Keep any SC2 vs BW comments out of this thread. This is a thread about Brood War and Esports (Tekken Crash, Special Forces, etc) in general. If you discuss what this means for ESPORTS be sensitive about it. |

On the positive side though, the Koreans always seem to announce things at the last possible moment, So I wouldn't be surprised if the official word, whether it be more MSL, no MSL , or replacement MSL, came out before the end of this one.

In what way is the move obvious?

I feel for all BW players, this is like wc3 being taken out of blizzcon.

Whoever thinks BW progamers will switch over to SC2 is mistaken.
BW isn't a game that progamers play as a hobby, it's their job. Their job isn't to play the newest game on the shelf, it's to play BW. Do you think that progamers who invested their youth into it will let go of BW and say, "Hey SC2 looks fun, maybe I can make a living out of that." I doubt it.
Veteran progamers who have nothing to cling onto other than BW or progamers who have close connection with Boxer will maybe switch over but the majority of progamers I think will just give up on the whole progaming thing like Yellow. Plus, the majority of progamers still go to school so it would be wise for them to focus on their education rather than investing their time into a whole new different game. Progamers know how tough the competition is in the progaming scene and it's not an easy decision for them to make like foreign progamers.
Death of MBCgame -> Disbanding of Proteams ->Imminent death of BW Progaming Scene -> GG BW -> GL HF SC2 While it lasts.
To make it clear for SC2 Fans: The only chance (the only likely) SC2 had for making itself big was the Korean BW scene. If by some chance the Korean BW industry picked up SC2 and made a slow switch over to the new game, this 'global SC2 Esports' joke would atleast have a solid pillar for support. Instead, SC BW in Korea was hacked by an axe and what you SC2 fans don't realize is that SC2 is not a separate tree from BW, but just a branch of the Korean ESports tree built on top of BW.
EDIT:

But what Achromic said is pretty much the summary of all the credible source-based articles and threads here on TL regarding this situation that's been posted over the duration of the past year or so (credible sources being DES, Fomos, TIG, PlayXP, and personal interviews). You can get good views into the progamers' thoughts and opinions through translated articles and interviews here.

Just to make it clear--if BW were to be "dead" the most important and most exciting thing for non BW games (Not just SC2) is attracting sponsors that just dropped their previous workhorse. The "players" is the last thing non-BW fans should be excited over.

It's quite possible that's not really what Yellow did. We'll see in the coming months.

They said doing MSL in other MBC channels were being "Discussed", so we don't know for sure if it won't be the last. But at least there's more hope.
edit - and even this source isn't really credible.

Well hopefully things work out in the end x_x

Yesterday I was too sad to even post here. Now I have some hope. MBC can't die. ... It would be too horrible.

Even if PL and MSL are run on another channel, how about the other competitive games like Special Forces and Tekken? And then where would all the matches be played? Are they going to close the Loox Center as well? STX Cup and Elite Schools League are also run exclusively by MBC. That's not even mentioning all the other game related content on MBCGame channel. What a terrible blow to esports.

xtm is a channel owned by cj (broadcasted superfights back in 06-07 in 'hd') and if msl were to be ran on another channel, i'd imagine it to be mbc every1.
problem for xtm broadcasting pl is, where are they going to get casters/studio? is there any sort of incentive these days to broadcast proleague, given its recent sponsorship problems?
either way it's just pure speculation and i doubt much will be able to be done right now.
