Does that mean what's on the market now is going to remain the best until Q3+?
Probably. Gk110 is really fast though, 780ti has no trouble walking all over sli760. We'll just hopefully get substantial improvements in both perf/watt and perf/dollar
x264 definately seems to win over nvenc for quality, so it won't look the greatest if you use high resolution/fps with limited bitrate (can't really go above ~4000) but game performance when using nvenc is way better. TBH that always bothered me way way more

Your best option might be to read up a bit, wait for more data (OBS forum should have some, I'll look there later, if it turns out to be good to use (i think it might be for low-impact streaming) then maybe just grab a Maxwell card for your next GPU upgrade (they're releasing throughout this year, we only have the weakest 28nm maxwell gpu right now, for 750/750ti.. which should be better than your current GPU oc'd, and use less than 1/3 of the power - the midrange ~800 series gpu would be a good upgrade for you, if you wanted it)
Wait for a 8 series maxwell. GOTCHA!. I will wait then.

Is it expected that Shadowplay/NVENC are going to improve with the future models or will those just be driver-based improvements?
I'm in the market to switch my setup into something capable of 7680x1440 NV Surround with 2 additional normal monitors on top, but also to make use of the lower overhead streaming. Obviously I'm going to break the bank waiting or not, but it doesn't seem clear on if waiting is going to make marked improvements in the SP/NVENC realm or horsepower for such a setup.
Which I suppose brings up another interesting question: streaming the only the center monitor while in NV S mode, since it's logically treated as once monitor. With OBS capturing you could in theory do it as a fixed position capture, but how would such a thing work with SP/NVENC?

Heard they were making it twice as fast for Maxwell
AFAIK for nvenc you can do that fine, as Shadowplay works for example it records only the primary monitor AFAIK, even in surround

I'm not sure how to interpret twice as fast. Does that mean less overhead, better looking quality, etc?

Twice as much FPS encoded before being overwhelmed, i guess. I have to use performance preset instead of quality which probably drops quality to improve encoding speed in order to do etc 720p120. 1080p60 worked fine on high quality low latency though IIRC
I'l youtube some 1080p30 @4mbit cbr with nvenc to show quality (as that's actually realistic for use with twitch etc), should we make a thread for this?

I'd be surprised if there isn't a great deal of interest in the ins and outs of streaming using NVENC. Probably would be a good idea.
At the very least I'm interested :D.

Yeah I'm definitely interested to see more NVENC data. I've been on the AMD hype train because it's nice to be able to mine and have a GPU pay for itself while you sleep, but I'd definitely consider going back to NVIDIA for my gaming rig if NVENC is the future.

I've got some adware on my comp and I can't find it or remove it.
Screenshot here: http://i.imgur.com/Pq2dqdT.png
I've tried to find it in my running processes (I can't identify it). Couldn't find it in Startup or Services in msconfig. I ran Microsoft Security Essentials and IOBit Malware Fighter and neither of them found it. Any tips? I'm out of ideas here.

Did you check Firefox for a weird extension or plugin?
EDIT: A Google search finds stuff that seems relevant if you look for "awardhotspot malware".

HijackThis is usually the go to for trying to find an entry of something malicious. It's not easy to decipher, though.

Hey everyone,
Recently spilled some water into my top computer vent, and after immediately shutting it down then back up 2 hours later, the computer failed to POST, just keeps all fans running and has a blinking red light labeled "dram," which seems to be a general error code. Amount of water spilled was about 50mL, and it was all wiped up before I restarted the computer. I don't know how such a small amount of water could mess it up so hard.
Using other parts, determined RAM is fine, but cpu is faulty. However, I have no idea how to determine if the PSU or mobo is also broken without sacrificing the safety of other components. My guess is that either the PSU or mobo died from the water and then killed the cpu, but I don't know if that is actually the case. Advice on how to proceed?
Asus p8z68-VLX corsair tx650 intel i7 2600k
Edit: 5 to 50mL

5ml? That seems like a very small amount to do that kind of damage through a vent
edit: derp wrong %

I wasn't expecting any trouble but then the PC just didn't POST. There was no smoke, shock, or smell of burning at all either. Also I shut down the computer manually to be safe, it was running just fine after the accident.

Yup this was it exactly, found the solution with a quick googling. Thank you!

@minitelmaster:
I would take things out of expansion card slots and memory slots and let it dry some more. You could try to blow into the slots with a can of compressed air or some other device that can blow air. You should also rub off the contacts on the memory sticks and graphics card.
There's electrical contact cleaner that gets sold in an aerosol can. It's mostly (isopropyl?) alcohol to dissolve stuff and spray it away. It evaporates very fast but leaves some sort of greasy residue (it's not 100% alcohol). I would be scared to spray something like this into a memory slot for example, but I suppose it might actually help.
If you also take out the CPU out of the socket, you have to be careful because the empty socket has very fragile pins. The board is instantly unusable if you brush against the empty socket or let anything fall into it. I wouldn't try to do anything to the empty CPU socket beside let it sit there, no compressed air etc.
Perhaps removing the whole board out of the case might do something? There might be water somewhere on the back side or in some nook?
|
For others reading, 2 hours is certainly an insufficient amount of time to wait when dealing with water in electronic. I would advise waiting several days at least given the cost of bricked hardware and water's ability to get in nooks and crannies.
|
Yup I should have waited longer for sure. Since then I've taken the PC apart completely - I just have the mobo, RAM, cpu, and PSU connected. There is no sign of physical damage anywhere, and no water anywhere either. I'm pretty sure the cpu is broken, so what is the likelihood of the mobo and/or the psu being broken as well? Surely the cpu didn't just die by itself? I want to put a good cpu into the mobo to test it, but I'm scared that it could kill the good cpu.
Edit: I have reseated the RAM and cpu and tested the mobo/cpu with a known good psu and RAM. I know the cpu is bad because I put in into a working system and the system would not POST. I guess the question now is whether or not the mobo and/or psu is bad as well, and how do I test for that?

hey guys, I watched a video about mouse precision and mouse settings a few weeks ago. There was a programm shown wich shows you the pixel added to your movement if you go further then the 6/11 settings in windows. Probably not the best discription of it but does anybody know the name of programm so I can dl it? muchas gracias anyways

mousemovementrecorder? It can only pick up software issues AFAIK
