I use 1000 kbps on Max Bitrate and 1000 on buffer size and when I stream, the kbps runs like only max 800kbps, I want it to run on full 1kbps. I'm really confused between kbps and KB/s. Also, when I do speedtest while streaming, I still have like 1mbps left.. should I try to increase the Max Bitrate?

I got a question.

I've tried to use programs like WeGame (with half decent results in terms of framerate using Web quality recording) and Taksi (with very bad results framerate wise) to record gameplay videos.

Apparently two of my biggest bottlenecks are the fact that I don't have a second hard drive to save videos to, and that because of filesize limitations, I am slowed more by the encoding done on-the-fly when not using Fraps.

Anyway, the question is: Does livestreaming have an adverse effect on your framerate?

im also tried this even that my upload speed is incredibly low lol. i can get about 300-400bitrate without huge lag but i when i stream i get jumping black screens like every second on screen. someone know how i could fix that? i also tried high bitrate but it doesnt work.

A flickering black screen on the stream is caused by leaving the game's display mode at Fullscreen. You need to change it to "Windowed (Fullscreen)".

raise your quality up a 1 and increase the bitrate to 1500, your stream should use almost all of it, remember if your streaming your webbrowser its gonna be at a lower bitrate, if you stream your game during a 200/200 battle the the bitrate will be alot higher, just cause its outputting more content.

Yes livestreaming has an effect on your fps, just cause it is very cpu intensive, it will be intensive if you want to record the vods to your hdd, but most of the streaming websites allow the vods to be saved directly to your profile, and some even have the capability to output the vods to youtube, if thats what you wanted to do. What are your pc specs? Usually pc's with like 3.2+ dual core processors or 2.6+ quad cores have the capability to stream but it depends on the architexture of the chip. If you really want to record vods i suggest just unchecking the auto record broadcasts, and let the streaming website record them for you :D

Hey guys. I've been fiddling around with some settings trying to find the best way to get good quality and no lag. I find even the slightest bit of delay between movements hard to play with. It's not necessarily a huge deal but it can be when microing away from baneling or storms.

Some of my specs:

Q9550 @3.5ghz
4gb ddr2 RAM
ATI 5770

My main problem with streaming is definitely my internet connection. I get 6mb down and 0.67up max (I live in Canada).

The best I think I've come up with is streaming at
-20fps
-1088x612
-quality 6
-500kbps
-200kbps buffer size
-44.1khz stereo sound @ 64kbps

I get roughly a 15FPS drop in game and sometimes even more when in a long macro game, down to maybe 25fps. The delay gets kind of bad at times too. Basically, what settings do you suggest I can increase or decrease with the specs I have? I'm noticing I'm not using all of my CPU power as well but I don't know which settings heavily favor CPU power.
The Boss.

I dont understand why your buffer size is so small, or if effects the stream, but try testing while having starcraft2 on medium or low.

start in the top left corner and drag it over your screen, basically like boxing over something in sc2. you have to hold your mouse button in!

You can also just single click, which selects the entire screen or application in it. Works on dual-monitor too.

Going to do some tests with 2 different pc's one being a older gen quad core, and another being a higher end quad. Both pcs are clocked at the same speed 3.06 ghz. Will post results

q6600 max quality I can set it to is 4
test1;@ 500 kbps http://www.justin.tv/boblhead/b/280309090
test2;@1000kbpshttp://www.justin.tv/boblhead/b/280309381
test3;@1750kbpshttp://www.justin.tv/boblhead/b/280309802

i7 950 quality static @ 6
test1;@ 500 kbps http://www.justin.tv/boblhead/b/280311428
test2;@1000kbpshttp://www.justin.tv/boblhead/b/280311572
test3;@1750kbpshttp://www.justin.tv/boblhead/b/280311879

with the q6600 you can see the stream, but its terribly pixelated, this is cause its an first gen quad core 65nm, the graphics card is also a budget, now I'm sure you could bump the quality to at least a 5 with sufficient over clocking and cooling.

with the i7 950 xsplit was actually putting out more than the set bitrate, this is why you may notice some stuttering through the video, at one point in the 500 kbps test xsplit was demanding 800 kbps, with the 1000 kbps it spiked up to 1300, and with the 1750 it also spiked up to 1960, this is why you may notice more stuttering. Luckily I have a 5 mb upload speed, but still if you are having troubles with streaming and notice your stream is stuttering with xsplit its cause its demanding more bandwidth than its given. People that are having stuttering problems from their streams may have to lower your broadcasting resolution, This solution might help

As for people having trouble with FPS drops I suggest you lower your broadcasting resolution http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_resolution always try and match your native aspect ratio's for maximum quality, another solution for fps drops is if you don't have vertical sync on you should make sure and apply it, this will match your refresh rate of your screen.

Is it important to set the GFX low? In particular, what is the most important? Textures or all the other stuff?

depends on your cpu/gfx card in my other post the q6600 graphics are on low cause the card used is a 5570 and overall that card is completely a budget card. What is your cpu/graphics?

you should be able to play and stream on high with some ultra settings, but streaming entirely in ultra would make your fps go down unless you had another card for crossfire.
The i7 950 build has medium-> ultra settings, but since the card is considered a budget I would need another to even think of streaming on ultra.

I tried alot of different settings in Xsplit but it wont run smooth with your settings. :/
Got easly 1mb/s up and a pretty decent computer (6 core, 4gb ram etc) but everytime i try a resolution above 800x600 my bitrate goes up to like 1000/1100 even though its set to 800 for video and 96k stereo. Quality setting on standard(which is 5 or 6 i guess?).
Just wondering why 500kbps are fine with such a high resolution?

have you tried lowering your starcraft settings, many dont add that into when they start streaming

I've got a slight lag/shutter/flicker/stop in my stream... I've got a 5Mb/s UL. I Currently have my Bitrate at 2000 & my buffer at 2000. Quality at 6... I've got a Phenom II X4 955, and a 5770 Raedon... I am streaming from my 1680x1050 to a 1280x720 and have it set to 30 FPS. I feel like I shouldn't be encountering these issues. My setup / Bandwidth is more than enough to cover streaming in 720p or even 1080p. Not sure how to optimize it so I can get this minor flicker out of the way.

The only thing wrong is xpslit will demand more bandwidth than its given to use this is why your stream will flicker, and lag, decrease your quality to 5, and keep your bitrate the same, you should be able to see whether or not it still has the issue, if you want the quality of 6 you should then boost your bitrate to around 2500 to see if that helps.
