ok I'll stop shitting on everything now. Great for T-ara, guess the sexy cat concept really does work there...although I admit I'd love it if my cat randomly turned into T-ara as well. I'd really like to see some unbiased analysis of how these groups are doing in Japan- AKP just translates Korean articles and they're always biased towards the "these groups are big" kind of thing, so I have no real way of knowing if any of the groups' so-called accomplishments are actually big or anything. edit- yeah casual clothing is great alot of the time, remember Ma Boy when they performed/practiced in jeans and t-shirts, love the Bubble pop practice video, and the best Bubble Pop stage outfit was that white tank/jean shorts one.

Well for T-ara they broke SNSD's record of debut week sales. So take what you will about how big that is lol. edit- yeah comparisons to Japanese debuts/if Japan is really all into Hallyu like Korean news sites make them out to be. Like, are they getting first while big artists are promoting or was it like the Infinite/Davichi wins on music shows where they only won cause no real big groups were promoting?

Also, how does Kara do in relation to Japanese artists?

As for Hallyu in Japan, SNSD was the 5th most searched for music on Yahoo there for September, TVXQ was 9th, Kara was 13th SNSD's album has sold over 600k which I think is like 3rd or 4th or something for all artists in Japan this year. AKB is a major outlier though with well over a million because of that stupid ass voting thing. T-ara's debut is being pretty well received I think. edit: YG released a statement about GD. Relevant: "There was a drinking event to celebrate a successful concert with various Japanese associates who visited us at the concert location. When G-Dragon went to use the restroom, a young person who seemed to be a Japanese fan recognized G-Dragon and offered him a cigarette as he greeted him. Out of courtesy, G-Dragon took two or three puffs, but upon feeling that it was different from normal cigarettes, he flushed it down the toilet right away." I can't believe this isn't a troll, it's so absurd.

But goddamn I wish they'd go back and do stuff like their debuts instead of going "LOL RETRO IS POPULAR NOW LETS DO IT" dammit CCM edit- I could see one puff, but several? The first one "hey this isn't tobacco but...w/e" lol probably couldn't say 1 cause there wouldn't have been enough weed/whatever in his hair. If this means that Top/Taeyang get more solo shit to do then I'm cool with it though lol.

My sister teaches @ Yokohama Int. School in Tokyo. She said the most noticeable hallyu groups of this wave are SNSD and Kara. But both cater to completely different demographics. The soshis have a lot of fan-girls and have a wider range of fans in terms of age. KARA on the other hand have a LOT LOT of fan boys and are more popular to teens. Not too sure about the other girl groups, seems like if too many idols stage their japanese debuts in the same season, the market might be too over congested of Korean groups. On the other side of the spectrum, CN Blue is just generally loved. Last time I talked to her about this was last month so I'm not sure how well T-ara is doing. She's not a big sone, more of a blackjack, but she went to the concert at Tokyo and said she's never attended a concert like it. So although AKP sounds super biased, you can say that the hype they create is fairly close to how it is. I haven't seen it myself but I'm visiting her after I finally stop slaving in law school during winter break so maybe I can shed some more light then. Oh and ... DBSK is STILL huge as well (how can I forget). (we both lived most of our teen lives in a base in Korea, so we just generally love all kpop - though as you can see I'm die hard sone =P) Edit: This is ofcourse a bystander's account. Not sure in term's of charts or sales .. just what my sister sees and observes between her students and just the general populous. Double Edit: @Dystopia: lol ya although I really liked GD&TOP, having another Taeyang solo album would be nice. It's just a shame though because its obvious these artists work hard and sometimes slave themselves to achieve what they have - all to be thrown away for something that is blown out of proportion. I don't endorse or support what he did, but fck man its GD... hes baller. Hard to stay away from that stuff when you're that big. He's also generally nice T_T donates to charity all the time.

Cause if you listen to them they're just as big as the biggest Japanese pop stars, which always sounded weird to me. Also, how does Kara do in relation to Japanese artists? If T-ara had released a week before, they would be only #3 I just discovered. Timing really matters. Kara are not really close to the big names of the Japanese market, but they're in the mix with everyone else. Kara's singles sell in the 200-300k range. Girl's Talk has done 265k this year (432,955 total). They're pretty well accepted. Pretty close to numbers that good Japanese artists do. @Moonwrath, its 5th, just behind Lady Gaga last I checked. Found it. Album sales for 2011 so far. (not 100% accurate) AKB is 805k Arashi is 791k Exile is 730k GAGA is 619k SNSD is 606k

from AKP "The boys’ agency, YG Entertainment is also struggling as Big Bang is their biggest source of income. According to their annual reports, 27.98% of their total revenue for the first half of the year was from Big Bang’s concerts alone. If you include their album sales and endorsements, it goes beyond 50% of the total revenue mark. With the band’s temporary cease of activities, it’s no doubt that the company will have a sharp drop in revenue in the latter half of the year. Analysts have shared that if G-Dragon gets his name blacklisted from broadcasting companies, it may be the very end of Big Bang."

Had me cracking up quite a bit. And in all honesty, it feels like a really weak excuse from YG to blame it on some random Japanese person. But then again, status buys freedom.

Well screw all this shit and let's start talking about some real music, Qualification of Men style! I suggest you watch all of the show, I don't know how to convince you to watch the few (8) episodes but this should be the right teaser(?) It's amazing, truly. The special thing about it is that it's very real and I find it to have all the attributes a proper show should have. + Show Spoiler + This isn't actually the show but I thought that other vids would spoil the show These episodes are actually a year old and I'm almost sure some of you have seen it and that the greatness has been discussed and shared here. I just want to share it with those that didn't. And if you are interested in the show: http://ithetimes.wordpress.com/kbs2-qualificatins-of-men-eng-sub/ "Choir" episodes except for ”Quit smoking, English Test, Parade, Choir” because it shows nothing.
