Hi, I recently bought my Cyborg R.A.T 9 mouse, which is pretty awesome.
But I'm experiencing some problems, as when i've used the mouse for a little while the cursor starts jumping around, and it's that bad it's unplayable when this occurs. I've tried turning it off and on again (when this is happening), and change battery, but it still moves unevenly.

I really don't know what todo, else then just return the mouse to Cyborg. This is just a last stand to see if there is any answers.

I've done ton of research about this problem, but I haven't found many that have the same problem. I've reinstalled the driver, uninstalled all other mice drivers.

I know there was a problem with R.A.T 9 that if you had the extended pinky on it, it would move unevenly, but I ain't using the extended pinky.

Edit: I've tried different surfaces, and I've even tried it on another computer, the the problem still exist.
Edit #2: I might just write this too. I had a similar problem, though this time I could just move sideways, and sometimes just up and down. This only occurred once though, so it might be that something got stuck within in the lens.

Thanks in advance.

I was having problem with a version of RAT 7, not quite as you described it, more like it froze up.

I read somwhere that you shouldn´t be using black surface with the cyborg mices so I bought a white / orange on and havn´t had any problems since then.

I have the problem where the cursor wont move somewhere consistantly. The only way I have been able to fix it is blowing into the lens and changing mousepad to something lighter (colour wise)

my RAT 7 works perfectly on my razer kabuto mousepad and with acceleration enabled under mouse settings in windows. without acceleration enabled, and i'm not sure if this has to do with the mouse pad, the mouse locks up randomly. it's hard to tell..

I have the RAT 7 and I absolutely love this thing. I've heard that you need to disable the "enhance pointer precision" option in the mouse settings in order to optimize performance and avoid issues similar to what you've described. Not sure about the color issue but I have a Razer Goliathus pad which is black and mine is working fine at the moment.

Sometimes my mouse gets a tiny piece of hair stuck inside right by the laser and it throws it outa wack and I gotta get tweezers to get it out then it works fine. The symptoms are about exactly what you described too

Hi, and thanks for the responses!

I am using a black surface - which might be the problem, though it does the same on my table (witch is much lighter).
It might be the mouse pad, which is really easy to fix (I hope it is), or it might be a hardware failure.

I have disabled the Enhance pointer precision - and i've seen if there is anything stuck inside where the lens is.

I will try using another surface

Thank you very much for your help, ill cross my fingers that it's only the surface :D

I will give you feedback if the problem is occurs, or if it's completely gone

I read that it's incompatible with soft mouse pads, I guess ill go to the store and pick up a Razer Megasoma (which is a hybrid) or another hard mouse pad.

I really prefer having a soft mouse pad as they're usable in different conditions, though i'd rather get a new hard mouse pad then a new mice, as I love the R.A.T 9 :-)

The Phillips Twin-Eye sensor is somewhat finicky about the surface it's on sometimes, so it's probably better to get a hard pad for them. However, the bigger issue no one asked, but do you lift your mouse at all? The PTE has a pretty bad z-axis tracking problem that makes the cursor jump if you lift it off the surface.

No, I never lift my mouse, I have a rather high sensitivity, so it's not needed. The mouse is kinda heavy too, so i've heard people having problem with pain in their wrist after using it (though that's most likely for people who lift their mouse much). Tho good thinking

I think ill go for a hard pad - or the Megasoma, and hope it will fix the problem.

I have the same problem on my Albino and I've gotta say Cyborg has the worst customer service ever OMG. I've submitted the ticket for a month and they never reply it.

I have the same problem tuho12345. I also submitted a ticket some weeks ago. But I bought it from pixmania.com, which is a very nice website. They helped me, and gave me the details I needed to send the product back. They even said they would send me a new one, even before looking at the old one

I haven't been amazed by Cyborg, and at this rate they will never become as big as other gaming-gear companies. Which is sad, as they do make good products.

Don't get the Megasoma. I've read way too many negative reviews regarding how quickly it wears out.

I kknow this thread is old, but here is another user with similar problems. My cursor is jumping over pixels. Sometimes it follows wrongly in sideway while I am scrolling vertically, sometimes it is lagging few pixels behind and sometimes it jumps forward. Sometimes it follows correctly, than when mouse stops jumbs back for an ½ inch or so. The worst thing is all happeneds at random. I am using light mousepad with rough surface and relatively hard. I have uninstalled all old logitech drivers I had for my old mouse, and there is no hardware acceleration or anything else marked in windows settings. It is quite annyoing even in windows, not to mention when gaming.

yup the sensor is horrible indeed. i bought this mouse because it is perfect for my hand but i am also experiencing erratic cursor movements. tech support swears the lens is dirty..that's BS. i three more units after every few months and the results are the same, so i sent them all back for refund.

right now i am using logitech g700, really good. but i will still try another rat 9, the 6400 dpi version.

Why 6400dpi?

I play sc2, guild wars, diablo just fine @450dpi (zero acceleration, 6/11 windows), and 2000 would be considered on the very high end.

6400 is ludicrously high and with any DPI increases you are trading away accuracy.

Oh yea, i use a dual screen set up.

Maybe his mousepad is the size of a flea? My friends play on extremely high settings too for mouse sensitivity and I just don't understand how they do it.

At 6400dpi you can cross your entire screen diagonally in around 1cm of movement.. Is your mousemat really THAT small?

Ive seen quite a few peoples mouse settings, and i have not seen a single one legitimately using anywhere near those sensitivies.

5 of so were using 3000+DPI, but ALL OF THEM had positive/negative acceleration of some sort, OR were lowering their dpi via the windows multiplier, messing up cursor movement.

My mousemat (Razer QCK+) is big enough to allow me to use 180dpi for starcraft 2, of course that is stupidly low, and 450 is already low end, but i CAN do it without running off the mat, and i really, REALLY doubt anyone legitimately needs above 2k DPI

It is very annyoing - the mouse is useless, it jumps all upp and down in opposite direction of scrolling all the time

I have tryed all build in sensitivities and I experience same thing. I bought mouse less than a week ago.

It can't be dirty lens.

By the way "madcatz" support that cyborg is buying themselves in, is a ridicioulous, they don't even have a webforum for people to ask each other. There is some "faq" or something one can look at but it contains just junk questions weith obvious answers, or easty to look up on cyborg site.

I am really dissapointed in this mouse :-( Expected something totally different with high quality.

As a little update. It seems to help a bit if z-axis sensitivity is taken all the way down or all the way up, but not in the middle as default. I experience less jumpiness in both cases.

Since 6400dpi is the high end of his hardware maybe he likes playing at 3000 and doesn't want to stress the hardware. Some people think like that. Think outside the box before you post stupid irrational things on the internet.

If you haven's already tried a new mousepad, Id say try that first, my most recent mousepad wore out really fast and it made my mouse quite jumpy...

Also if you have a fan, floor fan/table fan(especially if its on your computer desk!!!) any sort of thing like that near your computer, turn it off and try with that, even the small vibrations you cant feel, and that wouldn't move the mouse from rest can cause HUGE tracking problems.

Hi,

I have bought Rat 9 few months ago.It was by far the best mice i used and i had no problems with it.
Week or so ago suddenly cursor stopped working. Every button works but cursor doesntmove. I tried to unplug it , change battery , install drivers but it doesnt work. What is most strange part that after i disconnect it and connect it again next day it works for few minutes before suddenly stopping again. And i can same thing every day and it works for very short time before suddenly stopping and not moving again. I have to state again that every button works , there is connection i can click everything despite moving cursor wich stops and dont move at all.

Is it sth to be fixed or have to send to service?

Thx in advance

Best Regards

I had the same problems with my RAT 9. Sometimes I'm not able to scroll in one direction, or only with great difficulty. This usually happens suddenly and it seems to go away after a minute or so. I did notice that the sensor housing has a tendency to retain dirt. No idea if this is related or not, but if it is then that's a design flaw. Used plenty of laser mice that worked fine for years without any cleaning.

It's too bad that such an awesome looking ridiculously high priced mouse has such problems.

I have figured out a fix for the RAT 9 cursor issue. Upon purchasing my mouse and installing all the optional software, I discovered my cursor was performing incorrectly. It almost seemed to lag as I moved my mouse cursor across the screen. I have searched high and low for an answer on how to fix this problem, only to find that people were giving up and simply buying a new mouse. What I did was go into my Programs and Features under control panel and remove the RAT 9 Battery Charge Indicator. I then closed the actually indicator as it was still open on my desktop. Once I closed and removed that piece of software, my mouse is back to working flawlessly. There is absolutely no lag in the cursor whatsoever. I understand this is an old post, but considering a fix has been found I felt it necessary to share with all of you who no doubt have been stressed out and irritated by this issue. Hope this works for you, have fun!

Just because Google puts this thread close to the top of "rat 9" searches. I had to register to this forum to reply to this thread.

First off, I have the same problem, and been having the problem since day two of owning the product. I run two mice, as when the RAT 9 starts acting up, just switch to the other mouse (Logitech G7). I have been living with the problem for too long, I was just doing work in windows. But started gaming again recently and the problem is superbad!

Second, I think its totally upsetting and BS. That a $120 mouse would have these problems. Your normal cheapo $15 mouse would not give you this headache. AHHH...

To Dollarbill13m post, I did uninstall the software and it did seem to help. But No in the long run did not fix the problem at all. I have cleaned with a q-tip, blown it out with an air compressor and run it on my white table. Nothing works. The problem is not repeatable, and as far as I can tell can't relate the problem to anything other then a defective product. As I have tried 2+ computers, 5+ different USB ports, and with the software have done it all.

Honestly it doesn't feel like a optical problem, but more like a wireless connection problem. And YES, to say Madcatz support sucks, is putting it lightly.

You pay for the shell, not the sensor or anything else like that. Everybody looks for reviews on the shell and the feel of the mouse, not of the sensor, remember it

I say you're paying for the branding, uniqueness, and just mindset that more $$$ = better, more than anything else but yeah, probably not the sensor.

nickmind, try to remove the plastic glider surrounding the laser. i could not clean mine without removing it with a q-tip. after cleaning it, it went back to normal. I first tried it without the glider and then I put it back to its place. Maybe worth a try...

Dollarbill13m Your fix worked for me, thanks so much. I hope you pop back and read my thanks. As soon as you mentioned the battery charge software it rung a bell for me as I had noticed it glitched a bit prior to my problems. I registered with the site just to say thanks as this mouse was a gift from my son because I get pain in my hands, I really have trouble with some shapes of mice so cheers for coming back to post that :D

the problem 'caused by a conflict wireless.
just change the channel on the modem and everything is resolved.
for example, I was set to automatic channel and the problem presented itself, setting in channel 9 and all 'back perfect

yeah i have experienced same things recently, and figured out that it is the precision aim function thats causing the problem. either you want to turn it off or you want to just turn it to 0% in the settings tab. I know this is a really old thread, but i guess this solution will help ppl a lot.

Just thought I would make an account when I saw this!

First a bit of back ground info: I use the Rat 9 Mouse pad my Rat 9 is just over a year old.

First time i had this problem I thought censors as well.. but with a magnifier i could see nothing wrong with the censors.

So I simply took the mouse apart and cleaned the scroll censors, You my be asking why. Think of it like this. If i slap you on the a$$ you feel it. But If you have a broken arm, then slap you on the a$$ you feel it less. because you are already busy feeling pain else where. Well. Same with the mouse. I have had this problem 3 times now and resolved it by cleaning the scroll censors. Problem solved.

Give this a try before giving up the best mouse on the market.

P.S. to clean the scroll censors just blow into the scroll censor while slowly spinning the wheel. or those less adventurous. Feel free to watch this fella who explains taking it apart in great detail.

YES! this Fixed my poor / intermittent sensitivity. Symptoms. Mouse wheel randomly moves when clicking from time to time. and mouse moment feels like it's not registering everything / moving but not the way that feels correct.

Hope this helps.

Reviving old thread...my rat 9 started "lagging" the sensor. I was done with it, until i found this thread. My wireless router is next to my pc, so i think it can be the cause to the lagging. Changed the channel to 9, and will use it for some time to see if it solves my issue. I love the mice, i have some 4 other mices, all high end pixart sensor, but I love the feel of the rat. Just hope it fix my issues. Will report later.

Hello,
It is my second RAT9 that I have now.
All the "Interference" problems I though they have are actually very easily fixed. (If your computer is not the newest most high-end)
And yes, they are not interference problems.
You just have to plug it in a USB 2.0 port and it works perfectly fine. All the issues are caused by USB3.0 incompatibilities.
