I'm currently using a Razer Abyssus and I've been reading up a little bit on mouse accuracy. The problem I'm faced with is that I'm not sure what would optimal for both accuracy and comfortable speed.

Currently my settings are 1000hz, 450dpi, 8.7 on Razer customizer sensitivity, accel off., and 96 Starcraft sensitivity. I notice that on windows my cursor skips pixels so I must be running at 1:2, not that I really mind on windows, but if it's doing it on windows it must be doing in-game as well. What I'm wondering is if I lower all my sensitivity settings and increase the dpi to 1800 or 3600 will it perform better at all? Does anyone know otherwise any settings I should adjust to keep 1:1 without losing a lot of speed? Or is 1:2 just the price for high sensitivity?

Cheers

Mouse speed / DPI depends on how comfortable you are with it. I have a Logitech G15 and I play on 5700 DPI because I'm comfortable with it. You can play with 2000 DPI and that could work for you. If you're unsure of what DPI to play with, try any DPI speed and keep practicing and playing with that exact same DPI speed and you'll get used to it in a week no more.

Sources:
When I got my Logitech G15 I sucked so bad because I was used to my old mouse, now that I'm used to it this mouse is the best I ever had

EDIT: Forget everything I said if you want, didn't read the whole question, not sure if I answered your question or not.

I have the same mouse as you do.

My settings are 1000Hz 1800dpi 10/10 in razer driver. Acceleration off. 61 starcraft sensitivity. And windows is on default sens.

For me it works like a charm. Although I'm trying to get used to 3500 dpi at the moment I think I'll just stay on 1800 because I'm comfortable with it.
So just use what you feel is good.

Get the middle sensivity settings and adjust the dpi in the driver so that you're comfortable with it. Really, that's the most rewarding way.

450 dpi is way too low for a medium to high resolution. turn up your dpi and and then your starcraft sensn down. also windows setting should be set to the middle (6/11).

I use a Razer Deathadder at 3500 DPI, mouse acceleration off (my god is this important), Razer sensitivity at somewhere between 5.5 and , windows sensitivity at 6.

It is always better to use just the DPI of the mouse to setup your sensitivity and not software filters (windows sens, sens in games, driver sens), unless the preset DPI doesn't fit you. Why? Well lets say your mouse has 800 DPI. you move your mouse 1 inch, cursor moves 800 pixels. If you put your sensitivity in the razer drivers to 5.0, thats half, it reduces the input coming from the mouse by 50%, emulating 400 DPI. Now what is better, setting up your mouse to read 400 dpi or 800 dpi and sens on 50%. 400 DPI is better, because driver filters for sensitivity work by reducing the incomming input. Your mouse sends 800 DPI, but the driver ignores every other one, if the sensitivity were on 7.5 (75%) the driver would filter out every third registered dot, this software 'filtering' by drivers, games, windows sens sometimes work differently on different computers, and also can cause the mouse movement to feel strange and sometimes accelerated in a weird way.

Long story short: when tinkering with 'sensitivity' you should modify in this order; 1)Mouse DPI 2)Mouse Drivers 3)sensitivity in game (fps games). Never modify sensitivity in windows, leave it on the default position!!
For your particular situation, try this: Put DPI switch on 1800, and put on the fly sens to 4.5 or 5.0 (this emulates 800-900 DPI), and bring sens in SC2 back to 49% or 51%.I think this will be pretty close to what you get with what you said you are using (450dpi, 8.7 sens, 96% in SC2) with a bit better accuracy, because you will be using just 1 filter (the driver) instead of 2 (driver and starcraft 2).

I heard in a day[9] daily that SC2 glitches sensitivity when its set at increments of 5, losing mouse accuracy, so i put mine at 49% just to be safe. Supposedly theres a thread on TL about it, but i haven't checked it out.

should set it to something between 51&54 for neutral sensitivity.

i use 53% with 2800 dpi with my imperator. if its possible for you to adjust dpi so its comfortable for you do it that way. ofc if you only can adjust in big steps dpi wise and you dont like what you get that way rather take the skips and play at a speed you like.

I have the Razer Abyssus and its running on 1000hz, 450 dpi, windows on 6, sc2 on 70%.

I also feel that its even a little too fast for me.

I am also using the Razer Abyssus. It's running on 3500 dpi and my driver software sensitivity is at about 20 %.
This means I get ~ 700 dpi output?
(3500 / 100 x 20 = 700)

Therefore this should be a better solution than to have a high sensitivity using 450 dpi. Or am I wrong? The mouse seems to react perfectly with these settings, it seems. No acceleration or skipping from what I've seen so far. But should I be skeptical about using the software sensitivity at such a low setting?

Btw. I actually play fps', not SC2. (Ingame sensitivity 1.65)

Best is to set all sensitivity to 1:1 (SC2 this is 50% which is stupid, and really 51-54%, which is also stupid), then change the DPI to the closest comfortable level.
Then you're all done.
If the steps in DPI are too big to find a comfortable one (they would have to be pretty big steps), you can then use the mouse software to lower the sensitivity slightly, from the higher of 2 DPI settings which are closet to comfortable)

There is no reason to be running at low software sensitivity. Although I don't think there's any significant problems with having it on low sensitivity as opposed to low DPI, but it makes much less sense.

You should definitely have a higher DPI set, and 51-54% SC2 sensitivity. You should also realize that SC2 sensitivity overrides windows sensitivity while in-game in case you did not know.
DPI depends on one's resolution, but even at the lowest settings SC2 will run at (1024x768 I think), 450DPI seems too low. Maybe you have acceleration on? With acceleration on it can be more difficult to notice a lack of sensitivity in a mouse - it's quite handy for people running mice that don't have high enough DPI but need the extra sensitivity.

Just like AT_Tack, I'd highly recommend increasing the DPI, and then adjusting the sensitivity to 1:1 (whatever value that is for customizer, 5?). If the DPI steps are too big, then take the bigger DPI, and then lower the sensitivity a bit below 1:1.

I just got my abyssus and i'm trying to figure out what Hertz (HZ) means here.
250 or 1000 sounds like a big difference, and i cant figure out what that does, this is like the 5th thread i'm browsing trough and i also tried wikipedia and razer i just cant seem to find an explanation, i'm sure it's simple, so can someone tell me?

Its the polling rate. Since USB keyboards and mice can't use interrupts for capturing input, they have to be polled. At 1000hz they are polled 1000 times a second for supposedly more "accurate" input.

Its probably not a notable difference after 200hz or so
