These eye opening moments are great. I wish i cared less about my rank. (platinum too) i honestly have done at least 3 times as many custom 1v1 games as ladder games. i remember it's important to be able to enjoy the game. and u also remind me to measure my improvement against myself as opposed to the ladder.

I am in platinum and I dont give a fuck about promotions. Since I am not going pro there is no other reason to play other than for fun, consequentially ladder does not really matter to me. Its just a good way to get people to play with. Have to point out I play very little (I watch SCII WAY MORE than I actually play it).
I guess what im saying is just have fun if you are not trying to go pro.

And here I was thinking you were a super bw diehard who wouldnt touch sc2 with a 10 foot pole. :D Your advice is good too. I had a period of about a week recently where I could only play a few games a day cuz I kept tilting mad hard. Was weird since I was always fine with losses before that and it just came out of nowhere. I used Tyler's catch phrase so now I'm fine again. ^^
Gonna watch your ZvP because its not fun to watch the hero of a match lose. >_>

I'm surprised you didn't get angry in the first game. To be honest, I would have gotten pretty pissed. I need to stop getting tilted though t.t How many games do you have on ladder?

It is hard to enjoy Sc2 TvP.
TvZ and TvT are ok but when i get matched with a protoss i know it will be a really shitty game. It is either him failing a 4 gate or dt rush and being owned by stim and if he plays standard i get destroyed by his ht / collo tech even if have a 30 supply lead. So i guess thinking about the promotion can't be worse.
Forget TvP and think about the shiny master star.

I did vent a bit in the Cincinnati chat after, but had to admit in game it was a gg.
This season I've played like 100 1v1 games, like at least 50 of those in the last week. I had never mass gamed like that and it started to get to me. Overall including all seasons, I've probably played like 250 1v1s.

It took a while but i feel the same way ganjamster does about now. I played for a while in the first season, got to diamond when there was no master/GM and then i had to stop for a while cuz of school. So i was always nervous to play again becuase i wanted to get to masters but i did not even think i could stay in diamond. So i ended up playing a ton of 4v4 and other fun games so i would not stress, but i am starting to get back into 1v1 again. I have been able to win a few of them but i have had some pretty horrible losses as well. The thing is, i really do not care anymore. I still take games too seriously, but i know that ladder means nothing (almost) and i just want to play my best now. This also makes it easier to play more because i do not get nervous.
GL and i hope i can play you on the ladder. I am mid/high diamond, NA with the name FieLd.

As a player in mid platinum, I am the same way. Some days I just mass game, other days I play 1-5 games a week. I do get angry at some losses, but then I play the next game with vengeance in mind and usually squeek out the win and then call it quits for the night. I like ending on a positive note instead of playing until you lose a game.
I find the majority of my games go on for a long time as well, depending on how aggressive my opponent is (I am a bit too passive at times). I enjoy the game though and I could careless about being in platinum or grand masters, I play for fun most of the time, but do have the emotional losses where I beat myself up mentally for making a dumb mistake. I agree with playing for fun and enjoying the game is the best way to go about ladder.

I never feel like how you feel during ladder games, even custom games. I play and if I lose tremendously without even putting up a fight, I never feel appreciative or satisfied with the game.
I don't know the last time I played a match where it wasn't heavily in his favor to win or mine. I'll check out your games, I need some tips.

I'm only in silver. It's embarassing, but I don't care about it as much as other people do now. I reckon I should be in Gold but I find the massive amount of cheeses kinda saddening I know there are cheeses in every division, I just think lower divisions' cheeses are easier to fend off But I still get sad when I lose, 2 or 3 losses in a row and I have to stop playing.

I wish i could say the same thing, i am also high plat and have been playing against diamonds for a while now. However, most of my losses honestly feel like my opponent is terrible but I screw up something and end up losign to dumb stuff. Very rarely do I feel like my opponent is giving me a good challenge in a long game but i kinda wish i sould play more of those.

i wish i was less competitive tbh i feel as if i'm not enjoying the game as much as i could be simply because i care about my rank so much, which makes me sad
it just makes me even more angry whenever i lose to stupid shit like mass speedling or failed base trades <.<

Promotion and MMR being hidden is the reason that I would prefer an iCCup style ladder so much more than this Bnet crap... bnet turns skill ratings and levels of play into something that is hidden and almost arbitrary. On iCCup you would always know exactly where you were and how far you were from your goal. It's ridiculous to know that you're at a certain level and have the system refuse to acknowledge it. It's ironic that bnet was designed to make casual players feel better about themselves--at the expense that people are annoyed and frustrated while laddering.

hm, I am in diamond without playing more than 50 SC2 games in total, and about 30 of them being ladder games, I always got promoted after a couple of games, even when I lost some of them, idk, but I think the more games you already had, the harder it goes on you, the inner ranking system is probably doing that.

Actually strike that last part I've won like 100 1v1 games not played - damn B.net interface. No idea how many games overall I've played - overall, I'd guess around 500.

I feel I have a fairly good understanding of how the ladder system works thanks to Excalibur_Z's thread and the best I can conclude is that #1) the system is waiting until my mmr settles in a certain region so it can place me in one of the tiers with a certain confidence level, and #2) B.net isn't helping matters when significant numbers of games are returning/deducting no points (I don't know if it is effecting MMR but I'm guessing not).
Regardless I gave that thread my first real serious read through a few days ago and I have to say thanks to Excalibur as well as understanding how things work also has reduced the stress.
