Circle the date in your calendars today plan your trips now, the biggest DC LAN event to date is happening on March 19th at Cyberground LAN center. DC LAN's have been regularly happening for over 2 years dating back to broodwar with competitive broodwar events. Xeris and SuperiorWolf have planned previous broodwar events in DC. I've been holding things together on a fairly regularly basis with help from Torenhire and a bunch of other people in the TL community in the area.
You will not want to miss this amazing event in the DC area sc2 scene sponsored by cyberground lan center and generous TL community members. This is going to be by far the biggest tournament to date hosted on location. DC LAN's have been regularly attended by top level players in the past, Gretorp, Orb, Lastshadow, SiN, avilo, and plenty of other top 200 North American SC2 players have been spotted going deep in brackets. Stats and information as well as links to previous lan posts is always recorded and saved on TL here.
The purpose of these lan tournaments is for quality sc2 competition as well as building and maintaining a solid sc2 community in the area. Interviews, pictures and videos WILL be taken and posted on TL and I will provide all content to anyone for their own sites or teams site. As well as any interested sponsors. Now on to the details:

Format:
Round Robin Group stage into a single elimination bracket stage. Two rounds of group stages will be played with 8 groups of players. Detail rules will be posted at a later date.

EDIT: By the way if you're wondering why this is so far out, there is a major collegiate SC2 event happening in Maryland on Feb 12th and a Hypercrew LAN at Cyberground on Feb 26th. I admit I'm a little disappointed you didn't call it the Hooktits Birthday LAN. Make sure you put up a donor list somewhere so people can thank all the awesome doods who are putting in cash to make the prize pool epic.

As to the catser you should have the caster be someone who is not actually at the lan, and just stream from the lan and they can cast from home. You could prolly get catspajamas to do it or someone.

Why not have a cast at the LAN too? Without any speakers and a small crowd it shouldn't be too much of an issue and is better than having 100 people shoulder surf during games. Additionally doing it live can create between game live interviews for entertainment and the closing awards ceremony will be streamed.
Oh lets not forget to mention embarrassing acts will be recorded/shown live; so we don't have to wait a month for someone to encode/upload a video from webcam Last but not least depending how it goes; the next LAN could easily have player camera's too, the production value is just much better when you are at the event.
That all being said there will probably be an external stream too.

Almost all the best players in the area play Terran. There are maybe 3-4 strong protoss/zergs but like 7-8 Terrans on that level or higher.

hey guys i wanted to ask some of the people i know from the dc va lans for some advice on my id, i didn't think it was a good id to start a thread just for my name change and really i would like to hear feed back from my friends at the lan. so with out further or due im thinking about changing my sc 2 id, i have not used my name change yet. ipp will be casting live from location with his desktop+video of the lan so not only is it going to be totally epic and awesome to watch but it's gonna be even more epic to be there, so everyone better come!

I didn't suspect that this would be on the week of spring break 2 months ago. I don't normally work Saturdays but since some people go home we change the schedule for spring break, and since I'm already missing Friday-Monday because of PAX I can't really talk my way out of Saturday assuming that my boss schedules me there. Also, what size is the TV that Kim brings for the Whispercast? I've got a TV that is pretty easily portable. My Laptop can run SC2 and Ipp can cast off that instead of plastic bag keyboard.

I think we can learn from the HyperCrew guys and have all the group matches and maybe maps set so the players get there, add their opponents and play. Goes much faster ^_^.

Yeah, the only problem with that though is that it gets a little difficult to accommodate walk-ins (we usually have tons) and no-shows.
Faster is good, but I'm more of the mindset "don't fix what ain't broke"

yeah! it's tons of fun to come play in an event like this in a lan setting at a great lan center with great people.
By playing in this you are supporting the local sc2 community and esports as a whole which is so awesome. plus you get to come out for a hella fun day and chill with a BUNCH of sc2/TL nerds and maybe even make friends/practice partners who will support you through whatever you are trying to achieve through sc2 be it moving out of silver league or getting top 200 in north america!

also on a serious note cheesegrater recommended it and I think its a smart idea to just use MLG maps, they include the most balanced ladder maps (xel naga/metal + a couple other pretty nice even maps like crossfire and iccup testbug which is a really fun 3 player map. (sc2 needs more 3 player maps)

I have been thinking about this as well and thought it perhaps would be a good idea. In a way we would not be changing much except for removing close spawn and building blockers, plus adding more maps. The only thing that has been bothering me to be honest are that these maps are big and most of the players going will most likely be Terran, so we could be in for some long Avilo style games. Either way, MLG maps sound great.

GSL Finals are also 2AM [edit] before the tournament. Don't know if I'd be going to any after-dinner GSL viewing since Chris is my ride and he hates anything that's not SC1 but I figured I'd mention it in case anyone thinks to host anything up.
Edit: Oh right, Geno. For whatever reason I thought it was after the tournament, not before. Oops. But, still, the idea lingers. I imagine I won't be coming until the Tournament though.

GSL viewing does sound pretty awesome. Pretty unfortunate that it takes place before the LAN again. But I'm not doing what I did last time. I was almost half dead after staying up so late and then having to go to the LAN that early.

Ipp will be casting the entire event with Orb and Hypercrew folks as guest casters throughout the day so everyone who can't make it out make sure to tune into the cast after tsl3 broadcast is over!

I just realized that the Metro is going to have maintenance tomorrow on the Orange line and at night Vienna, Dunn Loring nor West Fall Church will not do for me. :/ If East Fall Church is too far away for Rob, will have to see if someone can take to a further station.

but seriously thanks everyone for coming out, thanks torenhire for keeping things on track during the day, HUGE thanks to ipp for not only getting a sponsor for the event but also bringing everything to cast the casting setup was SOOO SICK ( I hope the stream was awesome, video of the lan center as well as casting tons of games was great, I saw the stream was near 700 viewers at some points, really good to see) <3 everyone.
next lan will happen when we can get a player who can beat avilo to come.

Forgive me for my laziness this time around. Staying up for GSL did do a number on me and I wanted to try and do things HyperCrew style with the matches set up online, but that didn't work out too well with players not showing up and having to fill groups the last minute. Next time, we should just do it all on paper.
Once again, congratulations Avilo. You are just too good and deserve the crown of "King of DC LAN." However, enjoy it while you can, because everyone is coming for you the next LAN. Expect lots of proxies, all-ins and Protoss' . GG's and good luck at MLG.

Guys, Thanks for the awesome lan! This lan is what i have come to expect from the dc community and once again they did not fail to provide excelent games and excelent fun. Thanks a lot to everyone that organized the event. Rob and Torenhire did a fantastic job, as always, making sure everything ran smoothly. So glad Ipp brought his equipment to cast the event, I had a blast helping out. I'm going to hunt down some of the vods of janitor and myself casting.
Nerd Dinner was amazing this time! It was awesome to get to know Ipp a little better and listen to Slimpower. Can't wait to do it again!
Grats to Avilo, again. The pain train is comin in the next lan.
