Currently I'm looking at Technical Coordinator. In terms of experience and education, I'm a little overqualified for the position, but I hope to use it as a footing for moving up the management chain.

Be careful with emphasizing overqualifications. I know a lot of employers that do not hire these types because they may grow to expect more. You want to work up into management, but I'm pretty sure everyone in management wants to do the same. Therefore hiring an overqualified candidate is hiring someone who may end up with the job you want. In the imperfect world we live in this could be enough for a rejection.

I trust you know the job requirements back and forth by now. If I were you I'd head into an interview scenario talking about how you could rock out that position. They're not looking for someone who is awesome on all fronts - they're looking for someone who can do the job well and benefit the company. It's not about 'you' as much as it is about 'them benefiting from you'.

By the by, a great deal of engineers (in my field especially (chemical)) use a bachelor degree to fast-track themselves into a management position. From supervisors to technical managers to project managers: these are the positions one "moves up" to and they have more in common with a business degree. In a way it's really not that unusual you're applying for something like this.

Also consider image. When you work for someone everything you say and do becomes associated with them. The fishbowl philosophy shows you in many ways how your actions have consequences. Take your cosplay posts, for instance. It's not difficult for a potential employer to do some digging and find them. Some might say "cute costume; I'm glad she has hobbies". Others might say "she looks like a total slut, I don't want someone like that representing our company". You've made a name for yourself on a number of websites. No one is squeaky clean, but realize that the little things make the difference. Things like this may not mean a huge deal for a random plant or engineering firm, but you're gunning for a gaming company where your internet presence could play a big factor.

Overall, good luck

Haha, I only emphasized I was an eager and willing candidate. When I say I'm overqualified, it's for reasons like they don't require a degree for the position, but here I am with an engineering degree and an emphasis in management. Overqualified is really not the right term. I'm just way more qualified than their minimum requirements.

Considering my cosplay is for their company, I'm not sure I'll have too many issues with that. As for the rest, I'm not worried about it.

They don't "get you in" per se.

Yes they do, in the real world connections go far. I got both my current jobs just because I was 'known'. No resume or interview process or anything.

Aye, aye, jackass, whatever you say.

A passion for gaming, especially League of Legends
Excellent organizational, communication and prioritization skills
An interest in technology, game development and/or project management/production
A collaborative and positive attitude
Must be a self-starter and take initiative with little direction
Desire to learn new skills, technology and methodologies

Best of luck! But wouldnt they require some on the job experience for something like a project co-ordinator? Thats a fairly important post, and even in normal software engineering, you'd need about 2-3 years experience as a programmer to get a position like that.

Edit: Okay just read the post above mine. But..I havent really seen anyone without experience on that type of job.

The coordinator position is much lower on the totem pole than it seems. It's an entry position.

No need to call him a jackass, because hes actually kinda right, in your OP you said:
I am hoping I can get a leadership position at Riot Games.

it's not till later you said you were going for a lower position to work your way up.

Management jobs you usually need some better credentials for

Don't call him a jackass because he's just pointing out that you provide not enough information to actually comprehend why you think you are overqualified and give just enough information to let us think you have no experience in such a position so that you might as well be underqualified... It just sounds weird, nothing more.

However, I wish you, whether you're under/over/we qualified or what not, good luck and that you'll end up having the position you desire. If you put the work into it you deserve it!

Yes, but I did make known it was a starting position before his post. Admittedly, I was a little irritable at the time and people not reading what I say and then criticizing me for the lack of it tends to get under my skin.

I think he was trying to say they get your foot in the door, but don't guarantee you the job. If you are completely incompetent, you'll still find it hard to get a job just through personal connections.

wrong
even if youre completey incompetent connections can still get you a job, something i see quite a bit having a borderline management position on a gigantic construction project
the incompetence will just get you fired later (depending on how high up your connection is) but usually not stop you from getting the job, unless the position absolutely 100% requires a specific certification or degree that you dont possess

Meh, there's a lot more people that are really over qualified for these kind of positions. You probably will get an interview, but I don't really think you will get any where "Job wise" cause you've never really had experience in what they're looking for. Even if it is an entry level position, they style require a lot of experience in the field. I worked for WCG for a few years, MYM and a lot more "gaming companies" and I applied to a lot of positions in what you're looking for and I've never even gotten a call back.

this may be the case in some companies with jobs that dont matter much. but in a company that knows what its doing and is hiring for a real professional job, they invest so much in new hires that there is no way a connection alone will get you a job. it will however put you further down the line depending on the influence of the person referring you. they are still going to interview you and you are still going to have to try.

exactly what i was about to say

you cant get into a new field of employment straight into a leadership position because you have no idea what you are talking about. i guess if you fuck one of the bosses its possible but who would do that.

the fact you are dating a top level designer or something for the company basically makes you a shoe in for the job no matter what happens. in your situation id be more worried about your boyfriend, because if you get hired there, even if you do interview well he will be associated with you, so depending on the size of the company (i have no idea how much staff they have on site) he could get in a lot of shit, atleast from coworkers, if you fuck up.
