yeah this is so gonna happen

I don't know what to think about this, I guess if they did it just right then it would be fantastic, but the chances of that seem slim in today's "casual haven". I'll say this, if they can convince all four of those guys going (lol) to switch one day to this new BW then I surely will drop SC2 since if top players did and somehow everything was turned from BW into BW 2.0, including all the tournaments etc. I think if some genius of common sense was the head of this then it would work, it is a great concept. But at the end of the day most people that play BW at all anymore love the graphics etc.
Convincing newcomers to switch to a game that doesn't do things like mine for them etc. would be pretty hard I imagine. Not because they "can't" play it but because they don't "want" to have to exert that extra time to take that little proberuskie and put him on the job along with learning to control the very rude ass units that never want to go through chokes without assistance. If it was cheap and done perfectly though it would be excellent. As you pointed out no LAN would probably be what would happen to help there piracy issue and from tons of new servers popping up.
Basically in a perfect world it would work, but in this one I doubt it, which is lame. :/

I'm so confused and horny, middle school all over again.

I haven't heard this rumor but it sounds amazing.

I would really, really like this. If Blizzard is planning to do this then I think there is a good chance that Blizzard actually talked with these pro's to find out what they want the game to become.
I guess these pro's also don't want HD BW to become just like SC2 ofcourse. It's just going to be Brood War again but just with updated graphics.

It also sounds improbable.

I'm only mildly excited, even if this comes to fruition. I'm happy with BW's current engine and graphics, so the only way an HD BW would help a BW fan like me is possibly attracting new fans and growing the community. However the best implementation would remain so hardcore that it would deter new fans.
BW's balance is also almost inextricable from the specifics of its engine, so a version in a new engine would need to be rebalanced entirely... or simply remain quite different from the original.

Indeed. I feel like Blizzards only rationale for this is to cash in on the BW market, and that certainly is not going to be allowed to happen... especially after the lawsuit. (They were not just sueing MBC but rather the entire BW scene in Korea.)
|
This sounds unlikely. Even if it were to be made I find it unlikely that the korean scene would have much interest in it, I think they are pretty happy with the game as it is.
I dont see what market blizzard would be appealing to with this game, the people who like broodwar will still play broodwar and the people who want a shinier game will play SC2.

I wonder if a HD remix would still include all the AI and interface glitches that made BW the way it is?
I'm sure that for Super Street Fighter HD Remix they pretty much just replaced the sprites/sound, and the engine underneath was the same, right?
Hopefully that's that a BW HD version would be like. BW without things like Muta stacking isn't really BW is it

How would this be different than SC2BW? That already exists. It's a custom map.
|
But then a terrifying thought came into my mind, "What if blizzard 'modernizes' BW"? What mean by 'modernize' is, add and remove feature from the original game to better serve the casual audience such as: 1) unlimited units in control groups 2) buildings in control groups 3) auto mine 4) better AI stuff like that
I... Think I got the joke? That's pretty neat! Good job :D

I bet they change a bunch of units too
I don't really see the need for reavers anymore, but I did like watching War of the Worlds...

There's nothing wrong with Broodwar. To me graphics just don't matter. I don't understand why anyone would think Broodwar needs a HD remake.
Super Mario World on the SNES is one of the best games ever made in my opinion. Making it prettier wouldn't make it any more playable.

Without diving into the details too much, SC2BW is an imperfect copy. There are things about the BW engine that you just can't translated into the Sc2 one because of how they are designed. For example, it's impossible to perfectly mimic the size of BW buildings in sc2, because how the size of gaps between buildings are determined is different. Likewise, goon pathing in Sc2BW is bad, but it's not bad in the same way.

Is this really what we want? I love the brood war graphics because its so easy to understand whats going on. Everything is really easy to see(except when units stack up, mutas).
