well my expierience is with the vhscreencap it tend to slow your pc down by alot you can second that program to test wise with adobe fme but xsplit use it too and with high resolutions 1080p it just destroys fps and performance by alot for some
reasons while it runs great with 1024x768 eg.
using my black magic intensity i got no problems at all since it uses another source too

I'm not sure if you read the OP at all . This is a guide for how to circumvent the rather bad performance by vhscrcap, so your comments are not really related. Using BMI (capture cards) is also kind of irrelevant to this topic. Also please use comma+puntuation marks - your post is so hard to read );

Finally I want to state that XSplit has two methods of screen capture: Screen region (vhscrcap) and GameSource. The latter used to have pretty bad performance, but the XSplit team has been improving it seriously these last weeks. Expect it to be released to the public soon. Note: GameSource is only available to subscribed users, so DXtory may still be viable for some in the future.

Specs: Athlon II x4 3.41 ghz, CPU-NB 2.5ghz.
4GB RAM (7-7-7, 1348mhz)
GTX 460 768mb
Ping:55ms
Download: 2.79mbs
Upload: 0.72mbs

I get all settings maxed out on 1280x768 resolution with 120+ fps.

So I did everything stated in the videos, watched them all. When I stream, it lags. I guess you could say I could still 'play', but it's really too laggy to play competitively. When I lowered my quality from Ultra to Low, the exact same type of lag still existed and didn't change at all. My fps drops, and lag is really the best way to put it - I select a drone, I don't actually end up selecting it until a second later. Things just dont respond as sharply.

I set all my settings as you recommended and did in the OP, and was wondering how to further tweak it for my low performance.

The fps during a game drops to about 10, CPU load is around maybe 50-70 and the ram at around 80%. Maybe it's pushing the limits but it doesnt seem to be capping out.

Can you tell me your performance numbers (FPS/CPU etc) without using DXTory?

Try creating a blank new Presentation - sometimes there's some "residual" scene items stock. You will be able to feel the difference if everything is setup right. If the input lag is still there afterwards, please check all the settings again, chances are you skipped something, ie. setting output to DirectShow only etc.

I have some news fresh off the XSplit website.

As of today, all personal or premium XSplit users can take advantage of the new and much improved GameSource feature in XSplit. It now supports an ever growing list of DX9, DX10 and DX11 fullscreen and windowed fullscreen games. Performance for Starcraft 2 has been particularly improved since earlier versions. Please try out v1.0.1201.0504 (link).

In short: If you have already paid for XSplit, using GameSource could save you the cost of DXTory.

DXTory is still a great piece of software - I'm just updating you all that GameSource has been improved.

I tried the new version of game capture from XSplit and for me using dxtory still nets better results (more fps while playing). granted, I am not streaming sc2 though so take it with a grain of salt.
my machine specs:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz (4 CPUs), OC at 3.5 ghz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Video Card Sapphire Radeon HD 6970 2048MB DDR5 DP core clock 880 MHz memory speed 5500 MHz shader clock 1375)
2mbit upload (selected London Secondary as location from Xsplit channel settings).
Tomorrow I am getting a i5 2500k cpu and a new z68 motherboard, that will hopefully improve performance. While playing SWTOR in warzones my fps sometimes drops to 25 which is dangerously close to the low limit imo.
Try using the trial dxtory and see if you get better results. I know, the logo is annoying as hell but it's just a test, see if it's worth buying. I own both atm, Xsplit may improve even more their game source capturing thingy but, since I don't have fraps, dxtory is a nice addition. Gluck!.
Edit:Streaming at 1280x720 resolution, playing at 1680x1050, while using XSplit game source fps drops to 15ish while in pvp/warzones. Using DXtory, 25ish to 30.

Only problem remaining is my screen flickering.. Not for me but when I watch something I recorded it's flickering all over the place.

so dxtory rips images right from the video card -- how does the xsplit game capture work?

That's most likely because your game is in true fullscreen mode - try switching it to windowed fullscreen if it supports it. If it doesn't the only way to remove the flicker is to use the Gamesource feature in xsplit (supports fullscreen) or maybe try DXTory.

when i hit my hotkey for dxtory (it starts recording) my game performance goes to shit (all choppy, feels like 5-10fps). what are the most likely casues for this? i keep trying different settings in xsplit (quality, preset, etc) but nothing seems to be helping.

just for the record i followed destinys guide to fme and vhscreen and 1080p 25fps worked pretty well. even spawned like 200 creeps in hon just to test it out. i didnt bother with the sound since i was merely testing my system capabilities (brand new setup so wasn't sure what i could handle). result is here:
http://www.justin.tv/dye44/b/305217247
i assume some minor tweaking will improve the clarity/pixels/blurry-ness (what causes this?)

for some reason i get huge game lag when using dxtory + xsplit...just wondering what might be wrong??

Enable it in options, restart, look in File menu for the "Add game..." option.

Turning on DXTory shouldn't impact performance at all. Make sure you haven't activated compression in DXTory and uncheck "Record to file" too. Also make sure your video settings (resolution/fps) are set up right.

In XSplit, create a fresh new presentation and only add DXTory (for the purpose of this test).
This should do the trick.

Blurryness and pixelation are most commonly due to too low bitrate or too fast a preset. If you want my input on your settings I need you to post them + your hardware specs.

i cannot stream with xsplit alone because it gives me game lag. if this guide allows me to stream on my laptop, i don't care if you've murdered, stolen, treason'd. I will sing your praises forever. going to work now.

specs:
i2500k @ 4.5ghz
8gb 1600 ram
5.8gb/sec upload
gtx 560ti 448 core gpu

i know its not a hardware issue because my FME + VHScreen capture runs 30fps at 1080p pretty damn well. Its gotta be something simple with dxtory.

i followed the video exactly. the only difference I see is dxtory version 2.0.108 vs 2.0.104 (I'm using .108). even without my stream running, if i just open up a game and then have dxtory "record" my fps drops from like 150 to 30 (based upon the dxtory FPS monitor at the top left) and the game is unplayable. the second i turn off the recording (just using my hotkey) the game is flawless and playable again. something simple has gotta be screwed up within dxtory.

starting a new presentation had no effect.

i took a SS of every page in dxtory w/ my settings lol. open the spoiler to see (ive tried every codec format from low to true):

Thank you for the detailed reply
Could you try doing the same test (monitor 'DXTory FPS' with DXTory running/not running), but without having XSplit started please. What does that show?

Weird.
Unless someone else has any ideas, I'd try the DXTory forums next: http://forum.dxtory.com/index.php

I know cs 1.6 and HON are much different, but with dxtory my cs 1.6 looks amazing while streaming (30fps in a first person shooter can be choppy with fast movements but overall this is about as much as i can ask for streaming 1080p)

http://www.justin.tv/dye44/b/305327423

but in hon it drops to like 20fps ingame.....i dont get it ;-\ (excuse the sound --- had it on a shitty SPEEX codex setting on accident)
