Reds are popular because they're supposedly the best switch for gaming (FPS). Low activation force, but linear. Less stressful on the fingers for FPS type games. Plus that KBC Poker keyboard that's been going around is pretty sexy. Much more so than the Noppoo Mini; that was soooo last season. Though for something like an RTS in SC2, I'd still stick with something that's tactile. Either a blue or brown will work fine. Tenkeyless or 104 is up to the user and whether or not he/she needs the desk space and/or the keypad.

I think I like blues better, but have not had the chance to use blues much. Browns have very little actual tactile feel in my opinion, and because if this, I am bottoming out on all my key presses anyway, which I think slows down typing, but certainly makes quite a bit of noise also! I'm sort of curious how a black would be, I'm thinking I might possibly even like them more than brown, just because the higher (and linear/predictable) key press resistance might prevent me from bottoming out.

Don't try to type fast, try to press on the keys lightly until you can feel the bump. It's very light, but it's noticeable and it's definitely there. After a while you'll get used to not bottoming out the keys and can resume typing at a very fast pace. Keep in mind that it only takes 2mm in pressing down a key for it to register. Then again if you have bear hands like iNcontrol does, then blacks would probably be a better fit for you.

basically it is like a laptop with the size of a normal keyboard. super flat, silent, precise. the switch is flat, has a low but high enough resistance to rest your hands on, the moment you press and it moves, the stroke is registered, backbouncing time is super fast. or in short, you need 12000 apm on one key to overcome the technical barrier. it is resistant to fluids and due to its flat build super ergonomic. if you have high apm and dont want to get tired, this is it. the only backlash to the mx switches is the durability of the tactical feel click is "just" 20 000 000 strokes compared to 50 000 000 of mx blues. ^^

That's great and all, but when I can't even send an email without waking up one of my housemates, that's where the "lol, clicky keyboard, so leet" fun stops. Returned blue, bought brown, never looked back. Perhaps the clicks help some people type, but honestly - who even works without music on? These are just 'bumpy' enough to be able to comfortably type without bottoming out, and when you learn how to do that, this board is probably more silent than the rubber domes I had before. It's also *very* comfortable, still having that little extra resistance just before the switch activates. I wouldn't say it helped my Starcraft game in the slightest, but it's a damn comfortable board and that's worth the money. edit: Added advantage. I can now use mumble/ventrilo while gaming and people will actually understand what I'm saying. Not quite possible when I used blues;) On August 11 2011 07:42 Bloody wrote: What type of switches is the best for games like dance dance revolution, stepmania. Probably not mech. I'd go for note-book style flat keys, since they usually have less travel distance. The additional travel of ful-size keyboards can have a detrimental effect on your speed. (Yes, I am aware that you don't need to press all the way down, but during an intense game of stepmania - you will.)
