Not sure if this is a common issue or just BNET servers acting up but I've been noticing some really annoying hiccups in game every 5-10 seconds (usually most frequent at the start of a game). I've been using the preloader as well but that doesn't seem to fix it. I can't recall having this problem before and I'm using FIOS so I highly doubt that it's my internet. I've also loaded up some replays but there's no problems in them.
Does anyone have an idea what's going on, or are Blizzard's servers just under too much stress after the HOTS launch?
I have had no such issues. You shouldn't assume the servers are broken globally because three people in a community of what, a million players have reported issues, all on the US server.
Lowered FPS in campaign is just high stress on CPU, lack of optimization etc in a few areas, maybe higher GPU load than playing the game normally but im not sure about that.
Been having this issue since beta. Basically when the game starts I get an upwards of 12 spikes per minute the first few minutes then it slowly crawls down to 0. This happens almost every game. Ping is fine. Download and upload is fine. This is the only game where I have this issue.
This is not just in the US, my brother and I (who live in different houses, but play 2v2) both experience lagspikes at the same moment during matches. We are talking about spikes of 0,5-3 seconds of freeze. He just got a new monster of a pc with windows 8 and I have a 2 y/o one with windows 7. In addition to that, we also have different providers.
So this is obviously a battle.net server problem.
However, since we both experience it, I'm guessing the enemy does too, which evens it out. It's still annoying though.
BTW: I feel sorry for that cat, can't this guy see she is frozen in fear? =(

Day 2 still no DC after trying it. Amazing :D
Agent only had like 6gb to download, and it started weeks ago, also pretty much everyone had problems (gotta go back to launcher download and finish, or exit the downloader, agent.exe)
I can run single player seamlessly, but whenever I try to do something else I get lag spikes that make the game completely unplayable. Even running a custom game vs AI or a training guide, it still spikes terribly. I tried the repair tool and shutting down agent.exe but it hasn't helped. Has been happening ever since the 2.0.5 patch
edit: finally did a fresh install and it seems to have fixed it.
I have the same problem. I get huge lag spikes every 5th minute and they last for about 5 seconds. The game is also very laggy overall when i'm playing.
Never really had problems with ingame lagspikes with WoL, been getting some weird ones, only on ladder / vs friends though, not against bots, if that helps anyone.

The fresh install didn't actually help. I think it may actually be my spyware doctor program? If i shut it down and restart I can play online fine. If I have it running SC lags really badly. The weird thing is though that if I shut it down SC won't stop lagging until I reboot. Telling it to shut down isn't shutting down all it's running processes?
I don't know if you're running this program as well, or if it is really the actual problem. All i know for now is that it's my temporary fix.
OK, so I had this problem myself - lag spikes unoccnected to intenet connection (checked on offline mode). I've read somewhere that they are caused by resorce loading (or something similar), ie (my process thinking here) every model, everything is dynamically loaded from your hard drive when needed, which may cause lags when many programs are using this specific hdd. Since I had my client installed on a very old, 5200rpm hdd on which I had my music too (which could cause those lag spikes), I simply moved it to my ssd. Problem solved
So my solution would be - check if anything else is using the same hdd as your sc2 client, if it is try to close it, move your music, w/e so only sc2 will be using it. Or if you are a lucky owner of an ssd, just install it there
End agent.exe worked for me too. I had lag spikes each 5 seconds and i had a 20/30 second freeze after going to options menu(f10) for the first time. Tried the other suggestions but that is the only one that helped.
I've got the same problems with spikes. When im playing 1vs1 there are about 1-2 Spikes per Minute but 4vs4 is unplayable. Even droped out of a 1vs1 game a minute ago, just lost connection to Batlle.net. I tried to shutdown agent.exe, also moved all my replays and have SC2 installed on a SSD but nothing workes for me. Any more solutions? Its really frustrating, never had lag in WoL...
I'm not quite sure if I'm getting the same issue, but I've been seeing numerous people experience this lag spike issue. I can say out of experience it is incredibly frustrating :/. Every time I try to play a game my game starts stuttering and becomes basically unplayable... I try the pre-loader as most people recommend. As zerg (and i'm sure for any race for that matter) I can barely do anything, the whole game is just stuttering and responding with a silly delay so micro and even macro gets hard. It's a shame, as I never had this problem when I played WoL, bleh. I constantly run 100+ fps, and my internet works perfectly fine in every other game I play.
Same problem here... Spikes and Low fps, Internet connection is Ok,no virus, drivers OK, repair tools and reinstall w7 and Sc2 the problem is already here.
i5 2500k Gtx 560 Ti 6 Gb Ram
Temperature is good, and my fps are ~30 average et down to 0-5 fps..
