Laptop screen vertical banding.

So my laptop(~3 years old now, out of warranty) has a screen problem. It's sort of discolored in a funny way. Not the GPU because on both integrated and discrete it has this issue, and if you press down/bend on the edges of the screen a certain way you can make the problem disappear(temporary, and I don't want to do this for obvious reasons)

Changes depending on color too, on red and blue it's not apparent, but with orange and a more tealish color as well as greens it becomes a lighter vertical strip. It's not apparent with grayscale though, which is really weird.

Anybody know if there's an easy solution for this, or if I have to hope it doesn't fail, because right now, while annoying, it's still very usable because it's simply a lighter strip.

I could open it up. Easy would imply fixable without replacing the screen I suppose.

Temporary solution I have is simply bending and pushing the screen a bit, and for now it's holding a very light banding strip that's barely apparent unless I have a large band of solid color(orange etc).

well your screen seems to be divided in about 8? of those vertical bands. the bugged one looks to have some luminance issues. it could be LED issues, pixel driver issues, improper contact between the screen and the electronics part and maybe a few more.

what you could try (and i'd call it easy

) is to open it up; then, since you said that if you press it/twist it, it will correct itself, try to find the exact place where applying pressure fixes the problem and stick a piece of rubber or something there in such a way that when you'll close it back up, the back-plate of your laptop screen will press on it thus gimmicky fixing your problem.

usually in this case, when it's not a contact issue with your connector + Show Spoiler +
