What is your budget?
looking to spend $ 800.00 not including keyboard mouse or monitor i have those interested in the i5 sandy bridge 2500k cpu
What is your resolution?
my monitor is a 1920x 1080 but will eventually upgrading to dual screens What are you using it for?
Gaming mostly sc2 some streaming down the line and maybe youtube and or casting
What is your upgrade cycle?
probaly 1-2 years may upgrade to bigger stuff in a year epending on how i like this rig
When do you plan on building it?
looking to build in the next 2 months when my taxes come in
Do you plan on overclocking?
overclocking is a plus never done it before but def interested in being able to
Do you need an Operating System?
i will need and os
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
i will eventualy go with a 2nd gpu with sli was thinking of going with the nvidia gtx 560 ti
Where are you buying your parts from?
all online new egg tiger direct or manufacture websites also going to micro center in 2 weeks so looking for info rather quickly
Ask when you're building in 2 months because pricing isn't static and new products will be released by than.
SLI with a $800 budget is not possible when you need an operating system.

The heck? Dont we recommend Corsair CX430W every time we cant recommend CAPSTONE 450W because of budget or location. (its $25 after rebate now).
AAyeR can amend the build by buying a random one for like a couple dollars or getting one from a friend. Or shit maybe I can send him one lol.
I could probably build my own power supply with all the extras I have, or melt them down into ingots and sell them.

Can I ask a question can any tell me about a good 19" monitor available in the UK preferably on amazon.co.uk or scan.co.uk

Twice the write speed of crucial m4, thats not bad at all.
|
Twice? Are you comparing 128GB to 64GB versions?
Regardless, Marvell controller + Toshiba flash (32nm toggle NAND as in top-end SandForce drives, or something else? that would explain difference in specs with 128GB Crucial M4) at 128GB for $155 is indeed great.

Looks like I was, which was a mistake. Shell shockers are great deals.

M3 uses 24nm toggle unlike the M2P which is 32nm toggle.

So my Dad has an emergency request for me to build him a comp ASAP since he needs to start doing taxes for himself and some friends..by ASAP, I mean he wants me to buy the parts tonight or tomorrow. I have a couple of parts that I was going to save for my own build, but I'm ceasing purchases til the new Radeons and Ivy Bridge are all out. So here are parts I do have and will use for his comp:
OCZ ModXStream 500w G.Skill 8GB Windows 7
The extent of his gaming will go as far as Chess so the integrated graphics will do him fine He definitely wants a 1TB hard drive, but if you guys could find the best deal on that, a solid cheap case, a processor to fit his needs, and a disc drive that'd be greatly appreciated. I was thinking a G850, a cheap Liteon or Samsung disc drive, a Seagate 1TB and unsure about the case. If you happen to know any bundled deals, that would be great...Thanks in advance.
Edit: OH and of course a motherboard lol...I'm thinking an H61/67?

You want to trade a $2 Molex to PCI-e (which is all you need)
http://www.amazon.com/HDE-PCI-Express-Pin-Molex/dp/B0041P73LE
for a $45 ($25 after rebate) power supply? Ignore the fact that after the trade you wouldnt have a power supply to use the adapter on at all!
Is this my birthday? This is like straight out of "Gift of the Magi."
Except I get everything I want.

the local pc guy wants to sell me that piece for 10 bucks, what a rip off!

well i need 3 things, so maybe i should just place another order with newegg.com 1. PCIe to molex adapter 2. starcraft 2 3. usb wi-fi receiver
medrea, i was going to send you a piece of crap shrink-wrapped for your great reccomendation
|
Thanks skyR....can always rely on you for fast, reliable responses. The release of the new Radeon's aren't going to drop the prices for the 6850's and 6870's are they? Also, the Ivy Bridge release will decrease the Sandy's by 10-15%? I'm just getting anxious on making my new rig and really don't know if waiting will be worthwhile. Let me know.

It was a great recommendation. We recommend it all the time when budget or location doesnt allow for CAPSTONE or a major deal isn't found (its about the cheapest recommendable PSU, there are better ones but they cost more money).
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?InvtId=PCIXPRESPWRCAB&utm_source=GoogleProducts&utm_medium=ShoppingSites&utm_campaign=PCIXPRESPWRCAB
$4 with Free shipping. I think Newegg will want to charge you more unless you buy in bulk or something.
This is XFX's fault for cutting corners. I am fucking buried in adapters. Every single card I ever bought came with at least one MOLEX PCI-e adapter, sometimes two.
Also if the PSU is squealing really loudly, its probably defective. Coil whine isnt supposed to be a problem at all unless its put under a load. And since you havent even connected your card to it yet, thats not a load at all!

There's a coupon code for $8 off, EMCNJHD22, it's actually $17 after rebate^^.

You know its a good deal when you are price competitive with Logisys. Although a Logisys 480W is $13 LOL.

Dont buy a Logisys by the way. Ever. For anything. Not even to charge your iPod shuffle. 16A on the 12v, you know its gud bro.

It depends what you mean by "load" but that's entirely possible to happen and be normal. Coil whine shouldn't have anything to do with the electrical performance so it's fine except for user annoyance.
Since it happens when the computer isn't turned on, then that sounds like something to do with the +5VSB (+5V standby) power, which is still active (edit: though I missed reading the context of this discussion, so maybe not. What state is it in?). Of course to get +5VSB from AC input, you still current to pass through a coil or two, even if most of the electronics need not be operating.
The S12II options like Neo Eco, High Current Gamer, XFX Core were still always preferred over CX430 V2; at equivalent prices I'd also take Earthwatts over CX V2 too.
|
Yeah I should restate. Coil whine is a common, and natural, phenomenon. But whenever I have heard of people having an issue with it, its usually when playing a game, or any other time where there is a lot of draw, or at least more of it. From the sounds of it he is having a lot of whizzing right when he powers it up.
I think an Earthwatts 380D was more, and we were trying to squeeze out every dollar (not price equivalent to the others, i think it was $35 at the time?). Either way Ive seen us recommend a CX 430W fairly often so, what happened? When do i stop following the crowd?
