what the fuck was motivating him in the first place then? i can't understand how milkis assumes a few people on twitter and reddit = the entire community this is gonna sound harsh but if a few douchebags on twitter and reddit are the deciding factor in your decision to quit doing the things you're passionate about, then clearly you weren't passionate about it in the first place. there are hundreds of other translators out there who would probably love to be in your position right now. also, stop feeling so entitled to a lack of criticism just because you've contributed to the community. everyone who watches mlg watches your work and most people love it, but you are bound to be criticized at some point. if you think you're the perfect translator and god's gift to e-sports then you have even bigger problems. you're a good guy and you don't deserve the nastiness portrayed by some people on reddit and twitter. however, if you actually leave because 1% of the community flamed you, that's one of the most pathetic things i'll ever hear in my entire life

They're one of the few types of posters with an actual skill, and they get heaps of attention for it, but in the back of their mind I can't help but guess they're thinking "not enough... I'm the only person on these boards who actually contributes something tangible."

Day[9] has said that he avoids hate threads and this is why. People are going to hate, we, as a community, just love to pitchfork people - but that is the thing the collective 'we', don't it is the few that do. We are a community of thousands. Hates are just asshats. Take some time and, if you are ready, come back. I think you will find that the community really appreciates you. Focus on the good and f*ck the hate(rs).

That said, if you make a flame-bait post on reddit in a forum where you're bashing what most of the people on that forum care about, people will respond to it, both by refuting your opinion in a decent manner and by just flaming (it is the internet after all). I don't see how this could have turned out any differently, or how Milkis couldn't have seen this coming..

You are far from professional and very unlikable, every time you did something that someone disagreed with you had to make a blog to get the whole sites validation that you did the right thing. People like Rachel are something special that I value in the community, but like I said you have more negative assets then positive and you wont be hard to replace. I kind of agree with this sentiment, he always felt very entitled in this community for just being a translator. Thats all he was, and he posts some massive rant about brood war being so much better as if anybody actually cares about his opinion.

I wasn't going to write anything but then I remembered that I've benefited from a lot of work that he's given me freely. Keep in mind that Milkis has contributed WAY more to the community than he's taken away. If you think he's making a mistake by posting this and leaving, then you should try to imagine what comment you could write here to get him to change his mind and make him feel comfortable returning and doing more translations. Simply pointing out that it's a mistake is not very helpful =/ Tyler is right! Milkis deserves more than this for all he's done in the past couple months!
