I feel like this "widely respected community member throws a hissy fit and leaves because a few people were mean to him/her" cliché happens every so often in every online community ever. It's quite silly. Milkis has done a lot for the community, and I appreciate that. It will be a shame if he's really gone for good. But just like I will tell a good friend if they are being stupid in a moment, I have no qualms about saying that Milkis is being stupid right now. Thanks for everything Milkis, but please don't leave just because some people are idiots. If Rebecca Black, a 13-year-old junior high student, could keep her head up and be proud after the entire internet spent weeks ridiculing her, then so can you.
Not only the internet, but her whole school. She had to be homeschooled, it was so bad.

but its because they were flaming him for trying to use the fact that he speaks korean as an excuse to make people care about his idiotic opinions once again. good riddance indeed.
lmao flawless execution.
its a shame that Milkis acted like a child as a result of something he even admitted was his mistake. oh well.

Life Lesson: When something you love, or something offends you...just fucking quit. Tell the kids folks.

His translations were never good; none of them made much sense to me relative to the questions asked.

Whenever someone tried to ask any of the Korean players for an autograph, he would have the most "dickish" way to reject the fans.
I tried asking for Boxer's autograph there when he was with a girl translator and her response was simply, "I'm sorry, he can't do any autographs right now." I tried asking for Incontrol and Tyler's autograph even when they went 0-5 in their pool play and their responses were all along the lines of "sorry, I can't do that right now, maybe later."
However, when I tried to go up to MKP for his autograph, instead of Milkis just saying "sorry no autographs" or something like that, his response was yelling "NO! STOP! NO!" in the most obnoxious way and basically treated me like the scam of the earth. Now at first I thought maybe I just caught them at a bad moment, but later I found out all my friends who attended the event (there were around 30 of them) had a similar experience with Milkis sometime or another during the event.
Naturally, I understand that the Korean players are the most popular for autographs at the event and it's the translator's job to make sure they don't get swarmed. However, there's different ways to approach the issue (even when you are under stress). If the other translators can calmly, and nicely reject the fans, why shouldn't Milkis be held to the same standard? Heck, even Incontrol and Tyler, who both were something around 4-18 the last 3 MLGs as programmers can still talk to the fans calmly.
After MLG, I just can't help but feel like he's an elitest asshole that doesn't truly care about the fans and only likes the positive attention he gets from doing it. However, even though I do not like his attitude, I do respect all the translation + work he's done so I hope him the best in whatever he does in the future.
EDIT: Just as a disclaimer, I made sure I didn't go up to players at bad times like right before or after they played a game for autographs. I tried as hard as possible to go find time at a time when they weren't really doing anything and everytime I asked I tried to be as nice + non-forceful as possible. Not sure why milkis would reply this way, people don't want his autograph... why is he getting so worked up? Might have to do with him being very exhausted...
oh well.. he seems very unhappy in what he does so prob better if he moves on to something else

if you're too thin skinned for the public, then it probably is best you get out from behind the spotlight. i've enjoyed your contributions to the scene, and want to thank you for doing all you have. good luck in your future endeavors. as some advice though, what people say or think about you doesn't matter. it's what you think of yourself that does. take care Milkis.

The vocal minority ruins it for everyone again.
This is why we can't have nice things

oh come on. act like an adult. you're like a 5 year old

Sorry to see you go. You were a good translator, but there will be others, and like all of us, you will be missed and then forgotten.

Gosh, in milkis' first MLG i thought he was a real swell guy, a great volunteer for esports. Slowly somehow my opinion on him changed, I don't know, I lean towards him being "over entitled" now he seemed to get proud, which was not the milkis i thought he was. I loved your first MLG blog, it was full of insight. The second one pails in comparison, so much you forgot and said you were tired. I mean I understand that it's exhausting but damn, stop beating us over the head with it. Man up, be more humble

I read this and I agree, I've never been to any MLG, any opinion i have of milkis is of reddit/TL

You stupid dickwads in SC2 community have to shit talk anyone that's presented as a loser. As a Korean watching when Milkis translates, I can say that he does proficiently well (he even knows how to articulate those phrases that are usually lost in translation).

well if you are going to cry about being called a few names on the internet you don't belong there... I'm sure there are tons of other Korean- American people that can translate that are willing to do this.

Hahahaha, he had the best comment in this thread imo.
I really wish you wouldn't give up on translating cause it's such an important part of the community =(
