Hey everyone,
The wonderful devs over at Agora Games have started working on our online tournament website. We'd love to hear what features you'd like to see on the site, what kind of tournaments it would support, or anything else that you can think of.
Head over to: http://sc2.majorleaguegaming.com/
Tell us what you think/want/need/care about.
Some features we're considering: * User-Generated Tournaments * Official MLG Tournaments with Exclusive Prizing (these are secret!) * Global MLG SC2 Rank * Automated Score Reporting * Public / Private APIs
Have at it! Help us build something that kicks ass and that you'll actually use!!
You can also check out the first dev blog about the topic here: http://dev.majorleaguegaming.com/2011/07/28/starcraft-2-online-competition-the-mlg-way/
Thanks!
Lee

Zeek and Playhem are doing very very well at giving tournies to all ranges with prizes, so as long as you can match that, with the MLG name behind you it should be a big hit!
I really love the global MGL Sc2 Rank, i could see events being made using that if it catches on depending how you all set it up.

Definitely looks inspiring.
Been waiting for another organization or individuals to setup another set of league play or additional servers.
Looking forward to seeing more on this and hopefully it flourishes.

"Global MLG SC2 Rank" Does that mean you'll have tournaments on EU and other servers too? How are you going to decide how important a tournament is for ranks if multiple servers are involved?
|
I'm one of the developers on the project. I'll be at Anaheim if anyone wants to track me down to chat about it.

Create a new ladder that doesn't suck aka ICCUP in BW lol

User generated tourneys would be pretty sIck
|
we need more 2v2 tournaments!!
|
To me these are the big two: * Official MLG Tournaments with Exclusive Prizing (these are secret!) * Global MLG SC2 Rank
It'd be cool to give those of us who really can't travel to Anaheim or Raleigh something to aspire to. Also, who DOESN'T want a global rank?
User generated tourneys might be cool, but I don't really see the benefit to MLG to let Joe Blow host a tourney for his 14 buddies. It's a cool idea, but ultimately one that I think doesn't provide much "value" to the community since most of the people who have the resources to create a legitimate (read: prize-driven) tourney, also have the resources to create a website for it.
Edit: Oh and API's would be cool so someone can create an iPhone app that lets me check my global rank.

I wish MLG was in charge of Battle.net 2.0. I like having things that i will actually use.
One suggestion i would have is, WCG use to have its tournament system run through Battle.net for its Warcraft 3, your stats from competing in WCG were shown directly on the WCG website, it was more of a qualification league then a actual tournament system. But i would love to see somthing like that.

This is awesome!! ladder, tournaments, make them 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 and FFA if possible for tournamet managment xD

Global SC2 rank would be so cool! SC2 ranks isn't that great IMO, very glitchy.

I'm curious what kind of glitches you've experienced with SC2Ranks, so we can avoid them. :-)
Care to elaborate?

Sounds good to me, just don't let your site crash due to heavy traffic after a popular tourney, like every other tourney site out there. Z33k is a good model to follow though, easy naviagation and interface is key.

Yeah, I have never heard of glitches in SC2Ranks... I have no idea what that guy is talking about!
One suggestion for the tournaments. I had the most fun in the GeForce Pro/Am tourney as it was made in a Round Robbin style which allowed you to remain engaged in the tourney no matter the games you lost. I think it would be great if you guys could have stuff like that where people are divided into groups and they just battle it out within their group and at the end the top of the group advance to the next round. You get what I mean by this system?
|
I would like to see some sort of clan/team system. Since battle.net is so severely lacking in the team/clan support, would be cool for MLG to take that and run with it. This way you could do clan leagues and such maybe.
|
Round Robin, Swiss, Pooled Play, etc aren't a part of our plans for the initial release, but they're a very high priority to be added soon after.
Ultimately, we want to build tools to manage any kind of tournament you guys want to run, but keeping it simple allows us to focus on quality first.
|
I looked around and the plans looked really awesome. Great ideas!
The only thing I could come up with is a way for organizing casters (automatically giving them matchups so they don't have to PM around to search for starting matches) and ways for casters to apply for casting the tournaments.
But that's probably too hard and unnecessary.
|
Actually Wesso, that is in our plans! I can't comment yet on what will make it into the first release, but if you want to talk more about casting features, hit me up here or give me a call.
