guy's mom was offering "paid internships" 1 in las vegas and 2 in jersey. Its funny because the details about it was for a full time job with 50k a year and benefits.
It makes sense though. Hireing people you don't know isn't a good as someone that your friend or family member can vouch that hes not a secret terrorist or a drug kingpin looking for some legitimate income.

Yep. The last company I saw the inside of, they were obligated to post openings for a set number of jobs every so often. Already know who you want to hire? Too bad, post it anyway and ignore the responses. Don't actually have any openings? Too bad, post a bunch of jobs you aren't actually hiring anyone for and ignore the responses. A large percentage of the actual new hires were for positions that were never posted anywhere, though they were professional contacts of employees and not just relatives or friends of employees.
