OK need some advice. I need a headset. Here are the required stats.

I need something that covers the ears, no ear plugs styles.

100 bucks is the price range. I can be talked up a little more but try to keep it around 100.

Detachable mic. I do not want one of those cheap pull out of the side of the headphone mics or flip up mics. I need a mic for game chatting but I want it part of the headset but I want something I can take off when I'm just playing by myself.

Basically these BUT I have been told these have an issue with a hum in the left ear also your paying twice what they are worth just for the fancy apm lighting and SC2 logo.

If they didn't have so many random problems (or so I read on reviews) I was considering buying them BUT I can't drop that kinda of money on something that has ANY problems.

I really want a headset with a build in mic cause having a mic I clip on my cloths is another cord I do not want to deal with.

That's all the relevant info I can think off. Opinions? preferences? I WISH i had some fellow gamers locally I could look/test their headset cause I really want to test the feel of them before I buy them but unfortunately I can only read reviews online and order something (damn sticks don't even have a store I can get something in person)

Razer Banshee has good sound quality for its price, but the mic is horrible. I would just buy a $30 mic, they're usually even or better than headset mics, not to mention more sturdy and less fragile. Siberias are pretty good, kind of like the Deathadder of headsets.
I use Beats by Dr. Dre, kind of an overkill but the quality is amazing.

So I'm looking to buy the best headset at the $200-$300 dollar range. Mostly I was looking at the PC350s because they look "cool" (lol), but some ratings are saying they are pretty average. Most of the comments here were about headsets on the lower end, so Im curious, best overall Headset for 300 or less - and a good quality mic is very important to me.

Edit: Something durable would be good too... :s

Edit2: My computer has an 80 dollar sound card, so it's better than built in, but obv not to of the line.

I have the Turtle Beach DPX21's they are sweet but they make a small hissing sound in the background when no sound is being produced. However the 7.1 dolby digital is nice. I would rather get something from steelseries.

Every steelseries headset I have bought (and then returned) have all had problems over time. Both my 3h's and 5h's had one of the speakers cut out after use. After opening one up after returning multiple 5h's the soldering in the headphone had come undone (seems that there was not enough cord in the headphone and it was allowed to be tugged/pulled on I guess). Bought a pair of seinnheisers and have not had any problems for the year I have had them.

The best headsets I can recommend that are in the 200-300 dollar would be:

1. Turtle Beach Ear Force PX5s retail-250 ( Very very good headset)

2. Astro Gaming A40s retail-200 (also a very good headset)

Both are great, you make the choice

So I used to play CS 1.6 at a pretty high level (just not for money, sadly, as I was still in high school), with just some itune buds. I still use those buds today for source and cod. Everyone here is recommending senheisers, audiotechnica, astros, etc., but dude, if you don't have the cash (and shit, i didn't as a kid), headset is the last place to spend. Get a solid mouse that you feel good with and you'll double your k:d ratio or up your sc2 apm by 20 percent.

If you're looking for something for sc2, well, anything is anything. Some pros play no sound or play with music with sc2.

But if you're going to force me to give you some kind of recommendation for budget gaming, i would probably go for logitech open box deals. If you go to websites like slickdeals.net, like monthly they have "open/dented box" coupon codes for logitech where you can get some pretty nice stuff for 40 or under.

You can't true surround sound with a separate piece of equipment, as far as I know. That's why Astros have mixamps on the side. So I wouldn't really be concerned with getting something that has say 7.1 surround in the description and doesn't come with a mixamp, because that's silly (again, as far as I know. maybe i'm misinformed).

I'm sure others have said it in this thread, but I want to reiterate: "gaming headsets" are a waste of money.

Get a set or REAL headsets, and a separate microphone. Not only will your microphone work clearer, but you will also be able to get better listening out of your headphones for music, movies, etc. "Gaming headsets" are all hype and worthless. Ramped up bass/lows (more like over-the-top), subpar mids/highs, increased prices, etc. traded-off for better looks and a brand-name.

Something like the A700, Audio Technica AD700, Sennheiser HD555, HD595, or Grado SR60i, along with a Zalman clip-on mic is going to dominate any $300+ gaming headsets you use. All for around $100. And you can use it to listen to your music and other general sound stuff. Which your gaming headsets will suck at.

I used to own an army of various "gaming headsets" (pretty much all of Turtle Beach, Logitech, the Fatality, etc.) and that's probably the reason why I had so many. I never was satisfied any of them. They were all so crappy compared to my new $100 HD595, I just gave them away... what a waste of something like $3000 over the course of my lifetime.

Ever since I got an HD595, I haven't had to buy a new pair of headsets for over a year. Which is a long time for me.

Not all gaming headsets are bad buys. Plantronics Gamecom 357 usually runs ~$35 or less, is fairly durable, very comfortable, and has decent audio and a decent microphone. It isn't high end audio stuff, but it's easily a good buy at the price.

Guys, this is a bloody HEADSET thread.. Not a HEADPHONE thread. It's not asking what would be better for the price, but what HEADSET would be good (at least not anymore). So don't give suggestions for a headphone plus microphone.

I can never support Plantronics since two of their headsets broke in exactly the same way, where the microphone support just gave up after one month and it wouldn't stay in the unused position.

That's also the reason I find it difficult to ever suggest someone use fold up microphone mechanisms like on the Banshee. You'll be really annoyed if that mechanism ever craps out and it renders the headset unusable.

Don't game as much now, so I don't have a headset anymore.

@below, yes, for $20-30 I didn't really expect more, haha. Just wish it would have lasted longer. But then I never would have moved on to real headphones. ^^

My Plantronics sets have died through extended wear and tear exacerbated by toddler and pets, after reasonable amounts of time. Given the price point, the year or so they make it is worth it in my book.

I'm looking for a decent headset too, something with good quality headphones and a good mic. I don't really want to be messing around with clipping things onto my shirt. That said if the quality really is that crap for them all (there must be SOME decent ones, surely?) maybe I'll just have to bite the bullet.

Another big thing for me is comfort. I want headphones I can wear without fatigue. My current headphones are nice enough, but after about half an hour my ears hurt and I'm getting a headache because of the strength of the headband. I want something that will rest gently, like the caress of day9 (I imagine).

So, any recs?

The people telling you the quality is crap on gaming headsets are the audiophile types.

That said, most gaming headsets aren't worth the price points they get put at.

If you can find one, try the Plantronics Gamecom 357 I mentioned, the quality is worth the price easily, as a cheaper headset.

Cheers I'll check them out. TBH I'm not an audiophile, so as long as I don't hear crackling and static, and my friends hear my dulcet tones loud and clear I'll be happy.

Any suggestions for a decent earphone? Preferably doesn't shut out surrounding sound (I still need to hear the phone ringing and stuff), but has decent sound quality. Also at a comfortable size or built for comfort.

About the audiophile thing, it is almost impossible to go back once you've experienced something amazing. Say you ate the best steak in the world. How will you ever eat your homemade steaks ever again?

So the obvious solution is to not go there. If you don't feel like you have to, you can be perfectly content with buying your ordinary ~$50 headset. If you're looking to spend more than $200, few people can honestly suggest buying a headset versus a pair of headphones and a microphone.

You're not missing anything if you haven't experienced it. Not everyone needs to or wants to spend that much money on headphones. People still find it ridiculous that I've spent more than $100 for headphones. It's not for everybody. So don't encourage everyone to go there, or look down on people who don't.

Honestly can tell no difference between earphones, because my main use of them is for outside stuff. So they have to compete with background noise, and you'll rarely sit down to listen to them fully for tiny flaws. Build quality is usually the same. Comfort is what you're looking at, and earbuds are even pickier with comfort than headphones. What price are you looking at?
