For example, Zerg has the capability to expand quickly, and loosely speaking, an n + 1 base Zerg is about as strong as a n base Protoss or Terran. This translates into having weak low base strategies. Terran doesn't expand as quickly as Zerg but generally expands faster than Protoss. In TvZ, I think it's fair to accept that a lower base Terran is as strong as a slightly more base Zerg (maybe one more base, not necessarily fully saturated). I don't know PvT as well but save the 1-1-1 all in, Terran seems to need the extra bases for the army to keep up with the Protoss army. Protoss is a race that's slow to expand. But it must compete somehow, right? They're just stronger off less bases. These differences might be bases on mobility and the way each race constructs their town hall (300 mins for Zerg, 400 for Terran but it can float, 400 for Protoss but must be built at site.) Thus, I'm okay with Protoss being strong off one base/fewer bases. Though it's annoying on small maps. Looking at games on larger maps in the GSL, generally Protoss is equal or one base ahead of Terran. At least this is what I have noticed recently. For example, on one of the recent PvTs on the largest map Calm Before the Storm, I think I saw a Protoss on 4 or 5 bases and the Terran was just getting his fourth, was on 3 for a while. The longer the game goes, it seems Protoss expands more than Terran, it's just that the games usually do not go that long and often Terrans can get their 3rds up quicker than a Protoss. What it really has to do with cost efficiency of units. I saw a game PvZ between HerO and a Zerg that had a split map Metalopolis, and the reason it was ok for the Zerg (who admittedly ended up losing eventually) was that the Protoss was doing damage, but inefficiently with lots of Dark Templars and Zealots. This necessitated more bases, and the Zerg could remain on equal bases while not losing the game for a long time. So I think it's more about composition than about number of bases. Zergs have generally less cost efficient units so they need more bases.

MMA beat MVP in the Winners Bracket 2-0 and knocked him down to Losers bracket. White-Ra did the same to Naniwa. Both MVP and Naniwa came back with revenge and managed to beat them in the extended series.

The finals of the global invitational are pretty much a kickoff tournament for the the whole MLG. They will be played live from Providence, RI.
