I just got this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823201040. and I have to say it's amazing. Bit odd to type on but feels amazing and I'm sure I'll get used to it soon. Cherry MX Blues are fucking loud. But it feels like a dream to type on. Feels like I'm back in the day when rubber domes didn't even exist yet. I read somewhere that these are manufactured by the same company that manufactures filco, but don't take that as truth until you do some more research. Anyone hesitating on a filco because of price though, this keyboard is fucking solid (weighs like 3 pounds) and is only 85$ on newegg (plus I got a free headset with mine.. kinda nifty).
My filco isn't actually that loud. Its not as loud as everyone makes it out to be. But it'll take some time to get used to for sure though. I'm still bottoming out soo many of my keystrokes.

i have the filco but with mx black switches, really really nice.

I'm current using a G15 keyboard that I got as a gift, which is $75...
My max APM ive seen in a replay is 180 avg, but im a programer (notice, not progamer) and im typing all the day long, also I play shooters and I apreciate a good keyboard, thats why I bought a Filco mx brown.
BTW I had another mechanical keyboard before the filco, but broke after 17 years

I am going to buy a Filco Keyboard with brown switches. My question is, is The Keyboard Company a good website or should I wait for elitekeyboards to get a new stock in? Or is there any other retailer that carries filco keyboards?

Unfortunately not. elitekeyboards.com and The Keyboard Company are the two major distributors (read: popular, yet small business overall) for the US and UK respectively. TKC is reputable, so don't feel bad buying from them. But I noticed you were in the United States, so be prepared to pay more for shipping if you order from TKC (although I can't remember if they'll ship to the US).
In any event, I would email elitekeyboards.com first and check to see when they'll get their next shipment of browns in. I know when I talked to them last week, they said that they were busy fulfilling back-orders on browns, and now they're out. So I would expect another shipment to be in the works.

I bought a filco with cherry blacks and I love it. I type a lot and don't really have a problem at all.
The first one came with a chattering key though (somtimes didn't register, sometimes double register, etc), had to send it back, but elitekeyboards just shipped me a new one and I had it within a couple days, then just returned the old one for free.

Thank you very much for the info.

I'd suggest waiting for Elitekeyboards if you are in the continental US. I got a shipping quote from Keyboardco, and it was about 200 for the Majestouch 104 key after the exchange rate was applied.

If I had a keyboard that died after 17 years I would actually be sad. I am sorry for your loss.

Anybody have an idea when elite keyboards will get the next shipment of chery brown keyboards? I emailed customer support but no response no far.
|
I just got my brown tenkeyless. Super board to use and easy and a pleasure to type on. I plan on 10-15 years of use with it (no spills I hope).
Unconditional recommend if you can afford the board.
If someone plants the seed in some big fps forums, EKB will be pushing black switch boards out the door like crazy as well.
|
Does elitekeyboards actually mail you back? I've emailed them twice already and no response. =(
|
I actually e-mailed them mid-last week to see when they'd be shipping out my order, I got no response, and I just received the notification this Monday.
I would probably try to see if the Geekhack forums would be more informative. I think a owner or at least a representative of EKB watches those boards.
|
Hmm whenever I've emailed EKB with a question I've always got an answer within 24 hours. Have you checked your spam/junk folders etc?
|
When my order was still pending with EKB I gave them a phone call and got a pickup immediately. Try that?
|
Might actually buy one of those, I'm a professional programmer and spend all day in front of the computer so it would definitely be a worthwhile investment and the reviews make it sound amazing.

Try calling them up instead. 1 minute on the phone was all it took to change my wasd keys from red to lavender.
(In general, email correspondence with support people is always so spotty. It is the only time I prefer talking on the phone instead.)

Ordered Filco Majestouch Tactile Touch (MX Browns). Would not hesitate to buy another, great keyboard. Dream to type on.
