Ok, so I'm going to go with the

i5 2500
Gtx 560
4gb RAM
Earthwatts 450 psu

I'm looking for a decent motherboard (no micro atx), hdd, and monitor. May try and get a 64gb ssd as well

For this case

Hi! So I'm looking for a computer build for mostly gaming. Something that can play the new games at max settings. After looking for a while I came up with this build.

I am quite a noob with this (first timer) so please help me out!
Budget: 1000€
I will be buying everything from a store near my house so I'll list the prices. Everything is pretty much newegg like price, so keep that in consideration.

Motherboard: Asus P8H67-M EVO - 115€

GPU: EVGA GTX 570 1280MB GDDR5 - 299€ (having some doubts here)

CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K - 184€

RAM: Gskill DDR3 PC10666 Ripjaws 4GB 39€ x2

Storage:Samsung 1TB SATA II - 55€

Case: Thermaltake Dokker - 69€

Optical Drive: ASUS CD/DVD-RW - 21€

Power Supply: Corsair GS700 - 85€

What's wrong with mATX? These days there isn't any reason to get ATX because no one uses all of the PCIe slots on their motherboard.

Also, downgrading to Intel Core i5-2400 is a better idea since the i5-2500 is exactly the same CPU only clocked higher. If you buy before the the 5th, you can use a 5% discount coupon.

I'm not going to comment on the case but I'll just mention that Thermaltake anything is generally bad. I can't remember a single thing they make that is actually good or better than vastly better alternatives.

What 500W power supplies does your store offer? Because all you need for a single GPU system is a solid 500W PSU. You seem to be missing a motherboard as well.

You don't need a GTX570, its overkill for just gaming. The best video cards on the market that aren't deep in the high end, high profit margin area are the GTX560 Ti and HD6950.

You might want to max everything but only the GTX580 can really do that with every single game on the market. If you are willing to turn down anti-aliasing and (sometimes) shadow/light quality, you can max any video game with much cheaper GPUs.

PS: Corsair CX500W - 50€ should be good?
GPU: GTX 560 Ti overclocked?
Motherboard: Asus P8H67-M EVO - 115€ no good?

Thanks for quick reply.

Are you going to overclock?
If yes:
- Get a P67 motherboard with the features you need. If you don't need anything specific, get the cheapest Asus, Gigabyte, Asrock, Intel, or MSI motherboard.
- Get a CPU cooler (can you list what you have at your store?)
If no:
- Get a H61/H67 motherboard with the features you need.
- drop down to a i5-2400

The Corsair CX500W will work. How much is the overclocked GTX560 Ti to the cheapest GTX560 Ti?

yeah the GF1x4s have good OC headroom because they run quite cool compared to say the GTX 570. You can OC a 560 ti to stock 570's performance depending on the cooler, and even with a reference cooler you can OC quite well.

No idea what the point of overclocking GPUs are. Yeah, you might hit GTX570 performance in non-memory intensive tasks but the noise, heat, and power consumption is going to be beyond terrible.

The point is that high-midrange cards are enough for a single display on stock levels alone.

Depends on the cooler imo.

I'm just saying he could hit that performance level easily if need be and considering all the terrible pictures i've seen of gtx 570s with burnt VRMs it's really less than commendable

I just have a preference for atx, unless there is a micro board that is better. I can go with 2400. Thats fine.

I already have the case, so not much I can do there.

If you're getting a recent SSD that has SATA3 and you want to get max performance out of it, you're pretty much forced to get a H67 motherboard since H61 doesn't have native SATA3 and motherboard manufacturers probably won't put a 3rd party chipset to cut costs.

This is a nice H67 ATX motherboard. H67 motherboards are all around $80-$100 and while Intel motherboards are generally a little bit more expensive than the rest, they're generally the gold standard of stable motherboards: Intel H67 motherboard

If your SSD only has SATA2 or not going to bother with one, just get a Asrock or MSI H61 motherboard. Chances are they're mATX which is absolutely the same as a full ATX motherboard these days.

A few places where I think you could shave some money or improve:

GPU: Unless you NEED nvidia, a AMD 6950 is comparable in performance except at large resolutions and can be found for a good bit less money

Power Supply: As posted above you can get away with spending less money and getting a good 500W or a cheaper 600W.

Storage: Samsung actually sold their HD unit to Seagate a while back. I don't know how that affects any return or whatever if it's defective but it's something to consider.

Mobo: If you are planning to overclock (I would assume you are since you're getting the K version of the 2500, you might want to swap that motherboard to a P67 from the H67 you have right now.

I'm really bad at this. Should I overclock?

Can you give some newegg links? My store has almost everything, it's a pretty big chain.

If you're getting a quad-core Sandy Bridge, and just doing mere gaming, there is no need to overclock, yet. So if you're not into overclocking, just get a H61/67 motherboard along with a non-K Sandy Bridge processor.

PNY GTX 560Ti OC2
Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB HDD

A ~500w power supply is adequate for a single card configuration. If you're looking to do SLI than a ~650w unit will do.

OK. I want a modular PSU. Are either of these good or should I just pay the extra and get a Corsair HX650?

The Corsair HX650 is a very small step up from the XFX XXX 650W. Both are built by Seasonic with an ADDA ball bearing fan with decent components all around, based on different variants of the old S12 platform (double forward primary and individually regulated secondary). Performance is very good but not astounding for both.

The Cooler Master is decent but not as good, if you wanted to save more money.

So what modular PSU would you recommend from www.scan.co.uk?

Not the HX650 since the XFX XXX is mostly the same, for much less money. The Silent Pro is an okay Enhance build but nothing too special. If you want to save more money, you can take a slight gamble on the Antec Basiq Plus unit. That one's built by Delta (a good sign, for reliability), but it's known to have parts on the cheaper side, and nobody's done a real review of it. I'd expect performance within spec (all their OEM units can do that, after all) but nothing great, considering the cost. There are a lot of positive newegg reviews, for what little they're worth. I guess that means the DOA rate is not high at least. Silverstone ST50F-P is known not to be very good, but not terrible. I'd skip that. I'm not sure about the others that are cheaper than the HX650.

So XFX XXX or Antec Basiq Plus, probably.

Can't you just zip tie unused cables and tuck it at the bottom of your case? Its what I do in basically every case I've ever owned and looks extremely neat.

Same here. Saves money, and frankly, it cuts out a potential failure point, too. Every connector is a weak link where something could potentially go bad and cause a failure.

I plan on playing at 1920x1080 resolution. How good of a setup is this and is everything worth my money if I do no plan on overclocking much (I may overclock a little but nothing extreme)? Also, will it be able to run ultra graphics on Starcraft II?

Thanks.
