Anyone who uses cherry mx blue switches with SC2, do you guys have issues with the "double tap" release point problem?
Thanks

Nope. It is midterm season and I haven't played too many games, but the few games that I played to try out my keyboard, I haven't had any problems with double tapping. Maybe I don't spam fast enough?

I think the double tap issue of the blue switches was greatly exaggerated in order to sell more Black Switches (from a company stand point). Most people on other forums don't like black switches for gaming other than FPS's, but say Blues and Browns are perfect for gaming (Browns a little ahead).
Also Filco Brown Tenkeyless has a backorder until Nov. 10th now, luckily I got my order in last week .

Why would you say browns are better?

From my analysis, since my brown is coming in the mail I would say it is the "middle" ground between Black Switches and Blue switches. Though it has a lower actuation point (45g I think) vs 50g for blue, with a low tactile bump. It feels almost linear compared to the blues and still feels linear to people who went from a black switch to the brown switch.
It is all just speculation from research I have done from OCN and Geekhack. When it comes down to it, do you want a clicky tactile bump from Blue switches, low actuation barely any tactile bump from browns, or high actuation linear from black switches? I don't think picking any switch will cause you to play any worse (except maybe Black switches if you get fatigued by them and just can't get used to them).

It really gets into how many angels can dance on the head of a pin territory.
If you don't care about the sound of the keys, the choice between blues and browns (and clears for that matter) makes no practical difference. Neither is objectively "better", and other than the sound, the difference between the two is very small.
Yes, browns are slightly lighter. So if you rest your hand on the keys in a heavy way, you could be slightly more likely to make accidental key-presses (until you adapt after a short period of use). And yes, because of the hysteresis in blue switches, if you double tap the keys in a very, very particular way, you might get annoyed (until you adapt after a short period of use). But in either case, you'll adapt quickly. You'll have to adapt to the feel and layout of any new keyboard regardless.
If you like the click get blues. If you don't like the click, get browns. If you are unsure about the click, browns are probably the "safe" choice. If you honestly don't care about the click, get whichever is in stock, on sale, or has whichever other features you want.
For the record, between those two choices, the keyboard fetishists at geekhack.org are exactly evenly split:
+ Show Spoiler +ALPS - Black (tactile) 2 1.20% ALPS - White (tactile + clicky) 7 4.22% Buckling Spring - (IBM M, F, Lexmark, Unicomp) 39 23.49% Cherry MX - Black (linear) 8 4.82% Cherry MX - Blue (tactile + clicky) 38 22.89% Cherry MX - Brown (tactile) 38 22.89% Cherry MX - Other (Cherry Clears, Cherry Reds) 6 3.61% Rubber Dome and Variants - Scissor, Cherry ML/MY, etc. 2 1.20% Topre Capacative (HHKB and RealForce) 23 13.86% Other (please specify in a post) 3 1.81%

i am angry. seriously considering the black widow because of this.

Doubtful. The Korean progamers that use FILCOs use standard. That's not conclusive however I haven't heard anything about a FILCO Korean layout either.

Limited edition, bro. Once they're gone, they're gone.

They said that their next shipment in early 2011 will have more Otakus.

I'm currently alternating between my Rosewill RK-9000 with MX Blues and Filco Tactile Touch NKRO Otaku with MX Browns... love them both.

I wouldn't guess Otakus are limited edition... pretty sure the white and pink models qualify more.

The "Otaku" or "enthusiast" Special Limited Edition Majestouch keyboard features Cherry MX tactile touch aka "Brown Cherry" metal plate mounted switches.
I mean, it doesn't even come in a fully printed color box like other models- just a brown cardboard box with a label indicating the model #. At least this was the case when I my Otaku in May this year.

I'm curious as to why people purchase such expensive keyboards for Is it mainly for the N-key rollover? Is there a certain APM where the keyboard will not just handle the input as fast?
I'm current using a G15 keyboard that I got as a gift, which is $75...
|
No, every crappy keyboard works with Nada's 400 APM. N-key rollover is only needed in shooters, when you use two movement keys, jump, crouch in the air and then try to switch to another weapon or something along those lines.
The mechanical keyboards have for every key a seperate switch built out of several hard plastic parts that are not deformed when pressing down the key. The only part which changes shape is a metal spring, and a spring can be designed to never permanently get bent out of shape, no matter how old it gets. Every key on the keyboard should feel the same to press, and will never change.
The non-mechanical keyboards use some kind of rubber like plastic domes to get the key to spring back up after pressing it down and feel mushy and wobbly compared to the Cherry switches. The Cherry switches never jam even when pressing the keys at their corners or when hitting them at an angle. This is also true for the large keys like Enter, Shift, Backspace and the Space Bar.
The expensive mechanical keyboards are neat for typists and office workers and programmers that have to type all day long, or for special purpose keyboards that already are expensive and have to be reliable for more years than the cheap rubber dome keyboards. Cherry has in their catalog for example keyboards with a built in card reader or trackpad or a grid of programmable extra keys. I guess the G15 also counts as "special purpose" and Logitech should have slapped on some more $ on the price tag and made it a mechanical keyboard.
The N-key rollover versions are just something to pitch the keyboards to gamers. (I think N-key rollover is also needed to type the script for the blind?)

Hey guys this seems like an awesome thread. I just got this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823201040. and I have to say it's amazing. Bit odd to type on but feels amazing and I'm sure I'll get used to it soon. Cherry MX Blues are fucking loud. But it feels like a dream to type on. Feels like I'm back in the day when rubber domes didn't even exist yet.
I read somewhere that these are manufactured by the same company that manufactures filco, but don't take that as truth until you do some more research. Anyone hesitating on a filco because of price though, this keyboard is fucking solid (weighs like 3 pounds) and is only 85$ on newegg (plus I got a free headset with mine.. kinda nifty).
