I'm thinking of buying a PC for work with applications like Photoshop and CorelDraw. Nothing too fancy, 2D graphics exlusively. What components are most important to this end? Thanks.

Depending on how much batch-processing you'll do, you may want to invest in a fast harddisk. Though if you spend long times on a single image and don't save/load that often, disk-speeds are not so relevant. Finally, if you don't have one already, you need to get a good IPS monitor. The cheapest batch of monitors have TN-panels which are poor for viewing angles and colour accuracy. A good, but affordable option is the Dell UltraSharp series. If you're really serious about things, you'll want a monitor calibration device such as the Spyder 3 as well, to ensure that your monitor is showing the colours the way they're supposed to look.

The main thing calibration can help you do is to get rid of some of the niggles you find in monitors like black crush (not so common with the death of VA monitors) and oversaturation of colours (business IPS is pretty good about not doing this) but Dell Ultrasharps are generally pre-calibrated well enough that you don't really need a Spyder 3 or HueyPro. I don't think the Spyder 3 can do anything to get rid of that blue tinting that plagues most of these edge lit LED models anyway. If you're serious about print media, you'd probably be getting a wide gamut monitor and these cheap calibrators (HueyPro and Spyder 3) shit their pants when dealing with wide gamut stuff. Its a bit of a slippery slope where the costs just keep adding up and most of the time its not worth it unless you earn big bux with it.
