No, this is not a joke/trolling thread. We don't need more filler posts asking if it is. Remember to spoiler season 6 content, and clearly label your spoilers.

+ Show Spoiler + First off, the notion of "derp too much fanservice" is completely wrong. Remember that they've been working on the season 2 stuff before the fandom exploded, so shit like "hey they made an Epic Cupcake Time reference with Rainbowglasses" (possibly not the best example, but you know what I mean) is wildly inaccurate. What I really don't get is all the paranoia around the whole "zomg they're going over the top" thing. The season 2 pilot wasn't batshit over the top, even S1E26 wasn't. Yeah, it had its moments, but it was the season closer. This episode was a continuously-ramping episode of pure insanity. The classic humour and expressions used were appropriate, IMO, since a big selling point for the episode is insanity. They won't make every episode like this. Remember, these are the exact same people that created the first season. One of Lauren's biggest complaints AFAIK was the "e/i" restriction on the episodes, limiting what they could do. With that gone, it gave them the freedom to do cool shit, so now we can see it. I'm sure episodes will bring back that classic charm that made us love MLP so very much. I can see episode 5 being a prime example of this. Remember that although she left the show, she reviewed the scripts for season 2 before fully removing herself from it, so we won't see any true "post-Faust" episodes until 2012. Love it or hate it, it's a memorable and unique episode. Following the season 2 opener, it really sets the tone for an epic set of episodes. Yeah, there's a metric shit ton of hyperbole, but that's what really makes the episode IMO. Regarding the whole "too extreme for kids" argument, do you not remember kids movies from our youth? Land Before Time, anyone? There have been some downright sad and scary moments in movies aimed at a similar target age range to MLP. The thing is, super sad/scary shit in content for this age group is perfectly fine AS LONG as it gets resolved somehow. The episode ends on a positive note, just like the rest of MLP (except the very first episodes of seasons, because they're in a 2 parter). Finally, there are multiple types of MLP episodes. I'm pretty sure we're not going to see half of season 2 be "insanity" episodes. Studio B isn't dumb, they know that episodes like this one are best used sparingly. We'll have some scary episodes, some adventure, some sappy ones, etc. Besides, all this worrying/speculation won't do shit for us. The season's pretty much finished in production AFAIK, as I'm pretty sure they're beginning work on season 3 right now. These guys are in tune with the fanbase and won't give us true fanservice beyond little things like Derpy in the train in the new opener (which I like, the song is less girly, but almost identical, save for greatly improved audio quality and a few seconds of new animation). All we can do is sit back and enjoy the ride. Worrying about it will only put a damper on the whole experience.

I'm gonna join the boat of 'it [mostly] isn't canon'. I feel like it makes much more sense that it was Twilight's perception changing around stuff here and there; it almost feels like the entire episode was a dream to me. If anything, i did catch how the developers started acknowledging the brony-centric fanbase way too much. I personally like it because it is a good girl show, with all its cuteness and character driven story. If i wanted to watch crazy people messing up I would watch another show. And Twilight, my favorite pony of them all! This wasn't her! *hides in denial*

While Pinkie, who is prone to socialize and create several situations for her friends changes herself when losing her mind, Twilight tries to change the exterior to fit her inner madness. This same effect occurs on S01E10 "Swarm of the Century", where she gets to the point of suggesting rebuilding the ville just for Celestia. It is also very consistent with her character: She is overly organizational and pragmatic(As seen in 01x09 "Look Before you sleep" and 01x11 "Winter Wrap Up") and seeks for intense approval of her teacher(01x01 "Friendship is Magic Part 01", 01x10 "Swarm of the Century") as well as she easily thinks of the worst situation possible for whatever is going on, when Celestia is involved(01x22 "A Bird in the Hoof"). It is also consistent with Rarity's complex character, which follows not one but two stereotypes: Either generous and friendly or whiny and dramatic(See 01x19 "A Dog and a Pony Show", or 01x21 "Green isn't your color" for a clearer look at her double stereotype. You can also use 01x02 for the first, and 01x01 for the second). And Fluttershy is not wrong either: although it may look odd, many times nearly breaking a neck is the best way to fix a neck/column pain. I do it all the time, everyone who swam competitively with me did it all the time, Fluttershy as the carer she is knows that as well, and just helped the bear. I mean, I thought it was pretty obvious, in the end is was just a kind of physiotherapy. It just looked odd before, but that scene was perfectly fine. Nope, this episode was actually perfectly fine. Surely Twilight went over-crazy, but that's the whole point. I bet 02x04 and 02x05 will have much less craziness, seeing how they are Luna and Rarity/Sweetie Belle centered episodes. Now *channels inner Photo Finish* I GO + Show Spoiler + You are correct. I don't think the characteristics shown by Twilight and Rarity in this episode are new and strange, but I do think they are taken to levels uncharacteristic of the two. 01x10: Twilight has a momentary crazy idea when Ponyville is almost destroyed before Celestia's visit, vs 02x03: Twilight goes crazy for ~10 minutes and indirectly hurts ponies because an assignment is late -- she adores her teacher and wants to be organized, but this episode felt too far. 01x19: Rarity whines as a conversational tactic and to get the better of someone, vs 02x03: Rarity whines because frankly anything in the world has happened (misplacing an item? Really?) -- the noble attitude is a facade but usually a more persistent one. I suppose with Fluttershy it was the screaming and angry faces that seemed out of character, but the gag's punch relied on those. I'm sure a similar joke could have been found that kept Fluttershy more in character. To be fair, when I see Fluttershy being crazy kung-fu aggressive in fanart I laugh my ass off and enjoy it because it contrasts so sharply with canon, and it was funny in this episode, but the writers should beware because this is canon.

Twilight changes the whole town just for the princess, it's not about the situation, it's about her teacher. Same thing on 01x22, where she suggests that Fluttershy would be banished and locked down to the place she was banished to. It's part of her character to extremely overreact when she feels something isn't right when concerning Celestia. I do agree that Rarity was over the top on her whining, but hey, that was the joke right? Doing it once won't hurt. I have to say that her "uh-huh" after finding the ribbon cracked me up hard. And in defense of Fluttershy, it is very hard to maintain a cute face when you are trying to snap the neck of a bear

SpeccSY, an amazing artist and mad lover of the Flutter/Pinkie shipping, just finished a series of a 14 page comic that is simply AMAZING. Disclaimer: I hate shipping, but these stories and fanarts are just too damn good. http://speccysy.deviantart.com/art/Sight-for-Really-Sore-Eyes-1-255435302 You can follow the next pages on DA itself, the links are right below the page. Prepare for tons of D'aaaaw And you've been warned: contains heavy Shipping. Nothing NSFW, just plain ol' cute romance.

+ Show Spoiler + I for one think the episode was in character for Twighlight Sparkle, we saw an extreme side of Pinkie Pie in party of one, and now we see an extreme side of Twighlight Sparkle, its presented differently and Twighlight way of coping is completely different for obvious reasons, they are not the same ponies! I don't think the entire season will be like that episode at all, but really I think it was a good episode and not really all that different from season 1 episodes if you consider them on an episode by episode basis rather than in its entirety edit example: Take Dragonshy for example in season 1, Rarity is a bitch, fluttershys annoying, rainbow dash is kinda an asshole are the sort of conclusions that could be drawn from taking 1 episode and looking at it really closely rather than considering the entire show.

People are watching season 2 and are finding the image of Jesus in their toast. It's honestly that simple. JT explicitly said there won't be any fanservice beyond stuff like more Derpy. I don't know why so many people are harping on "fanservice" in the recent episodes. If it's a reference to something, it's there because the team making the show wanted to make the joke amongst and for themselves, not in acknowledgement of the bronies.
